Welcome to the Half-life community my guy. Community activity around here is about what you'd expect considering we haven't had an official sequel in over a decade. Lets face it, there aren't a lot of newbies getting into the Half-life franchise, just a handful of veteran modders keeping the series on life support.
They said they don't plan on releasing anything until xen's out.
My pc gaming hobby only kicked off when I saw the first videos of Gmod on Youtube, bought HL2 and Counter Strike to be able to play it and after a while I actually played HL2 and it's episodes but left it at that.
Only played HL1 last week for the first time in my life.. honestly it's my favorite game I've ever played now.
Black Mesa was awesome as well, especially playing it right after finishing the original but I need that Xen fix!!
If you're just dipping your toes into half life 1 now and really enjoyed it, I really have to recommend you check out Half-Life: Echoes. I don't know how eager you are to jump into the ocean of half life mods, but Echoes is special in its quality compared to the original game.
I've read some reviews, here we go again I guess
Speaking of mods, I suggest Sweet Half-Life, Life's End, Azure Sheep, Point of View, and U.S.S Darkstar. They're all lengthy and pretty good mods, Point of View is unique since it lets you play as a Vortigaunt.
I get that there's delays and that sort of stuff, but it's not hard to just make a post maybe once a week stating progress, even if it's just a few sentences or a paragraph.
I'm starting to wonder where the enthusiasm for the impending release went, too. I would have hoped that they would become more talkative as we move forward into Q2, though knowing the team, there's a good chance that just means they're still hard at work.
I don't want to seem like a community that needs constant reassurance, but I'd love for @DIGITAL SPORTS to pop in again and confirm the release is still somewhat imminent. I really need to know when to start replaying black mesa so I can time my playthrough up with the release.
If they're still aiming for a Q2 release then I have a hunch we'll hear something from them around May 16.
After all the delays, including extreme delays after being assured that it will definitively NOT be delayed again (do or die etc), I'm content to operate on a "it'll be out when its out" basis. No sense getting enthused or hyped up for BM release dates at this point, they don't mean anything. Maybe it'll be out Q2 2019, maybe it'll be out Q2 2020, I'll just be happy to play it when it's done.
Same, we got again and again proofs that they aren't wasting time and their efforts are way worth it, so I'm not in a hurry. They might want to do a last art pass on all the game once they are done with Xen, as right now some areas are clearly seen more refined than others.
So what happens to CC when the game is done? Will they make efforts to do anything else with the game, e.g. a console port?
Source runs on the old nVidia Shields, so it can definitely run on the Switch at 720p30...
They should port it to Source 2! 10+ years for it to be ported!
Unity port, and call it Black Mesa: Unity like how it used to be called Black Mesa: Source
Let's not hope for a Unreal Engine port and EGS exclusivity
I think it's been said somewhere that the team planned to stick together for another game that would have nothing to do with HL, but I may be misremembering. Perhaps it was just fan hopes.
That'd be a pretty damn big flex on Epic's part.
It'd also be something Valve could shut down very very fast
"Some areas might get cleaned up a bit" according to @DIGITAL SPORTS .
First Levles of Black Mesa in Xen Quality
Echoes early part where it tries to be a horror game was a bit weak. I did like the rest though.
That was my favorite part, honestly. One of the only games to give a genuine horror aspect to the black mesa incident, even if it's just for a level or two.
I didn't feel an ounce of horror. I was more annoyed i couldn't shoot anything.
I thought that the tension of "oh fuck there's a zombie, when am I going to get a crowbar?" and the game kinda stringing you along farther without a weapon than most half-life mods typically do really added to the whole vibe, but it's clear we see the intention and effect of Echoes early game pretty differently.
Be honest kids, didn't Mister Friendly scare you when you knew he was there?
I dont know what you mean by this at all. It was painfully obvious that it didnt have AI. I was actually expecting it to be spooky too because the atmosphere was cool but it was just a goofy ass Mr. Friendly on a rail moving at you. Reminded me of those big cubes from the secretcity Sven Coop maps.
He was far more goofy than scary.
The scares from Echoes get me as much as many other scares from 90s shooters. They're all a bit corny and predictable at this point. I mean who didn't laugh when they saw that zombie holding the barrel?
But it went together with all the elements to make the most authentic-feeling half life fan experience I've ever played.
I laughed at the Mr. Friendly lunging at the zombie at 27:46

It's a pretty goofy looking enemy, it's walk animation is horrible, I can't take even remotely serious.
Worry not, it just hasn't been given the proper lore accurate appearance yet.
Mr Friendly in general is pretty narmy from how sensationalist its/his concept is.
