S.T.A.L.K.E.R Series Megathread: Maybe someday games releasing edition
999 replies, posted
98b was released as an EXE installer whereas 98a came in a simple archive file (.rar or .zip i forget).
It sketched me out to download and run that shit I never bothered to grab 98b ~
Hey, does anyone happen to have the old Photorealistic zone archives by Argus? And the creatures pack?
Been doing a vanilla-esque SoC playthrough and I remembered how much of an improvement those packs were. If anyone has 'em please share
And thats the way of proper mod developer.
Not some weird saying "Im gonna give it only to one guy" or "we not gonna give you anything we made, because mod is dead"...
If someone doing mod for free in free time, and then something happen and he cant continue working on it what is stopping that person from just give those assets to community so they can continue work on it and use it?
If mod would be released as free mod anyway.... why not to release what you made as... free assets? Whats the difference?
Its not some company policy with contract and license over those assets. No one get money from doing those mods, all this stuff is made by normal players who wanted to give others something for free anyway.
And reasoning that "you want to have control over it"... you will not gonna have control over it.
We talk about community created content, if you like it or not, once its online and available, people gonna use it becase they like it. And any creator should be proud that even not finished content would be used, and others would continue work on it.
I wish you all the best and appreciate what you're saying but I don't know you from anyone else - Alun has proven himself, so I want to give him first opportunity to use it.
You know me from @Theman! , or Lafis, who worked on Wormwood, and is now helping me in my own project.
But, in his words:
4:48 PM - lafis: my opinion on that is that even though i worked on it, it was all for that mod project
4:48 PM - lafis: beacon has control over those assets and i'd never ask him to provide them in a situation where he didn't willing want to
And on top of that, I have no intentions of starting an arguments over these assets - if you don't want to hand them over, I'm not going to sit here and beg - but I will argue that you haven't even put in much of a effort into contacting Alundaio about integrating them into CoC. Chances are, Alundaio will not see the post you made on here, so I once again strongly urge you to head over to his forums and contact him through the chatroom, located in the bottom left corner:
http://forum.epicstalker.com/viewforum.php?f=32
This is the best way to contact him, as he consistently replies to anything I say and you have a much better chance of him reading your message through here.
Hey Wepl! I like the direction you are taking your mod, and I look forward to hearing more. It's unfortunate that Beacon is not willing to share his assets with you. Nevertheless, the progress you've made is quite intriguing, and "proving yourself" should be of no concern to you, my friend, as you have already Well demonstrated your worth.
I look forward to seeing more and more as you progress.
Sincerely,
the guy who still visits the GSC forums to chill with Tejas in the Backwater bar. (I wonder if Siro or Don Reba are still out there)
Thanks for the kind words, you're more than welcome to add me on steam:
https://steamcommunity.com/id/wepl
As it is the best way to contact me, if you wanted to talk about anything. I'm also looking for playtesters and people who are willing to give feedback, so do add me if you're interested.
"proven him self"? What the hell does it mean, and what it have to do with community modding?
This not some faction war where modders are companies that fight with each other over players...
In modding you prove your self all the time by doing stuff, no matter if its small or big thing. If we fallow this reasoning someone who spend few years helping others doing small works in 500 mods is not "worth" your time, but person who did just one or two bigger things is?
Yes, those are your assets and work, you have all rights in the world to do what you want, but its just fricking dump move to behave like little kid who have his old toy, but he give it only to other kid who is more known than others...
Just in this forum @wepl post more useful info and helped others more than most of other modders who brag about all the time what they did.
He showed us just here more updates of his work than most of other stalker mods in ModDB for WHOLE YEAR.
Dont treat Alundaio as some sort of stalker modding ultimate-sensei.
There are many others modders who deserve more support and help than him, and wepl is one of them: He didnt burn out, he have knowledge, he inform about his work often and he actually take in to the account opinions of others, not act like concrete wall of "I know better, shut up".
Such approach is just stupid, we talk here about community mods for players. You did those assets for sale or because you wanted give others something cool for free so they can have fun and mention you as creator?
As I said its your work, do what you like, but this is just insane... You would rather give it to someone who will dump it anyway or just publish it for everyone so there is bigger chance that your work will be used in lots and lots of other mods that get better because of your assets?
And as I said once you give it to someone and he publish it, you can forget about "controlling it", there is no such thing in modding community.
Have some more progress! But with a catch, it's not yet completed (still need to do more detailing), but I wanted thoughts on the layout and the general idea of what I was going for. Any criticism/comments/questions are very welcome.
Also, the reason the transparency is black is because this is a draft version, which takes 5 minutes, versus a full version, which takes 3 hours. In the final compile, the platforms will look like how they did in my screenshots a few posts ago (aka much better).
I'm not too attached to this idea, as it was mostly me messing around, so feel free to give your honest opinion on it, even if you don't like it.

Just my two cents before i lurk again, we've gotten into this rut of small projects and viewing big, ambitious mods as something that'll never be released. Instead of hoarding away what you have, why not put that and whatever help you can provide towards a good big project? Maybe if y'all got together and formed a small team, you could change the face of Stalker modding a la CoC, no?
This is exactly what I'm trying to advocate through my project - whether it gets finished or not (but, for the record, I REALLY do plan on finishing this).
While the team only consists of me and @Theman! currently, I am probably annoying people by constantly asking around for playtesters and other developers, but so far few have come forth. Regardless, I've stated many times that should this mod die that all assets will be publicly released, but on top of that, should (and hopefully) the mod be finished - and then released - all assets will be meticulously documented by me with the rights for anyone to use them, on top of the fact that I plan on doing video tutorials on various Stalker modding topics to help nurture the Western modding scene. Sadly, not everyone shares this ideology and would prefer to hoard assets for various reasons.
This is how I hope to change the face of Stalker modding, through documentation and a (hopefully) solid mod
that reminds me, my hd pack thing is just about dead, and i was thinking about just releasing all the stinky assets for the world to behold, i just need to organize them a bit more before doing so, cos as is its an arcane mess of folders and files that even i dont fully understand
Glad to see so much positivity in here. I should upload all my work as well for anyone to use. I'm sure a plethora of HUD styles and improved UI stuff will suit the needs of few

I would love to help with anything like GUI, models and UV texturing, basic work with scripts/configs but sadly Im one of that person who do 500 smaller works for others, I have 2 of my private projects not related to Stalker, and just like most of us, real life work and its just impossible to do anything that actually need focusing on specific project and consult/discuss work in regular way...
Only real reason why I still doing Stalker Two-K is because I use those textures in my other projects, if not that I would sadly dump it long time ago...
Im helping few people from stalker community with some smaller work, but its mostly 2-3 things.
Im still happy to help anyone with anything related to graphic/design/textures, but because of that damn lack of time I seriously can do only smaller things
Quick questions :
I was browsing though COC's meshes folder and found a mesh called "stalker_ecolog_tookarev.ogf"
So, is this model used somewhere in any of the games?
If it does, why the fuck would anyone do that?

He look like Lt. Sokolov from Call of Pripyat after 5 years of constant drinking vodka...

So i'm trying out Dead air. Really loving the graphical updates- Fantastic touch.
However, beds do not have the usual 'sleep zone' popup that lets you sleep. Is my game bugging or is there something i'm missing?
They were disabled intentionally, you're supposed to carry a bedsheet/sleeping bag around at all times.
Ah, i suspected that, but that sleazebag sidorovich doesn't sell them.
Thanks though.
Mostly experimenting for the moment, but here's Doctor with a body model from Ninja's Pack

Working with ogf isn't as bad as I remember, and blender's plugin is really solid, even though i have to use the actor editor to use multiple textures in one model
Buy or craft a bedroll and/or sleeping bag. It's one of those essentials you'll need but might not start with. A bedroll alone is much lighter but can only be used near campfires.
I'm currently playing Stalker Anomaly. Pretty fun so far but does anyone know how to make the Steam overlay work with it?
I put it on Steam and the overlay pops up in the corner but I can't do anything with it.
Try running steam as administrator. It helped me with some games not letting me use overlay so I just always run steam as administrator.
So I made new texture, and I seriously cant remember name for it...
Its coach? carriage? trailer?
https://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/34/33982/vagon_green_preview_01.jpg
Texture name is vagon but how you translate it to English? I saw those things few time on trucks back in 90, and we call it just "transporter" but if its on the ground how do you call it?
I need a bit of help, since I know nothing about the ltx / xml modding part of the game
I want to get the full list of the actors models actually used in the game, but I have no idea where to look.
I'd also like to add the unused variants to the game, but that's for later.
I noticed that, when using the HD pack, I never saw any old vanilla models in game (I mean, besides the Exoskeletons, Seva and Skat-9), while there was only 1/4 of the actual models actually done in some faction, so I figured that the game doesn't use all the variants , even in a vanilla game.
Here's an example for "Stalker_dolg_2":
Stalker_dolg_2.ogfb [HDPACK] Used in-game
Stalker_dolg_2_face_1.ogf [Mine] Never seen in-game
Stalker_dolg_2_face_2.ogf [Mine] Never seen in-game
stalker_dolg_2_mas2.ogf [HDPACK] Used in-game
stalker_dolg_2_mas4.ogf [HDPACK] Used in-game
stalker_dolg_2_old.ogf [HDPACK] Used in-game
So, do COC actually use theses models?
Stalker usually work in a strange way, but modding it is like trying to understand how the zone work
About to fire up Anomaly as well and give it a go. It's been a while since I've played STALKER! I definitely miss the old days.
Radiophobia2 is a hell of a lot of fun, i adore the changes to the gunplay and it's nice to play a structured Stalker game after so much CoC, but man if i don't have more crashes with it than any other mod recently, even after installing their patch specifically for steam crashes.
Okay more Dead Air questions:
I can't seem to butcher animals, the 'ok' button doesn't do anything. Is my game bugged or is it because the homemade knife can't butcher things?
Also is there any recommendations for where to place a stash? Seems no matter what i do, some god damn chancer saunters straight up to it and loots it. I suppose spots around camps are out of the question then?
