HoI3 isn't so bad. If you have a friend that knows the game that's definitely the best way to learn, but the same can probably be achieved by watching some videos. I played a few games with friends and was able to become functionally proficient. I wouldn't say I was ever an expert, but I could get through a game and was able to win at times.
You gotta get CreamAPI which lets you bypass the check games have to see if you bought the DLC or not (tho I've only got it working with paradox games). Drop the DLC folder into "dlc" in your game directory (folder should be called dlc023_man_the_guns, with the appropriate .zip and .dlc file inside of it) Install CreamAPI into your HOI directory, and open up cream_api.ini. Change "appid" to 394360. Make sure both "orgapi" line up with yours. Under [dlc] copy and paste this list (and follow the format for future dlc/other PDX games). I've only bought like one or two DLCs for EU4 and pirated the rest using this method. Saved me about $500 dollarydoos literally
I cannot find this anywhere

I think Germany would have had a better shot if they didn't make so damn many stupid mistakes, the list is near endless, but one that stands out to me is being welcomed into several countries (such as Ukraine) as liberators, and then tormenting and murdering the population. Maybe if they weren't literal Nazis they could have raised armies in those countries, armed with the massive amounts of capture materiel from the all around Europe, including fully functional weapons and munitions factories. They were never going to win Barbarossa, they severely underestimated the size and determination of the Red Army, but making allies on the frontlines instead of enemies would have been a good idea. They massively squandered available manpower and materiel simply because they were too racist to make any use of it all, they would rather dump resources into mass murdering the people that would have supported them, many of these countries were subjugated by the Soviet Union and would have happily made a deal to fight for Germany in exchange for independence. That said: I love the fact that German intelligence and planning was so bad that by the end of Barbarossa the German Army had destroyed more Red Army divisions than they even knew existed, yet there were still more! Talk about massively underestimating your enemy, jeez. It's a good thing the Nazis were stupid racists in that regard, because their bigotry toward the native slavic population was a big part of their downfall.
There’s no way for Germany to win without changing who they were. You’d have to purge the country from top to bottom, or brain wash them to act out if character.
thanks i love and respect you
Hitler would have had to tolerate Stalin/the entire Slavic ethnicity.
Exactly
I've seen this on the hoi subreddit as well but I also find it kinda off-putting that many of the morally terrible things committed by the Allies are in the game but there's not a peep about the Axis. There's nothing even really alluding to it at all. The worst of it I've experienced in the game are the decisions Nazi Germany have to raid democratic and communist supporters (which is something I think all countries have). It made me feel genuinely bad because I did these decisions by my own choice and midway through I realized the uncomfortable relation between the game mechanic and actual atrocities committed in real life.
Yeah all ideologies can do the raids.
I suppose that's the short way of saying what I was saying. The Nazis could not win because they were Nazis, they murdered most of their potential allies. If they weren't evil racists, they could have won by rallying several of these unwilling Soviet countries against Stalin.
Are we just talking about the Holocaust? Bc if you mean the Holocaust then it's probably because the reenactment of those events from a player's point of view would quite simply be disgusting for regular people and mostly relished by awful people and I imagine that the ESRB and press reaction would probably reflect both.
Even from a gameplay perspective I'm not sure what effects you'd give it that anyone would actually use it outside of being edgy.
Constantly saps your resource for evil points.
Also if you're that interested in performing a holocaust you can adjust the setting on how your treat the inhabitants to harsh and imagine thats whats happening.

Seriously can't wait for Paradox to have the audacity to sell basic features that should have been there at launch as over priced DLC despite the 38% positive reviews
According to the Imperator art book, Johan thinks this is the best game they’ve released yet also the beta branch for 64bit HOI4 is out, 1.7

I don't get Johan's hateboner for "Agents" and "Envoys", like, at all. One thing I distinctly remember is him saying during a IR DD last year was "Characters won't be Envoys, so you can't just send characters you dislike to dangerous places to get them killed." And honestly a statement like that makes it seem like he's lost the plot on what people played Paradox Grand Strategy games for, when he's deliberately stating that he's stripping down parts of the sandbox to get rid of strategies he dislikes.

I'm really interested to see what the Romero/Paradox game is gonna be. Any guesses?
ya, its underrepresented just how fucking far we hauled supplies for the russians. Supplies made in St. Louis for example had to be rail transported to the ports, loaded, then sent in a convoy through the pacific, the indian ocean, up into the persian gulf where they were unloaded in iraq at a port built by the US, transported across iraq, into iran then into the soviet union on roads, rails, and bridges all built by the US. The logistics of supplying the soviet union in ww2 are almost impossible to fathom today let alone with 30s and 40s technology
