I was planning on doing some kind of a stalker re-modelling project. Got inspired by your use of the gorka suit as a basis for stalker suits. So I was thinking of modelling some kind of re-imagined ghorka-inspired jump-suit. Then doing faction variants by changing vests, boots, gloves, heads and colour-themes.
yeee man u should 100% go for that, better to have assets come from one consistent source instead of being a bunch of jank ass sources
Would really appreciate getting help from someone experienced with porting and rigging stuff to X-ray, since it sounds like a whole can of trial and error worms I just don't have the time for.
As for models, I started tweaking a bit some existing models. Mostly some changes in look and new HD textures. Here for example blind zombie made to be spawn only underground: https://media.moddb.com/images/members/5/4060/4059935/zombie_blind.jpg
Dude that looks fuckin' sick
Is that a modified version of the feral ghoul model from FO3/NV?
Yep, it just fit perfectly to underground level, I just removed those silly eyes, add some weight to him, buffed his neck and do facelift. New HD texture was just a matter of 1-2 hour of work. Im also working on new sound for him and config files. Idea is to spawn him only in dark underground areas. He will have limited vision, but perfect hearing, he will be faster than normal zombies and more HP. It would be substitute for Bloodsucker is some areas where he dont fit.
For me, stalker was always a bizarre game, modeling wise Like, the character models are dogshit, but the mutants are mostly well modeled The artstyle is really consistant, except for the peopme roaming the environment It might have to do with the fact that most character models date back to 2004, but seeing clearsky's models next to the sunrise suit really show how badly it aged
Let's be real, Russians themselves are basically cryptids so it stands to reason that hey'd be better at making monster shapes than people shapes.
Heh, more than just the character models date back to 2004 (a good chunk are even older than that) Honestly a good chunk of the game's assets seem to be from around 2002-2004, including animations. It's ridiculous how old some of the shit in STALKER really is
If anyone played Codename: Outbreak they will see from where most of Stalker assets came from... :]
TOO SPoOKY
So after getting so fed up with how fucking annoying Call of Misery was, i decided to try regular Misery on Call of Pripyat, since i never ended up trying the new 2.2 features and.... well.... I don't quite remember the mod looking and feeling so bad. Like sure, the difficulty curve was far more acceptable to me on normal Misery, but everything else is just garbage tier. There's no polish anywhere to be found. Weapon animations, models, and textures are just disgustingly bad, not to mention an issue i'm having with a number of(exclusively) NATO weapons where the arm models are sticking so far out that i can see through the untextured bits. The AI has become significantly stupider too. They do the normal pacing and strafing that is already predictable, but if they're shooting at you and you duck back into cover, the SECOND you do that, the AI will, without fail, pull out a grenade and throw it at you. And, being Misery, this often occurs over distances of about 50 meters, naturally. But its so predictable and boring, every firefight feels identical. This is all not counting the massive performance issues I'm getting that i don't ordinarily get. The game looks worse than the base game does, because of the classic Misery grey and brown textured everything, but for some reason while i can run the base game and CoC in DX11 full dynamic lighting, i get 3-6 second long freezes every couple of seconds in Misery when i have it set to anything other than static lighting, it's absolutely unacceptable performance. In addition, I'm getting system breaking crashes in Misery that lock up my entire computer and force me to restart just to be able to use it again. Misery 2.2 does NOT receive a Raz Seal of Approval. I highly recommend nobody plays this mod. While you do get a massive amount of features that is hard to get elsewhere, i find it hard to justify less fun and engaging gameplay so that i can have 10 layers of inventory management.

I use to be enamored by Misery but you are most definately right. After I spent an hour trying to clear out a Merc camp I came to my realization. I got even angrier when one of the helicopters had 5 blood suckers, a controller, and some phantasm roaming around it. It wasn't until late game I could actually reach the downed bird because I had to purchase a crazily expensive helmet for psy protection.
Half time the hostile AI bugs out and doesn't attack you immediately anyway. I came across a group of bandits sitting around a fire and they didn't even attack me until i pretty much stood in the center of them dancing in the fire and from then on when reloading they were immediately hostile with bullshit aim.
Resident modding genies I've always thought the shooting mechanics in S.T.A.L.K.E.R were always a bit lacking Are there any mods that go beyond rebalancing weapon stats and damage? Could you even make mods that go beyond that?
pretty much all the mods that do that and look good are NEVEREVER
There was SHOKER which did a lot of cool gunplay stuff, but it's pretty old by this point https://www.moddb.com/mods/shoker-weapon-mod CoC 1.5 (whenever that comes out) is adding some new gunplay features mostly related to recoil and etc, as well as a total economy and gunplay rebalance Call of Misery derived mods like Anomaly and Dead Air introduce a ton of weapon maintenance mechanics to the game, for better or for worse
Say Hello Hello to my little comrade
Yeah now that you mention it, that is another glaring issue with Misery. A shitload of the game's features and quests are locked off until you have late game equipment. Artifact hunting is a total no-go until you have a fully upgraded SEVA/Scientist suit just because of the insane AOE damage that almost all anomalies give. Cardan's quest, Grouse's quest, almost all of the main quests, and so much more are inaccessible until you've got top tier equipment, and it totally throws the progression system out of balance. If you have to have top-tier equipment just to progress in the game in the slightest, you have completely fucked up somewhere. God, i didn't even think about that. Why does Misery legitimately ruin every aspect of the game? How is it that a mod that makes the game worse in so many ways so popular?
I struggle at times to find a good balance of difficulty and not-fun. I don't look for realism relative to real life but some kind of internal realism. I started playing CoC without any gun mods or suit mods since they typically make the economy extra broken. Are there any good mods that allow for creatures to really tear some ass? I'm finding that even bloodsuckers don't really take down NPCs like I'd expect. e.g. I'm playing bandit and have two follower guys. FOUR bloodsuckers jump us and get solid hits in against my followers but it ends up being a victory for us without either of the followers dying
I've been trying to download ZRP from Metacognix for a while now and for some reason the download links on the site don't work. Are there any mirrors I could use?
I cannot confirm if it is what you want but I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/stalker/comments/8ptgrx/does_anybody_have_a_working_zrp_mirror/?st=jmvb76n7&sh=70dabb22
It appears to be what I was looking for. Many thanks!
Out of curiosity, why do some of these mods not have a dedicated download site, like a ModDB link? I've never really tried playing an "Underground" Stalker mod like Soup.

ok guys. The games lag when I try to save on static lighting, but the lag doesn't occur on enhanced lighting. Any fix for that? I mean, I can play on enhanced lighting, but I would like to unfuck this. I'm on Windows 10 btw
There really isn't any way to fix it other than running in windowed mode (which breaks save screenshots) it's just an artifact of the old renderer and how it takes screenshots for savegames.
they are not underground, they are actually more known than most of "western" mods that we know. Problem is that more than half of Stalker mods are played and maid by russian/slaw modder, and no one care there about moddb or making mods in English. If you dig VK.com pages a bit you can find things that make you pee your pants: amazing maps, models, game mods, story mods... anything. but they all are stuck in slav spacetime anomaly and no one care to use them in "global" stalker world....
