So I made the mistake of reinstalling Halo 5. After playtesting Master Chief Collection heavily over the last few weeks, the immediate sore thumb that sticks out again is the extraneous base player abilities added to the game. The gunplay is good (not weapon balance or sandbox), the base movement is good (not sprint, slam, and whatever).
How the hell has this game been out for three years and matchmaking is the same three maps over and over again. This is the same BS they pull with the MCC playtests and generally they have this stupid notion of setting playlists to just a few maps and they wonder why they have no player retention. Having four different headshot weapons is also a damn mess. It's just irritating to play.
The soundscape is bland and directional audio is funky too.
Playing Halo 5 and Halo 2 has also made me respect Bungie's efforts with effective weapons' range in Halo 3, maybe the one game where I don't get cross-mapped out of nowhere by a utility weapon. I really hope 343 delivers a focused and engaging arena experience with Infinite, because 5 has reminded me all over again why they're really having to take their time.
I'm just hoping that, in addition to the game actually being good, the PC version isn't as shit as H5F. You've fucked up as a developer when I'd rather play custom matches on a half-finished, cancelled F2P game built for Russia, reusing an engine from 2007, filled to the brim with hex edits, wonky hacks, and a custom launcher to make the game playable. I had more fun with El Dewrito than I did in the entirety of the whole of H5, both on Xbone and PC.
for some reason H3 MCC doesn’t feel right to me. The framerate is fantastic, but it feels like something is off, moreso than ED0.6. Did they entirely remove motionblur or something?
It seemed fine last time I played it.
Can someone gimme a rundown on the current state of the Halo CE modding scene? Its impossible to track down a central discussion for everything.
Is SPV3 still getting updates? Are CMT still working on non-SPV3 projects? Are there any other major projects in the works?
SPV3 is more or less complete but their current project is updating the lumoria campaign with the spv3 target.
there have been changes to lighting in the MCC version of halo 3 but i'm not exactly sure what that manifests into
Moving to 60fps futzed with the engine. Trying to find the exact wording, this is as close as I've found so far.
Tickrates – A single update of a game simulation is known as a "tick." The rate at which the simulation is run on a server is referred often to as the server's tickrate; this is essentially the server equivalent of a client's frame rate, absent any rendering system. When the Vista port was created for Halo 2, the “tickrate” was updated from 30 to 60, which resulted in the fire rate of some weapons inadvertently changing. There are also some similar oddities that have been discovered with AI fire rates that appears to be linked to the shift from 30hz to 60hz. Sean has been working on digging into this and identifying areas where this can be adjusted to more accurately replicate the original Xbox experience. This is ongoing but eventually is an area where the team will definitely want community feedback once this work hits a public flight build.
Basically automatic weapons are doing more damage than they should. It's fixed in the insider builds and feels a lot better. The lighting has been altered as well.
Hate to piss on your bonfire but there's a chance it can be Gordy Haab replacing him instead, since Mr Haab did the soundtracks for Halo Wars 2 and its expansion
No.
Tom Salta is way more likely than Gordy Haab though. He did the soundtracks for Spartan Strike, Spartan Assault, Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo Online. Although with the Jen Taylor, Joseph Staten, Marty O'Donnell meet-up earlier this year that "wasn't random" there's a good chance he's already been hired. A pentagram using CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach to summon him probably wouldn't hurt though.
I'm guessing that the new TV show is going to be based on the new Ark conflict. Gideon Emery hinted at it on Twitter and any human characters in Halo Wars 2 are based off of their current actor/actress.
H2A is probably the best product out of what you listed but I'm sticking with Gordy Haab, simply given his experience creating original material for Halo Wars 2
sounds dismissive to Tom Salta but H2A was just updated music (some of it not living up to the original material imo) and the 2 phone games were, well, generic phone games
I don't know anything about Halo 5's music aside from having heard its main menu on halome.nu and it sounded pretty good to me. Cool enough original stuff while still having good callbacks to the original trilogy.
Personally I've always thought both CEA and H2A's updated tracks don't feel updated at all, just different.
And I find the Halo 1/2 "sound" much more appealing. Maybe it's the instrument samples used, idk.
Yeah, I didn't much care for the H2A soundtrack. It's the same music I love but it sounds different in a lot of ways I dont like.
I really like the H2A version of the pistol

I really like the overall design but the scribbly scuffs bother me. It looks super obviously hand drawn.
Kazuma's work was a great compliment to Neil Davidge's more "out there" stuff in Halo 4. On it's own in Halo 5 it mostly sounded like generic orchestral filler.
Neil Davidge's work didn't have enough callback to the musical heritage of the series imo, But in a game where the developers were considering retaining almost nothing, it really does carry the undercurrent of what the original game's score tries to make you feel.
just saying, if halo had a battle royale mode i would probably play the fuck out of it
Apparently the new Loot Crate has a callback to one of the Cortana Letters. While I love the late 90’s Bungie callbacks, I hope they can back it up with some good shit.

So this time it looks like Skybox is doing more than Forge, meaning 343 is freeing themselves up to do...something. Maybe it’s just that big of a game? Maybe there’s something else in the pipeline for the same release window?
Meaning it's a huge project project and 343 isn't handing the PC version directly.
That's probably a good thing tbh.
Dedicated team for the PC version is definitely a good sign - it's likely they've learned their lesson from the shoddy botch job port that was H5Forge and are taking their time early in development instead of post release
Apparently the Flood Juggernaut, a cut enemy from the previous games, shows up in that Fireteam Raven arcade game.
god I wish they didn't make that an arcade game, like, really, is there a demand for arcade games anywhere outside Japan?
It was only made because the arcade cabinet company wanted to do a halo game and approached 343 with the idea. It probably wouldn't have been made at all otherwise.
