Marines also make an appearance in Reach along with their models being used in Anniversary. I am glad Infinite is bringing back the classic helmet.

Yeah but the Marines were at the very end and even with the Marines and Troopers sharing color schemes you can still see differences due to the Army dudes being more outfitted and kitted out for long range patrol ops and the like.
While Reach is still the pinnacle of Halo's aesthetic imo, it also introduced each Spartan looking unique, which I hate.
Wasn’t Spartan III armor less expensive by design so they could have a larger force of them opposed to the relatively small number of Spartan IIs?

I also assumed their armor was somewhat cobbled together as opposed to custom made. A lot of the gear described in the menu are prototypes so maybe they were requisitioned by members of Noble who figured it would be better than their stock helmets or it was whatever was given to them at the time

Normal Spartan III's were given SPI armour that was basically somewhat better ODST armour with shitty active camo. Noble had MJOLNIR armour. And yeah, the impression in Reach is that they scrounged and cobbled together they're armour, but by the time of Halo 4 every Spartan IV seemed to have unique, individual armour
I thought the whole point of non-standard MJOLNIR was that the different variants were designed for different tasks, like EOD for example. I don't see what's wrong with them kitting themselves out with appropriate gear, to an extent - now there's like a million different armor variants and at least half of them are redundant, but having a smaller selection of mission-appropriate or role-appropriate gear makes sense.
MJOLNIR armor had been around for 21 years by the time of Combat Evolved, I would imagine variant or specialized pieces would've been developed in that time. Also, the lore for many pieces mentions that they are Mark IV or Mark V pieces upgraded to work with whatever the predominant suit is in the game.
