To be honest that line made sense when WoW was in its early years. The Forsaken and Horde alliance wasn't very solid and for the Forsaken it was mostly out of necessity than any real desire to be a part of the New Horde. Plus at the time the living of the world had every reason to hate, fear and mistrust the undead since they had just recently been faced with an undead apocalypse, as well as betrayal caused by them followed by a super bloody war kickstarted by them. The Forsaken, in turn, had been shunned and attacked by the living for something that was really of no fault of their own. They were lost and alone in a world that wanted them (re)dead and a lot of them still had understandable goals such as wanting to come to terms with their new life, reclaiming their old life or simply taking justified revenge on the Scourge for ruining their lives. Oh hey would you look at that, Blizzard actually used to know how to write factions with complexity and depth.
Yeah I didn't really like the book much at all. Besides the fact it wasn't really an amazing read to begin with, the Author went at lot of the lore that is kept intentionally vague in-game, to accommodate player choice, with very broad strokes, to the point where they even outright retconned the existence of one of my characters. I really liked how the Priest order hall was centred around the conclave of light and shadow, so you could feel like your character belonged there no matter what spec you played. And then Netherlight temple comes up in before the storm and the author just outright states that everyone there gets on because they all fucking love the light and there's literally no mention of the fact half the temple is dedicated to the Void.
100% fucking this. The lore books that Golden wrote are utter shit even when Metzen was still fully working at Blizzard. Still mad at her and her shitty writing after I finally got a hardcover of Warcrimes that I preordered because I was hyped for WoD. The whole Windrunner bullshit needs to go because she's been constantly pushing it and it's just dumb.
I mean, to be fair, isn't the whole point of the Light that you worship that part, while acknowledging that the Void is an essential part of it too? There's usually a reason why people distrust those who worship/focuses on the Void - those who do often go mad.
saurfang who can't sleep properly due to having constant dreams of screaming and dying draenei just watches as sylvanas committs genocide. has blizzard ever written a more woefully fucking 'cockblocked' character than saurfang? the only fucking person in the horde who gets things done just chooses to sit back and watch instead of killing nathanos and sylvanas on the spot.
The only way I can be brought back on board with all this is if Saurfang kills Sylvanas and her shit bag fuckboy and becomes the Warchief we deserve.
but even then, that's just Garrosh 2.0 Are Blizzard's writers really so bad that they can't think of a plot line outside of systematically killing off the leaders of one faction?
I'll take Garrosh 2: Undead Boogaloo if it means Sylvanas getd stuffed in a grave again and we get a not shit warchief that does more than sit in your garrison and die in the next expansion's intro.
Similarly, have they explained why the Tauren are just going along with it too? I mean, the Tauren are a people who are generally nature loving and believe in balance and living harmoniously with the world, who sometimes come into friendly contact with Night Elves because of their shared interest in that natural balance, who've had leaders who have been among the most wise and who have a strong sense of honour... And they just go along with attempted genocide and the burning of Teldrassil? Why?
Because, uh.... h-hey look, the Alliance is attacking the Arathi Highlands! I dunno, man. Right now, I think it's best we don't even bother asking these questions and just kind of roll with it. Nothing involving Sylvanas' rule makes sense. What I did notice in the Warbringer video though, was Nathanos actually hesitating for a moment after Sylvanas told him to burn Teldrassil. I'm sure he'd never betray her, but I feel it's somewhat telling that arguably her most loyal follower actually, for a moment at least, stands back instead of just immediately doing what she says.
because the spooky zombie lady said "For the Horde" which means she's okay just another step in the long plot to make Baine warchief
There is literally 0% chance that blizz would let their blue waifu die to some smelly orc that isn't also impossibly noble like Thrall. I think wishing for her to die at all is optimistic, garrosh was very clearly going to be disposed of, he was constantly portrayed as unreasonable and in the wrong at all times. We were told his actions were brutal and awful and the game presented them as such. Sylvanas is the total opposite, the game presents her actions as heroic (if you're horde) and you're supposed to be cheering her on. Any atrocities hand waved away with "dis is war". Virginfang looks on from the sidelines mumbling about honor.
she's so fucking morally grey now guys
hope no one but sylvanas even tries to defend under city, but that won't happen
Rescue Citizens 0/982 I'M JUST A MAN WITH A FLYING LIZARD CUT ME SOME SLACK JFC I hate how black and white this is being of the horde just being the baddest bad guys
Blizzard need to fundamentally change the Horde. The Horde originally existed because they were the scrappy underdogs that banded together for survival. The Alliance were the dominant force, albeit weakened. Now, both are full Empires in their own right. The Alliance is at full strength, and the Horde are only threatened by the next expansions big baddie. The Horde doesn't need a Warchief anymore. They're not the victims in anything beyond writer-fiat. Give the Horde a ruling council instead of a Warchief, and then you play into the Hordes strength of being so racially diverse. That way at least, when Blizzard still tie their shoelaces together and try to kill another major Horde NPC you at least have something for the Horde community to get behind, since you're not killing someone who speaks for the whole faction.
This is probably actually a bridge too far for them in story, and something will happen. ...hopefully the end of the faction divide.
I can't wait to retake the Undercity. I'm gonna go into the throne room and wipe my balls on everything.
Mm I think they're heading for a 'no more specific factions, play with your friends regardless' in the next xpac or two
That'll never happen.
I disagree, I think they want it to happen because people being unable to play with their friends is the #1 issue - it'll be merc-style rather than 'no factions' though
The thing is I'd be totally behind going back to classic Horde vs. Alliance if the Horde had an even remotely respectable leader or motivations.
Remember the q&a guys though you're SUPPOSED to feel upset for an indeterminate amount of time! Wait till it turns out that its actually barty crouch junior drinking polyjuice potion pretending to be sylvanas and everythings forgiven!
unironically Garithos was right. if we killed the elves beforehand we'd have teldrassil today.
Honestly I'd love this, because it looks like what they wanted to kinda do after SoO due of the end cinematic. If you remember the end of SoO after defeating Garrosh, the two factions decided to have a truce. Suddenly that whole thing got canned without an explanation because of WoD for whatever reason. http://i.heykidwannayiff.com/chrome_2018-07-31_22-12-36.png Even NPCs in Stormshield mention it http://i.heykidwannayiff.com/Wow_2018-07-31_22-21-01.png Even in the 3rd chapter of Chronicles, it's cannon that Alliance and Horde fought together to defeat a common foe. Plus the whole Stormheim conflict between Sylvanas and Genn was awfully forced and didn't make any sense in the context of the expac. Just let me play with my hordie friends without having to keeping up two characters constantly geared up dammit.
I imagine Azshara's will explain her motivations for showing up personally in BfA, and probably tell a little what she's been up to for the last 10k years. But yeah, I agree. Sylvanas' short just cemented the "evil madwoman" trope.
looking forward to the cutscene where sylvanas breaks her hipbone after furiously humping her edge and gets replaced with a better character
no but she has had a lot to do with the books and consulting the storywriters so thats enough for me to disregard her entirely.
The only Christie Golden book I've read was Rise of the Horde. I thought the writing was so incredibly lame that it actually boosted my confidence in my own writing abilities. Then when I came back to WoW I found out she'd had continued and increased involvement with the franchise ever since...
it was really nice of blizz to make the horde campaign quest make sense for us paladin slaying, dragon genociding, corpse defiling dks not sure how a druid going around blowing up wisps would make sense though. Really sucks for them :v
