Any tips for (Early game boss) Lady Butterfly?I saved her for later but even going back she's still bending me over a barrel.
I have 4 uses of the Estus Gourd ™, upgraded vitality and attack once each, I know to use shuriken when she jumps, that helps, I even brought the first Ichimonji Art because of how aggressive she is, to use for restoring posture. But it seems like by the time I get to the whole "lol do it again but harder now"part I'm spent and don't have much going since it seems to take forever just to get there so I'm clearly doing something wrong.
So the giant red marker thing means you just can't do anything against it right? I'm having a LOT of trouble with the ogre for some reason, and it's strange considering I nohit Midir my third try at him. I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to be doing.
Just means it can't be blocked. If it's a big circular low sweep you are meant to jump it, if they try to grab you, to dash out of the way of it, and if it's a thrust attack you can still deflect it, there is also an even better technique you can get early for parrying thrusts.
The red symbol means it's a grab, a stab, or a sweep.
Grabs can not be blocked or deflected, you must avoid them. You need to jump, dodge, or sprint away. Grabs usually have a longer recovery than stabs or sweeps.
Stabs can be deflected but they can not be blocked. If you do not have the Mikiri Counter you need to dodge stabs (to the side, though forward can work if you time it perfectly). If you do have the Mikiri Counter you want to press the dodge button with deflection timing (pressing forward and dodge works, but other directions will fuck up the counter. If you can try to stand still when countering). You can not jump over stabs, the opponent will just stab up and do extra damage.
Sweeps can not be blocked, I don't think they can be deflected but I may be wrong. You need to jump over sweeps (or be super precise with a dodge, but it's not worth it). If you press jump after jumping over a sweep you'll do a downward kick, which deals massive posture damage.
Many enemies only have 1 danger attack. Spear dudes only have stabs, the ogre only has grabs. Elite enemies usually have multiple danger attacks.
So real talk, phase 1 you can cheese her by constantly dodging to the right, then immediately attacking her once, then repeating. If you do it right, she starts winding up to do something just as you smack her and you can get through phase 1 without getting hit. Phase 2 is similar, except she uses a few more moves; If you aren't able to tell what kind of perilous attack she's using, just jump away and to the side repeatedly until she finishes her combos, then run in for a single hit and repeat. When she summons ghosts, only kill those that won't leave you vulnerable to attack, otherwise just run away and wait for her to turn them into missiles; Always be moving, and when they come at you, hunker down behind a pillar and keep your guard up just incase a few butterflies get through. Mind take a few tries, but if you can learn when she's vulnerable you can just whittle down her vitality until she drops.
I found the best course is to keep the pressure on her. Listen to the sounds of the swords clashing, there's a distinctly different sound which lets you know when the direction of the fight switches. So if you're atacking you need to start deflecting the attacks which will come back, if you're deflecting the sound is your queue to press the advantage. You can block all of her attack except the sweep, and she only has a sweep. When she does the sweep tap jump and then attack to chip her health down, don't bother with the air kick until her health is low and her posture is vulnerable. When she's up on the wires she counts as being in the air, so shuriken do extra damage to her, they also knock her down.
Essentially don't let her control the flow of the fight. Get in and keep heron the defensive as much as you can.
Yeah no, done for now, the Guardian ape while super cool, has actually made me put down the game. His first phase's grabs are the most inconsistent thing ever, and for a two fucking phase fight, taking 60% of my health in one hit is no no.
And then I've only gotten to the second phase three times, and the dude spams what is essentially curse in a fucking huge AOE. Great. Fun.
Wonderful fights actually actively ruined by several mechanics. Like, the fight itself is actually brilliant. The boss has a really interesting move set and the second phase is visually and mechanically really amazing. Just, wow that might be the angriest I've gotten at a boss fight in ages.
The grabs are what gets me. Like if nearly every time I can see my character snap from ten fucking feet away then no, that isn't a grab. I've not had this problem with any other enemy save for like, one spear miniboss that didn't take away half my health in one stab.
A funny cheese tactic I found by accident against her: side dodging.
I found out that she actually can almost do nothing if you just spam side dodge attack on her and was able to easily beat her without having to res or use most of my gourd
I killed my pappy and burnt some incense. How close am I to the end?
Marker means unblockable attacks, it can be either a grab, a sweep or a thrust.
Grabs are usually avoided by dodge side-forward toward the enemy, which gets you to the back of the enemy and you can hit them a couple times.
Sweeps are best avoided by jumping. You can jump again and stomp on the enemy doing sweep to deal a lot of posture damage.
Thrust can be deflected with a fairly strict timing, but if you have the Mikiri skill you can dash toward the enemy when the attack is coming up to parry it, which also deals a lot of posture damage.

great game.
The purple cape fella took too much of my unseen aid and I decided to take his life, man does it feel good to do a backstab on that asshole.
Any advice for Lady Butterfly phase 2? I've got actually fighting them down but their projectile attack stunlocks me to death half the time.
My game bugged out or something because there's an area in a temple full of crickets that are giving me 30k EXP per kill and there's 10 of them. Clearing the room gives me almost 20 skill points, but the crickets in the next room are only giving 15 exp
Thankfully I think I'm near the end of the area so I'll probably die to a boss enough times to lose all these dirty points.
TBH im thinking of finding a way to give myself infinite cures for dragon rot just so I can experience the entire game. I don't give a shit about unseen aid, but locking out storylines is a massive no from me.
Does the Shichimen Warriorin Fountainhead drop anything good? This is the only fight so far that I've said is 100% cheap.
they drop some weird unique items.
Also I suggest killing the ghost boys in the lady fight because they give you spirit emblems (which are great for the shooting stars that knock her out of the air)
Holy shit Guardian Ape was cool. The initial execution is brutal, and the fake out where it’s surely dead, but then it picks up its head and sword made me shit myself.
Incidentally, just killed Pappy Owl and fed Girl Kuro the umbilical cords—er—snake guts.
here we goooo end game probably
Just fought the real one and got it on my 2nd try. Probably one of my favorite fights though.
was it just me or is his 2nd phase like 10x easier, he's like heaps slow and his combos aren't that hard to deflect
My favourite boss so far is the one against Robert's dad. Having a guy who takes actually no damage and very little posture damage but doesn't recover posture at all was a nice change of pace. That an the bit where you do a death blow and nothing happens.
Roberto!!!
has anyone beaten the double Ashina Spear guys at the VERY END of the game in Ashina Reservoir? this shits impossible
I almost beat the Guardian Ape on my first try, but I got knocked down during one of his tantrum combos, but it wouldn't let me safety-roll out of the stun for whatever reason, and I died. That's pretty fucking stupid honestly.
You can stealth up with a stealth item ball and kill the dude on the left first (he only has 1 health bar so it makes it a 1v1)
Maybe final boss spoilers, Idk.
Did Isshin just crawl out of his grandsons neck? This game is fucking nuts, I have no clue what's going on story-wise.
Im stuck at fucking Gun-Mummy Valley or whatever it's caled because this weirdo "Giraffe" keeps trying to show me his knife collection
After beating Giraffe, I've decided that I'm never gonna complain about Capra Demon ever again.
