Did anyone ever make a better shotgun for this? It's the only weapon model I despise. It's so ugly. I mean I suppose I can wait for the classic weapons pack but man, the regular shotgun is an absolute eyesore.
I'm having some technical difficulties porting Liz's bullsquid model. I'm currently using Blender Source Tools for this.

For some reason the bones keep stretching all over the place. I think this is probably an animation issue, as most of the bones snap back into place when the physics tab is selected, as shown below:

Porting the default BMS bullsquid into Blender and then exporting it without any modifications produces similar results for some reason.
Here are my settings:

Does anyone know how to fix this mess? I wanted to port an abomination, not an eldritch abomination.
I believe is an issue with the export SMD option as it kept rotating/moving random bones of my models, you will have to try with another tool like 3DS Max or Milkshape.

Please tell me these updates mean Xen is releasing before the end of the year. That would be the best Christmas gift I've received in years.
it's do or die
It's still very impressive that this was all done on the source engine.
Friendly reminder that Titanfall 2 is on the Source engine, all be it, modified with some fancy new additions like PBR.
Never doubt the versatility of a game engine when its put in creative hands.
That engine was pretty much gutted.
I really hope they keep using it rather than frostbite.
Going forward? I thought EA assasinated Respawn by forcing TFall2 to come out alongside some other big game.
not assassinated, but assimilated. They're working on a star wars game now, and if that flops I'm sure they'll be in the ditch with the other dead studios shortly after.
I honestly doubt they can, as they would likely still need to renew a license agreement for Source, which Valve no longer does.
Valve "stopped licensing" Source before the first Titanfall was even a thing. Big companies get a different deal when operating with Valve. Same reason indie studios get almost no actual support when getting their games on Steam.
Big studios probably get virtually no support too.
Difference is big studios have programmers that can get shit in order.
The Black Mesa scientists put up those lights and contraptions.
i think it would be perfect if the colors were just a tad weirder. like if the water and light shafts were purple or red, something really unearthly.
Pretty sure it's just the scene. Look at this above ground shot

your brain can go choke on this
Plus they said there will be several different types of environments in their Xen.
I hope there are green environments in there too. Xen is green.
Literally says this in the blog people are quoting:
"For the first map of Xen, we wanted to capture the desolate feeling of the original HL1 map, while putting our own spin on it. In the original, the desolation of the outer islands gave way to more life as you accessed the interior of the level, which was a theme we expanded on across multiple maps. Our version of the badlands is rocky, with patches of water and arid plants, but no soil for true, vibrant Xenian life to grow. This is the first of the multiple biomes that players will progress through in the Xen chapter. "
I just hope they kept that weird red airvent from Interloper. It was a nice place for a breather.
I really really want to see that cool place with the giant teleporter to Nihlanths chamber. It's one of my favourite places in Half Life tbh
I'm honestly hoping they didn't try to pretty up the sky box there and it's still just a featureless black void.

The featureless void with the ghostly loop of voices was perfect, they can't change it. Xen felt like you fell into an Alien dimension, but that place just felt like a real void, like you were no longer in any location, you were just nowhere. But the "steps" leading up to that glowing red portal and the intimidating structure around it communicated very clearly that there was only one way forward, and you were about to find something big.
Yeah easily one of the best places in Half-Life.

They really just gotta copy what Xen did for the buildup to the conclusion because it was so well done. You're in a big ass room in a difficult fight, yet it still feels like just another encounter. Then bam, your silly ass is just dumped in a black void with nothing but a path to some crazy shit and silence. Its so unceremonious and sudden that it hits you harder than practically any other moment in the game. Imo that black void room before the nihilanth is easily one of the best parts in the entirety of HL1
also I really hope xen is balanced just as chaotically and poorly as it was in HL1. I think it gave xen a more proper feeling of being an alien world, and you were never meant to be there. I love the curveball of going from obviously placed and proper distribution of guns/ammo/armor to just having a bunch of rockets and other explosives and maybe a medkit or 2 shoved in a corner of a mess of a map with a dead guy.
They said years ago that Xen isn't going to be a 1:1 recreation, heck even the rest of the game isn't. But Xen especially was always considered a weak point of the game.
