call me cynical but the inclusion of "real-money" in that statement just makes me think they're going to have you buy some Halobux in order to purchase loot boxes.
That's still real money.
And I wont be purchasing the next halo game if there is lootboxes. If it comes to PC I will buy it only to molest the game engine for its goodies.
It isn't an if, it's confirmed.
Yes, that's my point.
play anywhere was announced in 2016 and I believe the first title with it was Horizons 3?
That would go against what they're saying then.
I think the implication with "real-money" means that it'll be like Siege where you get halo-bux by playing and you'll have to buy loot boxes with that. They didnt explicitly say "no lootboxes" just "no real-money lootboxes".
At least they have admitted that halo is just a cash cow now, gives some closure to those who were hopefully of a "Classic Halo Experience".
We don't know what the MTX is going to be. I'm going to wait before deciding what to think.

He was the lead multiplayer designer for Halo 5.
I don't understand, what's the issue with Halo 6 being a live service?
That's literally what Halo 5 was. That is literally what every modern multiplayer game is now - Overwatch, Black Ops 4, Battlefield V, Titanfall 2, Rainbow Six: Siege, CS:GO, etc. If you want to provide your players with free* content and not have the game be dead a month after launch, that's what you have to do. The only real issue is with draconian bullshit like lootboxes and a thousand shitty armours in the loot pool.
a small a piece as it is, this one of the only pieces of concept art for Infinite out at the moment

Reach-esque armor? Me like.
hopefully the faces are good. 5 faces felt a little plasticey.
Just because they did it before, doesn't mean they should do it again.
There is a separation between Microsoft management and 343 management whether anyone cares to acknowledge it or not. They get a lot of weird necessities down from corporate that they have to abide by no matter what.
That being said, imo, Halo 5's microtransactions were only annoying at their very worst since they only meaningfully affected Warzone.
Slot machine loot boxes can fuck off though. Forever.
I'm fine if the MTX is strictly cosmetic, weapon skins, armour skins, name plates, etc.
But no actual weapons, things that effect gameplay.
as someone who plays a lot of MP, same, but if they are gonna have cosmetic mtx and they are AAA, they definitely making enough from that, cosmetics sell VERY well, map dlc better be free.
even if that's the case then the cosmetics better at least be somewhat appealing because lord knows around 75% of Guardians' armour was anything but that and for the love of god bring back the individual piece customisation and not this head and body only bullshit
it's almost as if instead of perfecting the design of one set of armour they just threw in everything concept artists could draw

They got a new art guy, so I'd expect new designs.
I wouldn't bet too much on a major influx of new shit, the concept image I posted earlier looks to be a Spartan IV in GEN1 armour. my guess is because of canon tech cortana bullshit reasons. I haven't brushed up on my lore at all but I remember reading about hybrid GEN1 and 2 suits and how some of the individual pieces are interchangable between suit generations so it could just end up being pickings between the best of 343's designs and most (if not all) of reach's stuff
christ how did anyone involved think these designs were acceptable?
the people that wanted filler content to make sure the actual good looking armour were rarer drops
p much all multiplayer armor sets were done by external artists from third-party companies
Whatever happened to achievement/progress based unlocks? Fuck loot boxes man..
Seeing an armor set and thinking "oh man, that guy is really good" is such a better motivation than "oh that guy was lucky with his loot drops."
not necessarily, a lot of assets were designed in house at 343 and modelling was outsourced to these companies
