News on the Halo CE front Recently a Refined Campaign was released. It gets as close to the Xbox version as possible A few notable things that were done: Fixes water shader used in a30 and b30 so it isn't flat up close. Fixes issues with fog not appearing properly on levels. Fixes glass on AOTCR and TB by making it a water shader instead and by removing its bump mapping. (AMD graphics cards may still see flickering in the Control Room) Fixes twisting that occurs on certain contrails at high framerates (namely the banshee and sniper rifle), and also fixes the contrail of the shade turrets projectile not rendering. Replaces Captain Keyes formal attire model and textures with the ones from xbox rather than the pre-release ones used in Halo PC. Provides multipurpose maps to replace incorrect ones Halo PC ships with & provides multipurpose maps to replace empty ones Halo PC ships with. Reduces the brightness on the Halo scenery objects and restores the ring's shadow which normally renders as invisible on PC. It also fixes the blood pools in c10 so they actually appear instead of being invisible. Replaces the shaders used on the jackal shield, stationary shield, overshield, active camo, teleporter and more with ones that replicate their xbox appearance. Fixes the pistol and plasma rifle shot spread. Replaces all music tracks with xbox adpcm equivalents. While the actual audio quality is somewhat worse than the OGG versions used in Halo PC, these xbox versions have no problems starting, stopping, fading in, or fading out properly. Provides the uncompressed, highest quality versions of many of the bitmaps used on most weapons, vehicles, and Master Chief. A very faithful high resolution recreation of the original Xbox HUD that also addresses some issues introduced to the PC port. I actually like the flat look. I"m not a fan of the tiling effect that it had/has on xbox.
I don't want cosmetics locked behind a wall of randomness. Customizing my Spartan was an important part of my identity through the series, and 5 robbed me of that.

OH MY GOD they finally fixed the AotCR skybox, YES. A lot of these visual features were changed in the PC port and CEA, it's so cool to see the game nearer its original state.
There are a couple bugs left to fix (turret contrails and banshee sounds' pitch) but as soon as they're dealt with it will be the closest experience to the xbox version Somethings that can't be fixed, well, will not ever be fixed (like the white glare on your shield meyer when you get hit)
Why didn't you let OpenSauce scale your HUD? The 4:3 HUD and 16:9 game renders is throwing me off.
OpenSauce wouldn't install for some reason. The HEK setup too Chimera's widescreen is p good but it breaks cinematic black bars so I decided to keep a stretched HUD
Yeah, but that disconnect between studios (and the fact that armors are knocked out by like 4 people at a time in 2ish days) means there's a lot left up to interpretation from some pretty vague conceptual illustrations. They didn't have the best setup.
Is there any easy way to remap the ingame console button? I'm trying to get CE Refined working alongside Chimera but I recently realised that key on my keyboard is bust
Chimera is the best thing ever, Halo: CE is SO SMOOTH AT 144HZ. Hope one day it's possible with Halo 2 (and the other games if they're ever ported)
Hope that a MCC port supports 144hz and beyond out of the box.

Xbox One supports FreeSync on a hardware level so you're never getting screen tearing if that's what you're after.

Forgive my noobiness, but how do I install it? I downloaded "the_best_version_of_halo.7z", but I don't know what to do with it or how to install it. I just dropped it into my maps folder and double clicked the python script but I don't think anything happened. There's no graphics differences in game.
There doesn't seem to be any graphical differences from the refined sp maps by looking at that script.
I'm pretty sure the "Best" Version of Halo is actually a joke file, I think I remember seeing that in the discord. For campaign all you need is UI, singleplayer maps, ending vid and your localisations
there is evidence of a pc port of halo 3, odst, and reach having been ported to eldewrito. There is a currently active thread as we speak on /v/. I've seen it, it works. It's glitchy, but it's there. No I won't be posting evidence here. I understand if you don't believe me.
It has been discussed here for quite a while now. Reach is very much not working right now, and Halo 3/ODST barely works.
The more you talk about it the more likely it is that microsoft takes notice. If this gets DMCA'd or a C&D because of this, i'm going to murder someone.

I've been playing it. it sorta works. lots of broken sequences but I was able to get thru most of the 1st mission before it crashed at the end of the cutscene where johnson gets captured. can't progress past clearing the hangar in Crows's Nest, and none of the marines AI works well enough to get in the warthog with me in Tsavo Highway (although weirdly they have enough brains to avoid collisions), but I assume the mission can be completed. didn't get far enough to find out yet performance wise it's pretty great, tho https://i.imgur.com/ubCgpch.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lChRgj0.jpg
