Depends how benefited the gameplay.
Honestly I'd say at most wait for it to go on sale.

It's really handy that a seamless robe I can't even use is just the right price to annihilate the Abbasid empire by way of China

how much of that is modded and not vanilla
It's probably about half and half. 90% of my hours are in competitive multiplayer games, where using a re-balance mod became the standard after the waking the tiger expansion. Before 1.5 we did vanilla.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the pan key in Vic 2? My MMB doesn't work so it's bit of a pain having to drag my mouse to the edge of the screen.
Iceland has the best tree for just playing idly in the background.
Not sure if I like where they're going with this, I much preferred the randomness of the earlier patches when Barbarossa could go either way. Now it's guarenteed that the Soviets will lose if the Allies don't jump in on a second European front, that sounds boring as all fuck.
If for a first time, no, not really. EUIV is more newbie friendly and has a ton of more quality-of-life improvements that make it hard for old time players to go back. It should go pretty cheap on sale, so if you want to try it by all means; I have fond memories of EUIII with mods but just know that it may be more difficult to get into.
I'm of the opinion that Germany is too strong in all HoI games, by '39 the French should still be able to go tit-for-tat with them but it's never the case, historically the French had the best continental army but their leadership was a right mess. Anyways, I've never seen a successful French counteroffensive in 3 or 4 that doesn't involve some gamey tactic.
I've realized most of the time hoi4 is based on pop history rather than the actual reality of things. It's why you see so many meme country paths.

Hath hell frozen over?
So this is interesting, if you form the British Federation in HOI4, you get cores on Canada. If you go Imperialist Britain and annex the US, you can make Canada annex the USA, complete with cores. So if you form the Federation after that, you can get all the manpower of the USA. Though by the time that happens you've basically won the game already.
Apparently a dev version of the TNO mod was leaked, again. Sad.
Wait TNO has a fucking Neo-Nazi problem? The reddit page is full of claims that the Alt-Right is having a shitfit about the mod and are trying to harass devs until they quit. When the hell did this start?
Kaiserreich does to, but they tend to hide behind the autocratic leaders/the reichspakt since fascism never formed in Kaiserreich
I honestly think it kinda sucks that the base philosophy is that "germany" is easy mode. I wonder how they landed at that idea when germany literally lost the war IRL, along with having a hell of a time all the way through. I would LOVE a rebalancing where basically SU/US (in that order) are easiest and germany hardest among the major powers.
I don't really think the SU should be the "easiest". LIke, very high potential sure, but being at war while still suffering the after effects of the great purge should be difficult.
Fair enough. I guess the "easiest" part should still go to the US with the only drawback being that they have to enter full mobilisation. But SU should still be easier than germany, esp with the additions they're making like fuel supplies etc.
Well. Germany lost due to a lot of ignorant mistakes on their part. E.G sending half their army to the soviet front just for them to get absolutely decimated leaving them with a pretty devastating shortage of equipment and weapons and the most important part, manpower where almost a million soldiers got incapacitated. They had a strong war Industry, extremely good tech and competent military leaders and very competent soldiers, and i'm pretty sure they'd have won pretty swiftly if not for their hubris. That's probably why germany is seen as the easy mode. Playing as the US is just waiting and hoping Germany doesn't take over Europe and fortify the shit out of their coastlines, the brits would have lost straight up against the germans and the Soviets struggled early but won due to sheer attrition and grave mistakes performed by Germany. And waiting isn't fun gameplay wise, so I don't see anything wrong with Germany being the "easy" mode.
