I have hope they will release it this decade though.
This century, for sure.
Back in September 2017 I saw this article and got the great idea to buy Black Mesa (had some extra cash) for an old friend and have it delivered to him on Christmas so we could both play the fully completed game at the same time. And then it got delayed again.

Some day I too hope to achieve zen.
The biggest argument against Xen is the platforming, at least from my understanding. I had no problem with it. I was too busy staring off into space (literally) and checking out all the cool skyboxes.
The only thing I found annoying about Xen was getting through the alien factory. Cramped design, everything looked the same and the enemy placements felt really cheap.
One of the most cited reasons for hating Xen was the sudden introduction of a new mechanic late in the game (the long-jump module) and low gravity. Low gravity markedly changes up the nature of jumping the player has grown accustomed to over the course of the game. While it makes sense from a story telling perspective, low grav basically made the player relearn everything they knew about basic jumping a momentum up to that point. Some people REALLY did not like that. Back in the day (pre-HL2) when people talked about hating Xen most often people were referring to the Factory area. The final platforming section of that area where you need to make your way up to a spinning teleporter near the top of a large room was widely agreed upon as the most annoying section in the whole game. Opinions on other areas of Xen vary wildly. Some people greatly enjoyed the areas after Gonarch's Lair but before the factory, others disliked the initial area but liked what came later, etc.
Xen and the art of long jumping
"Didn't take you for a zen guy."
i remember as a kid i would just sit in the healing pools for like 15 minutes each, just listening to that sweet aura sound
The healing pods in the factory are my safe space on Xen.
My favorite parts of Half-Life were actually explored more thoroughly in OpFor. The segments of Black Mesa that were taken over by Xen plant life were really cool to look at, and often changed the geometry of the level enough to make them a distinct gameplay location from regular ol' Black Mesa.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cIzJ-wtS94 It's a very soothing sound to me.
i also like to just spectate HL1 tentacles because they're so full of life and activity despite just idling with no enemy and nothing to do. And the cute singing. it's a shame BM tentacles will never be more than a static death trap

i wish headcrabs still did the HL1 thing where they would attach so tightly that you could see the outline of the zombie's skull, it was really freaky
I think you forgot to set it up to use the exponent "VertexLitGeneric" { "$baseTexture" "models\headcrab_classic\headcrab_classic" "$bumpmap" "models\headcrab_classic\headcrab_classic_normal" "$surfaceprop" "alienflesh" "$phong"     "1" "$phongexponent"   "35" "$phongboost"   "10" "$phongfresnelranges"   "[.5 .8 1]" } I'm fine with a static phong exponent, but if you want to go that route I'd recommend removing the texture for the sake of download size
that headcrab has a glossy finish.
yo what is that crowbar

Welcome to the Half-life fandom my dude
We all know where our sick minds went... mine went here: https://youtu.be/aqRUjjuUl7U?t=65
Gordon Freeman with Duke Nukem's voice works remarkably well. I always imagined him to be at least a little bit sociopathic.
Can't wait 'til Ross gets his apartment situation sorted out, I'd love to see what he has in mind for the next episode of FM2.
