I'm excited for new enemies - HEV Zombie and Houndeye 'Mom' Hope they have a lot stuff to find out
Did the suit voice say something about dark matter in the trailer? It was hard to make out.

This is pretty great news to wake up to. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205998/607ba6b1-59d5-4602-9811-2b84de656d46/xen screenshot 01.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205998/640818fc-918c-48ab-9af0-3865d79fb7f0/xen screenshot 02.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205998/f989ce16-2292-4a9a-bde2-0dbe7709f2bc/xen screenshot 03.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205998/51ad909e-27a9-4ae4-a9b4-b8f9d07273e0/xen screenshot 05.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205998/adc36746-4e53-4efd-be51-efb564a3402d/xen screenshot 04.png I know people have already said this before, but can we appreciate how this was all done in the Source engine?
now i'm scared my rig won't take it
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205958/6a0a81a2-6cfe-42c7-a536-a0c06059df55/he jump.png Oh ok, so they can leap out at you now. Great, like they didn't make make me uncomfortable enough when they stuck to swimming.
I'm really curious how will Gonarch and Nihilanth look like.
I always cheat in Ichy levels.
It's kind of funny seeing all this new stuff and how un-source like it is then I see that splash texture that hasn't been changed since 04
I mean, they already jumped in scripted sequences in Half-Life. I think it's the same deal here.
The quality of the Xen trailer reminds me how dated the original Black Mesa trailer is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G32_q_3es8E Outdated SMG, weird filter, too much glare, etc. This was made in 2008, yet it's still used as the main trailer to advertise the game on its Steam page. https://i.imgur.com/fbY9aq2.png There's also this guy.
The same Gloves and HEV suit arms as today though, which honestly look really dated and out of place in Retail. Still though, instead of looking at the gorgeous environments made with blood and tears, im staring at Gordon's arms so maybe Im the one with problems :V Just wish arm mods didn't mess with grenades for some reason.
I assure you, I've been waiting till the release of the last leg of the mod only because, on an average, I don't like to play/watch/read something and then have to wait for the next part, no matter the actual waiting time and how much I enjoy the thing. I do the same thing with episodic games and TV series
Fair enough. I know a lot of people are like that. I'm weird in that I regularly abandon complete games for weeks, even months, and move onto something else, before returning and finishing the previous game I was playing. Sometimes this happens multiple times, depending on how long the game is. I've dropped Dying Light twice so far - the first time because my potato of a laptop could barely run it and the low framerate was giving me motion sickness, and the second because I got X-Com 2 for a really good deal. But before I started X-Com 2, I installed Enemy Within and beat it, because I hadn't touched it since getting my new computer, even though I was literally at the final mission. Oh, and I haven't played X-Com 2 for several days now, after playing non-stop for a couple weeks, but I have played Team Fortress 2, the one game I inevitably return to when I don't feel like playing anything else. I don't know why I'm like this, but the key thing is I always eventually go back and finish a game, and no how many breaks I take,I can pick right up where I left off without any issue until I've finished the whole thing. I can do this with TV series too, and even books to some extent. It's definitely a product of how my (high-functioning autistic) mind works, because while daydreaming I can instantly jump from one subject to another multiple times over the course of a mere hour, whether I'm working, out doing errands, or at home. And although I keep returning to the same subjects, they never get old.
Any mirrors to the trailer? YouTube's compression makes it look like total ass
I think it was just the "blood loss detected" line, if you're talking about the scene with the HEV zombie.
Xen looks but like https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/797/48d8525a-601d-4794-ab75-a25689fc8e12/image.png Can we get some hair on this dude's sack?
who said big momma was a dude
Who said dudes are the only ones who can have hairy sacks?
So I'm noticing this structure is visible in several spots, and gets attention in the title card, https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/210412/1c65554c-fd32-4c05-8f2c-4f44cf3b19d5/xen tower 4 title.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/210412/bb616dff-46dd-4806-bacb-9494084df0de/xen tower 3.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/210412/366bac39-b56f-412b-99a9-1824ede02c8f/xen tower 1.PNG https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/210412/a01ee191-e3fb-4c15-9541-b2a86d3a50d1/xen tower 2.PNG I'm going to take a guess and say that this is the Xen factory seen in the latter part of Interloper, and that that top floaty bit is the Nihilanth's island. I imagine that we'll spend most of Xen approaching it, sorta like the citadel towards the end of HL2. I'm loving the usage of color everywhere. One thing I really liked with Xen (across HL, BS, and OF) was color, skyboxes in particular.
Good observation, I know the developers wanted to give Xen a better sense of direction and eliminate a lot of the teleports, so having the "tower" as a clear objective to work toward definitely accomplishes that. And judging by the way it looks, it seems like the environmental design is going to get progressively more "organic" the closer to Nihilanth you get, which is pretty sweet.
Looks great. I'm assuming those houndeyes are explosive because they ate the explosive fruit-thing?
I also noticed there is no anus on that sack, does that mean no baby headcrabs?
That's honestly completely in-line with Half-Life era Valve designs.
Honestly one of the things I'm most excited about is having that sweet sweet couple of months where Black Mesa multiplayer isn't dead, it is so much fucking fun.
Honestly, I'm looking forward to this more than Xen. Going back and touching up the environments, fixing some QoL improvements, etc to the main part of the game would be amazing.
is this gonna be stuck onto the end of black mesa in an update or is it gonna be standalone? I prefer the former
It's just an update to BM as is.
I have to imagine the former, with an easy way to skip to xen on the main menu.
