My only issue is that I don't have enough time to play it.
Why does dodge never dodge grab attacks? The only way it dodges is if you run like 50 fucking feet away.
thrust attacks? you can unlock a skill to block them
What i did was just sprint the whole time. Don't stop sprinting unless you're attacking. It worked pretty well. Killed it on the 2nd try.
The only thing I really dont like is dragon rot. game is already hard as hell with bosses taking out 90% of your health in one hit or combo, don't need any more punishment for dying.
Definitely getting mixed vibes on Sekiro so far. The combat is great, but I feel unbelievably weak. Minibosses are not fun to fight because I do nearly zero damage to the poise or whatever it's called. I hit them, parry them, even stomp that Shinobi Hunter guy's spear and it barely even fills up.
So far I've fought:
Samurai general guy seen in all the early footage and that was challenging because they barely explained sweep attacks to you before fighting him. Needless to say, it was a fair fight and pretty fun.
Then I fought the Shinobi Hunter in the past. He was difficult only because of having to kill all the mooks before smacking him around. Also fair and somewhat fun, but the stab counter stomp felt underwhelming for something that does 'tons of poise damage'.
Next was fat daikatana drunk man, again in the past. Christ, pile on massively low damage with tons of mooks and tracking grabs and it's a massive asspain of a fight. Couldn't beat him because I had a fraction of health and got hit by a 2 frame rising kick.
Lastly, I quit playing after dying to the Hulkamania Ogre Guy several times and having everyone favorite new mechanic kick in. At first, he's not so bad: Oil 'em up, torch him, smack him for nearly zero poise damage, repeat. Then get scooped right out of your fire blast animation by a 2 frame grab piledriver, then another grab where he magnetically swooses right up to you, smacks your face, then yeets you into a wall for 75% of your health.
I'm thinking I missed something, somehow pulled a DS1 and wandered through the Graveyard and into the Catacomb. I die in nearly two hits, deal aforementioned no damage to poise and just get absolutely destroyed.
Oh, and dodging sucks fat nuts, holy moly.
Sekiro_juzou
Don't know how to embed videos from Streamable but it's probably for the best I don't anyway for spoilers I guess.
But man fighting Juzou the fatass drunk with a Murakumo is a real eye opener on how boss fights can easily go from stupid hard to easy depending on how you approach it.
Wasted like 5-6 deaths on him just trying to figure how to even approach him but this fucker wastes me in like 2 hits. I feel weak as shit.
But after figuring out enemy aggros work, I was able to pick off all the goonies one by one and then sneak up on Juzou for a free deathblow. That suddenly made the rest of the fight a fucking cake walk.
Fighting Butterfly felt like a rythm game almost. It was kinda cool.
Blazing Bull is a bit of blazing bullshit, isn't it? Can't figure out how to hit the fucker, he's thrashing me to death in an instant before I can even retaliate, and I barely do any damage to boot.
Doesn't dragonrot only decrease the unseen aid chance? You still get to keep some experience and money after dying. It's much more lenient than previous souls games.
The entire game is just gank city.
I actually beat him in 2 tries despite getting absolutely fucking wrecked by everything else. My strat for the bull was to always stay at his back hind leg (I was at his back right). Make sure you continue strafing from his back leg towards his ass so his quick swipe attack won't hit you. Every few hits will stagger him and do a lot of poise damage.
The Shinobi Hunter in the Dreamis destroying me. I always get the drop on him to take one deathblow but his attacks are so hard to read and deal with that I just can't get him down. I was fine until him, he is the reason I got the first Dragonrot penalties.
Honestly I find a lot of the multi-deathblow enemies excessively difficult so far. They are clearly meant as a replacement for things like red-eyed enemies and red phantoms mechanically. Except those usually needed a specific strategy to deal with and these kill you just by looking at you and take about 30 minutes straight of perfect deflects to damage a little.
I've gotten 4 dragonrot already. 2 of them are npcs I don't believe I've even met yet.
I'm dying a LOT, like a hell of a lot more than in the Souls games. 2 bar bosses/mini-bosses are absolutely fucking shredding me.
Like, I'm definitely having a blast so far, and it's clear I just need to get used to it more. It makes you feel awesome to nail it through an area, stealthing about and parrying everything, was really pleased with getting through the tutorial area and only getting hit once.
But it's really deflating to meet an enemy where several perfect deflects and spear stomps all mean nothing because it took like a millimeter off of their life, and all they have to do is breathe hard and your spleen falls out twice.
I just died to a boss and got 3 dragonrot notifications back to back.
Okay no this system is actually fucked
Oh good, I'm not the only one. That dude alone took me like an hour. Now I'm stuck on some other spear guy... spears are the worst
I have zero clue as to how increasing the stagger bar works.
I've done flawless blocks and damage runs and the bar doesn't go up at all, but then I do an absolutely shite run where I'm barely connecting hits and just eating damage without blocking and suddenly the boss is getting like 3x the drain
Honestly, I can't tell if I even like this game anymore. Started off strong, but getting fed DS2 levels of bullshit enemies, doing fuck all damage, and taking it all in their stead is really wearing those opening bits thin.
Found the blighttown equivalent. Hope you all like snipers.
has anyone figured out how to disable vsync yet? it's really fucking with my 144hz monitor, especially if you turn off motion blur. it's judder city.
It really feels like I just don't have that many moves at my disposal and it's super frustrating. You've got your sword moves, a single equippable extra combat move, a charge stab, your gadget, and a block. That's it. I've even unlocked the second skill tree and they all just feel like little upgrades, with the exception of like, two follow up attacks.
Skills spoiler:
There's more than two skill trees.
Unrelated death mechanic spoiler:
Dragonrot applying on all deaths is fucking absurdly stupid if they want to make the game difficult. It's fine to apply it to the in-place resurrection; that makes fucking sense. Applying it to all deaths just means you can ruin your save file by being... new to the game????
acc to the butterfly bossfight, enemies with lower HP take in a lot more stagger damage.
The only issue is, damage in this game is so piss poor that you feel like you're smacking someone around with a toy sword while you get 2 hit by most dickheads.
I finally brought the Burning Beef down, I guess it just took me a bit to understand how to fight him, and he could be a lot worse.
I'm liking Sekiro but my major point of contention is definitely how pathetic your damage output is towards bosses. I'm at the Drunkard and I spent more time whacking away to get a single deathblow than I do killing an entire regular DS or BB boss.
Oh man, I thought I actually managed to kill Lady Butterfly on my first attempt.
How foolish I was.
I agree completely, the game is infuriating.
