So we're gonna make some Vortigaunt friends on Xen? Maybe we'll unite with the friendly Vortigaunts in the beginning?
Well, the Xen mine/factory seen in Interloper does have neutral Vortigaunts that only go hostile when there are Controllers nearby. I wouldn't be surprised if they helped Gordon with things such as charging his suit or giving him directions. They can't do much else at this point the way I see it, what with the language barrier still present this early during the Portal Storms. However, I feel like the lack of eyeglow still wouldn't be enough to indicate that the player doesn't have to guns blazing. Maybe there'll be a (cut)scene where the player can't attack the Vorts they see - for one reason or another - and see they're not attacking on-sight. Perhaps this'd give enough of a hint that you can just walk through.
I don't think 'friendly' Vorts aka Xen Barneys would be a good idea because for all they know, you are one man alien genocide army to them. Instead, if anything, they should approach you with either fear or opportunistic goal in mind. Watching you from unreachable spaces, hiding if you look directly at them, scurrying off if they see you approaching, maybe even forcibly make you walk the pathway to Nihilanth by obstructing other 'paths', using you as a means to an end. Even that is too much on the nose for me and I think simply neutral observants works the best.
i'm imagining a "cutscene" where you're in an area full of vorts already established earlier as not attacking you, when suddenly some controllers drop in and do something like the advisor's psychic effect, as all the vorts fall to their knees and clutch their heads as their eyes flare up and they're made hostile. something to try and establish that they're being controlled against their will without using any dialogue.
Makes me wonder, are they going to add in the teleportation scene to the bullsquid having its lunch?
Hopefully they can add some foreshadowing towards the redesigned Xen chapter, that would be cool!
I should get my vort sounds together for the new update. Gotta get GCFScape back, gotta make sure the files are still in the same place, and I still need to figure out how to use the workshop. I've been not doing it for years but now that Xen is coming I should probably do it.
I was always a little disappointed with how little rework the Vortigaunts got. Reusing their voice lines and same animations. I wouldn't mind seeing them reanimated to generally have a more hunched posture, and some additional noises.
It is better than them constantly spamming Gallalung every time they attacked in the mod version
I miss the classic vort voices. They sounded so alien and creepy to me in HL1 and in BM they are just kinda there
Rewatching this reminds me: is it commonly accepted that the reason the first xen cutscene is not present is because they hadn't even started xen at that point in development? That's what I've chosen to believe, and I've been under the assumption that the scene will be restored with their shiny new assets once the Xen update launches. I hope I'm right.
My god, every mod on the workshop I'm interested in has "this is broken" in the most recent comments. Is the workshop actually just filled with broken mods?
I think it’s actually Steam not putting the vpk files in the right place after downloading them. if you copy them from the steamapps\workshop folder to the bms\custom folder they should work fine.
If a mod goes further back than a year or so then it probably really is broken, though.
I feel the same to almost all the alien sounds. Wish gargantua and the giant tenticles sounded the same.

God I love seeing how mobile they are now. The way they jump around the environment makes me think of some of DOOM 16's monsters a little.

Nah, more likely that its just a hud info thing on how many jump boosts you can use before they recharge.
The Agrunt footage there is only one bar.
its probably upgradable so that theres stuff to collect in the new xen chapters besides re-acquiring the original weapons
Or maybe they decided to resurrect the original idea from HL1 of being able to overloading it if you use it too much, having to wait a little.
Finally, After since last major update that got several users like me have bug that flashlight mechanic won't function work but not flashlight sound.
