Your first idea, the one you thought was 'cheesing' is the only way you can actually kill him: Let him break the bridge walls and then position him near the edge when you go in for the kill.
Also, relating to Xion21's post. Generally the eavesdropped conversations are referring to something in the general vicinity of the conversation. The first conversation you can eavesdrop on is about General Oniwa, the first actual boss (provided ou don't try Lady Butterfly first). The second conversation you can eavesdrop on is about the ogre just up the ramp, though it also lets you know that fire (and firecrackers) scare enemies with red eyes. The conversation about striping armour is referring to the bell wielding fatty in the next courtyard, letting you know you can strip their belly armour off. You probably didn't notice this because the belly armour looks like a WWE championship belt made of cheap leather, but it's actually a very poorly fitting piece of metal. Honestly I didn't even notice it because I always try to backstab those guys.
i literally got fisted by a monster.
Spent an hour on the Corrupted Monk fight, Fuck that last phase entirely. Also noticed you can DB the second phase the minute he gets out of the phantom attack. Him and Owl are so annoying with some of their moves with 0 openers. As soon as I got to the next area, it was like removing the weights off my legs and curbstomping the normal enemies.

Do you get anything for beating the whole game with Kuros charm debuff?
Welp, just beat Sekiro! Man, I take back what I said earlier about not being sure how I feel about the game: I feel it's an absolutely incredible game. Issue is, anyone who is expecting Soulsborne is gonna get flattened. Combat is just so much more in-depth and engaging. You have to participate in back to back swordplay, not "roll, punish, roll, punish". That said, I'm going to gush a bit about the final boss, so here's a blurry wall and a big fat bold SPOILERS BELOW: Goddamn I was not expecting four health bar final boss. Ginchiro was just little bitch since I memorized his Tomoe of Lightning attacks, except he has that new big slash attack from the black blade. However, after committing die and giving birth to grandpa(???) was when the real show started. Dude was pretty crazy with his iaijutsu stuff and other fancy swordsmanship, but whatever, died once but got his phase taken care of and did he just pull a spear out of his ass oh jesus. After whittling that down, he finally goes full Gwyn and starts blasting you with lightning... which makes the fight kinda easy because if you can master the lightning reversal, he's way easier than phase 1, 2, and 3, since he absolutely wrecks himself everytime he does it. But god, when you finally wreck his final orb and he just kneels there, for the coup de grace, I got goosebumps by the sheer awesomeness of finally kicking the badass grandpa back into hell's retirement home. I ended up getting the best ending, where Kuro gets absorbed by Girl Kuro and the adventure continues! All in all, an absolutely brutally beautiful experience! Thank you, Sekiro, to expelling my body of all the absolutely vitriolic words I've ever memorized!
Guys I suggest getting this if you have a 100+ hz monitor Release Version 1.0.2.0 · uberhalit/SekiroFpsUnlockAndMore · Git.. Doesn't cause any issues, nothing in the game is tied to framerate and even consoles aren't locked to 60 they're fluctuating/variable. Also has a few other helpful fixes.

I used the better Red Candy not realizing it lowered your HP In the bosses 2nd phase https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/386185554305482753.png
Only complaints with the new gameplay so far: -I swear some enemies will block a couple of times and then hit you through your attack before the deflect warning happens. -You can get really fucked if an enemy starts an attack pattern the same time you do. In Dark Souls this is an obvious mistake, but they want you to be aggressive and keep the enemy's posture damage from going down. -Some of the bosses go out of their way to make posture damage seem like a terrible idea. Running around the arena like an idiot and waiting for cheap shots may take awhile, but don't tell me that learning all of the risky shit you'd have to otherwise is going to save you from dying a million times.
Just finished the Genichiro fight The fight turned into a fast paced rythym of deflecting, attacking and mikiri countering and became anime as fuck. I think that will go down as one of the most fun boss fights I've had in years So far I'm loving this game, I feel like this is what Metal Gear Rising wish it could have been
Pretty sure theres new enemy placements in NG+, thoguh I am not sure if it is because of NG+ or NG+++. I've seen the purple ninjas have been added to the Drunkard fight and the whole section before it. There is even a new eavesdrop there from seeing an NG+++ stream.
Really hard to feel this game. The absurd difficulty of some of the boss fights feel like the dev team has utter contempt for me. That Seven Spears lad with his insta-kill 360-noscope tracking stab is 100% the kind of thing I'm talking about. I'm going to try my damndest to play it to completion anyway because it's going to be another 3 years until another From game, but still. I really enjoy the game when it's exploring the levels and fighting the basic enemies. It has that neat From feel to it with level design that rewards exploration and intelligent play. The non-linearity and the secrets are still there. The difficulty of enemy encounters is generally reasonable and you have different ways you can approach a lot of them. It is also super satisfying to nail deflects and one-shot weaker enemies. But the bosses are just balls. Their absurd difficulty feels like utter contempt from the side of the developers. Things like brazen bull damaging you through deflects or General Oniwa being able to hit you through a deflect if you're too close to him don't make me feel challenged, they make me feel cheated. The fact that every boss I've faced thus far, with the exception of the ogre at the start, has been "Man With Samurai Sword", and the fact that they kill you so fast means learning them takes irritatingly long. Sometimes, bosses don't even feel like tests of skill, with brazen bull especially, it feels less like I got gud and more like I tried enough times for him to moveset roulette long enough to let me win.
Mikiri counter makes spear users into an absolute joke. All you have to do is dash at them to completely shut them down.
Well if you dont like the general, you're going to absolutely hate the late game where almost everyone is like the general as a normal enemy.
Probably one of the few who didn't enjoy Genichiro and i play aggressively without leaving breath time but the bow is so annoying. Last phase was fun though with that gimmick
anyone else done the alternate ending bosses? they were a nice change of pace (old isshin and owl 2.0)
Fuck you Miyazaki for that last boss fight. I can live with 3 phases but 4? Doesn't help that the 3rd phase is hard as fuck. I want a challenge but this is just awful.
You're playing it wrong.
What, the last phase was the easiest of all of them besides the 1st. The extra gimmick the boss throws in makes it easier.
I beat the [post-Flower boss spoilers] Headless Ape and now I can reaffirm that I didn't find it bullshit at all. It was probably made easier for me though because of how defensive I was during the Guardian Ape fight so I practically knew all the attacks by heart, and his additional overhead smash was a guaranteed self own every time. It was just Ornstzilla and Smonkey Kong. What's the issue with the bow? With the examples you give, this reads exactly like someone reviewing Dark Souls and its 'absurd difficulty' after reaching Capra Demon, to be honest. Personally I haven't felt this game being noticably any more or less difficult than any of the Soulsborne games, and now I can actually . I'd suggest that maybe what you're missing is just how many ways you can choose to approach a fight, for example you mention the Bull damaging you through deflects - but have you considered that it is on fire? Have you tried dodging to the side? Jumping away? Jumping over? Jump-kicking? Sprinting to the side? Sprinting around and keeping a close distance at all times? Sometimes it's not only about deflecting and dodging perfectly, but getting a little bit creative with your style.
I understand now that a big part of the game is adapting like a shinobi would. Sure, a lot of fights can be won by smash your heads together until the other guy dies, but their their head is bigger and spikier than yours, you gotta use your head instead to come up with an alternate strategy. Remember, you can run REALLY fast with zero stamina use, you can JUMP, which is actually super useful as a dodge (much more so than the actual dodge button in some cases, and you’ve got a Swiss ARMy Knife full of a ton of nifty gizmos. Also, pause actually pauses, so don’t bother hot keying your consumables besides healing items, just use the buffs from the menu, it’s way safer than fiddling around mid fight.
The air barrage starts waaaay faster. He has stupid quickdraw on that lol. Granted you can also interrupt the whole thing if you just keep attacking\pressuring but it's one of those moves that it can screw you over on the 1st hit. Rest of the moveset is fine, sadly i fought him with a different mindset and ended up not enjoying it before i could proper get used to the mechanics (I pretty much r1, get deflect and dodged forward his blind spot so i could punish with 2 or 3 hits and repeat but next playthrough i'll refight him with a better view)
After I got a little more comfortable with the controls and certain mechanics, I started enjoying the game's bosses and mini bosses a lot more. True Monk was an amazing fight and probably one of my favorites. The one armed ninja fucks can still all die in a fire tho. >:(((
sekiro is the assert dominance game of fromsoft games. be in control of the situation = win. hesitation is defeat

I mean the second one from Isshin, not his third one. Genichiro is easy, Isshin's first one also but his second when he pulls his spear and gun out is super hard for me. Had no problem with any boss so far (even the Sculptor)
The shield attack is pretty good for that phase. You can parry then get a hit in that does quite a bit of damage.
The middle of the beam is not on fire, and I'm not exactly sure why your tone has to be so arrogant. Consider that the rest of my post implied that I did actually beat it, I don't think the way I did was anything but the product of patience. Brazen Bull moves seemingly exclusively on his own terms, many of my runs did not go well because he decided to do his charge over and over again, it's not an attack that's punishable because he keeps moving, and failing a dodge means paying in almost all my health bar. I beat him after he decided to just do his side headbutt over and over. The fact that he won't even consistently kill the spearmen in front of his pen, and if he doesn't, they come after you and ignore him, is just the cherry on top of possibly the least enjoyable boss fight I've had thus far.
