I'm sure everybody who posts here and their mother has seen this by now, but here's the first glimpse of how Sonic will look in the movie. It's... not good. https://twitter.com/IGN/status/1072121573371510786

"Sonics arms are not blue!"
Like, I know Hollywood is in a pathetic state right now, but why the fuck did they think it was a good idea to make the new Sonic film partly live-action with hideous-looking designs for the game's characters? Who is this trying to appeal to? Making it like this is just turning people off.
WHY, Its sort of ironic that the fucking fan movie got it better......
I bring you, OC meme pain. https://twitter.com/alpha00zero/status/1072244245459820544
Remember them Sonic Boom concept art and how Sonic Team managed to red light all the wild designs? Seems that their influences wane against Hollywood juggernauts.
Just my opinion of course, but to be honest creative as they were most of those early Sonic Boom designs were pretty bad.
SEGA basically just handed off the license, Paramount and the creatively bankrupt chucklefucks at Hollywood have free reign and SEGA's just been able to voice concerns. Part of the discussion of the teaser with IGN had them basically go, "We know SEGA's concerned about how we handled the eye changes and such, but I think we made a good compromise for the live-action setting." Now, SEGA may not be the best at decision making, sure, but if SEGA is concerned with your designs for their primary mascot, maybe you should heed them.
And they were shut down. Not this time, however, assuming that the fears are confirmed.
Oh, joy. Another poster for the movie. https://twitter.com/thatcubegamer/status/1072667153797648384?s=21

Apparently, a early poster was leaked and... he doesn't look THAT bad? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/420266980751179779/522794728966848525/FB_IMG_1544714314681.jpg But he still looks like a human. Like a very hairy, small child.
idk I think it must have changed a lot. The legs in that other poster are long and more human like
His eyes aren't linked together, his arms are blue. 0/10
it's fake
wtf he wear pants now
Remember when everyone though the Boom sonic was bad? I actually grew into most of the redesigns and didn't mind them at all. At least they retained most of his core features. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/554/fce8cdbe-4a6a-4cf8-8c10-f33fe2730c29/image.png
The Boom designs were actually done with a clear goal in mind. They wanted the characters to convey more of their personality and traits in their visual design. I think it was actually handled pretty well, and I think in Amy and even Knuckle's case they made the character better than the main games. Shame how it all turned out though.
It would be interesting to see them importing the good bits from Boom universe if they are somewhat thinking of abandoning it. But seeing how all Sonic IP are handled I just want them to make anything remotely good.
I actually really really like/liked the boom redesigns, even back when they were first revealed and it was in vogue to hate them. Way past cool better than the main series design where everybody looks more or less the same except with different colors.
Sonic Boom show is great, I enjoyed it more than I though I would. Sonic Boom games is hot garbage.
There is one thing the boom games do pretty well and I think they're animated the best out of any game in the franchise. The characters are so much more expressive and the animations take full advantage of their designs which ultimately sold me on them. I fucking love this part right here
The thing is that the main games have proven, ever since the days of Adventure and Heroes / Shadow, that they can exaggerate, stretch and squash character models. There's even the occasional moments of this with Unleashed through Generations, the lanky and simplistic designs of the cast mean you can get away with stretching their limbs without making it look abnormally weird. It's just Sonic Team's gotten lazy with pretty much everything and filled with almost entirely newer staff members at this point, and such exaggerated motions are usually left for either the Blur Studio CGI stuff that's damn well aces, or the occasional results or mid-game animation beyond the running stretching. Sonic Boom had like, one advantage, and that was being developed by ex-members who have done that sort of animation work before, which is one of the only decent accomplishments in the entirety of Rise of Lyric. There's a lot of untapped potential in the franchise, from the animation and art design, to gameplay and physics, to even characters. But as we all know, the only people willing to take the chance and tap into that potential are the people that aren't in charge of the series. And I sure as fuck ain't referring to Hollywood.
