Finally to get to play the latest Tekken and Guilty Gear brings back memory of the Playstation 2. A shame Tekken 7 doesn't have much content compared other Tekken games, but funny enough it probably has more content than other modern fighting games.
I mean, it has no replay system (Shadowplay saving your highlights doesn't really count), no bot matches, arcade mode is really lacking and the only real offline modes are Player vs. Player, Training and Treasure Mode. Story Mode is also kind of a letdown in general compared to earlier titles (fuck Shin Akuma). In online, Tournament Mode is rarely ever used (but it's a lot of fun when a tournament actually happens). Customization Mode is awesome, however. Meanwhile, Guilty Gear Xrd has a great tutorial mode, combo trials for every character, a mission mode that teaches you practically all the mechanics of the game and even match-up missions to train against certain strategies and attacks some characters employ, an actually-good arcade mode with a storyline for each character, and a story mode for when you get bored of playing the game. I spent ~60 hours alone enjoying the offline content because it's really plentiful and it also helps you getting better at the game as well. Of course it also has a Training Mode, Player vs. CPU and Player vs. Player modes as well but that's obvious. There's also dumb timewasters like Digital Figure mode if you want to pose your main on a stage for your combo video lol. Online-wise, only Player Rooms are used, but considering it doesn't have the same playerbase as Tekken 7, it's easy to see why, although it's still possible to find online games nevertheless. Not to discredit Tekken 7 because I think it's an awesome game and I played Tekken a lot ever since I was a kid, but I think easily any fighting game can surpass it in content very easily.

Seems like just your average polidicks thread
EX layer seems promising, have to wait for next week to try it in our local and see how it fares there. Overall it seems like a neat package, let's hope they sell well enough to add more characters.
Oh I agree, Tekken 7 would really benefit of getting back a lot of modes and features of the old games, never played the PS3 games but I saw how much stuff they had but I guess moving to a new engine means having to add all those things back is going to take a lot of time. Tekken 7 is actually the first time I play a fighting game online since I feel more confident trying characters even if I keep messing up my chains. Speaking of content, how is Street Fighter V? After many years of Capcom messing it up with releases I was thinking of getting the Arcade Edition for single player, I heard it had events with time limited items to collect.
I don't have the game, but the Arcade Edition is just SFV, it's not exactly special, but I heard it does have a lot of content, including six types of Arcade Mode, various single player modes that allow you to unlock goodies like costumes (in fact, everything can be unlocked using in-game currency iirc, including DLC characters) alongside a few other things, so it has a lot of content by itself now compared to its initial release. However, it's (apparently) incredibly grindy if you're set on unlocking everything and one single character can be really expensive, basically encouraging you to pay for the DLCs. I'm sure people who actually play the game can give better input than me though, but if I were you I'd try to do some research and see if it's the kind of game you'd enjoy for its single player content alone. If you're looking for fighting games because of singleplayer content, Skullgirls 2nd Encore and Blazblue CentralFiction has quite a lot of it that you should look into to see if you'd like it as well, with BlazBlue Centralfiction having one huge, VN-like Story Mode with occasional fights and 3 stories (or acts) for each character in Arcade Mode, alongside a few other fun singleplayer modes, combo trials, character-specific tutorials (alongside a normal, comprehensive tutorial, of course), and so on. Skullgirls has a more traditional arcade mode in comparison but the quality of the game is incredible, and 2nd Encore gives more content to enjoy as well like combo trials, challenge mode and survival mode, Arcade Mode being voiced as well and it's just a great game quality-wise, imo, I just cannot understate that. Again, you should definitely do your research before you buy though, BlazBlue is very anime which is a turn-off for some people, and some people find fighters like Skullgirls rather overwhelming at times. Considering that both are pretty cheap because of the sale though, you don't miss much if you don't end up liking them (if you can't refund them, of course) but definitely give them a look alongside the games on sale that have been posted here.
Thanks, for what I have read most costumes and colors can only be bought with real money and some of them with in-game currency, I will think about. Capcom decisions makes hard to support their products. I have Skullgirls and bought most BlazBlue games. Skullgirls is a lot of fun but I couldn't never get into Blazblue, I played them and I see why people like it but I'm so used to the rock style of Guilty Gear that is hard for me to keep interested in the style of Blazblue. Talking about Guilty Gear, I'm one of those that doesn't like that story mode in Xrd is just cutscenes, I liked when XX had multiple ways and different endings, so I'm kind of lost in the story now more since -Revelator- doesn't come with the story mode of -Sign-. Still, I haven't played Guilty Gear 2 so I'm actually missing a lot of the story. What I'm trying to say is anime lore is complicated for the average user.

Out of all the Guilty gears on steam, what's the best place to start for a newbie to the series?
Rev2, buy the Revelator All-in-One pack to get it. The tutorial is really expansive and most of the new characters are intentionally newbie friendly.
That the all in one, or the deluxe all in one? All these fighting game offers make me realise I need a new gate for my stick, been keyboarding up till now.

Cheers, went with the deluxe because I'm a sucker for complete packages.

I'm conflicted between Makoto, Kokonoe, and Bullet.
Makoto, all day. I almost bought a $200 figure in Japan she that good.
I'd find all the platform fighter games a lot more interesting if they didn't have straight up Smash expys down to copied normal animations (ie Zetterburn).
Probably cuz Zetterburn is meant to be the 'ryu' or 'mario' of the game for beginner players. Keeping his neutral game familiar makes it easier to get the ball rolling for veteran smash players. Not that that's an excuse to copy+paste a character 1:1, but I'd say Zetterburn in unique enough as it is. His burn passive, neutral+b, and down+b in the hands of an experienced player look nothing like Wolf. This goes for any of the 'inspired' characters. Clairen, Ranno, Absa, and the rest all have their own unique quirks that separate them just enough to feel unique IMO.
Naoto.
I honestly should play it more. Like I love the series but MAN am I actually ass at it.

Heard a rumor that a new Soul Calibur VI character will be unveiled this Thursday. Hoping it's true.
