I... don't hate it?
Let's face it, it could be worse. WAY worse.

the hips are giving me bad vibes in that desing.
I've been saying this to everyone I get the chance to over the last ~10 years at this point, but it genuinely is shocking that Sega has never once explored revisiting the Chao Garden as a mobile game.
They could relatively easily integrate it with other Sega games as time goes on and make it worth playing. They could even mimic a few features from Pokemon Go.
Chao Karate/Race and the GBA Tiny Chao Garden minigames would all be present by default. Karate/Race can be vs. CPUs or in local/online "ranked" matches. Similarly to Pokemon Go, there might be "Gym"-type areas that you can claim with your Chao.
Your GPS can be used to earn rings, but you can also play (future) Sonic games to transfer ring amounts to your garden as well as Sonic-themed items (i.e. a Sonic Boom-related title might give you a brown scarf like Sonic).
Playing other SEGA games can reward you with special items themed after those games.
You can find and catch animals in an overworld-type area akin to Pokemon Go using your rings. You can transfer animals with specialties to obtain more concentrated Chaos Drives at the cost of not receiving any animal-based body attributes (i.e. no tails, paws, ears, etc.).
Your alignment (Dark/Neutral/Hero) can be used to manipulate your Chao by acting with or against the alignment set. If you harass or annoy your Chao under the Hero alignment, they will gain Dark attributes, and vice versa. If you instead opt to be Neutral, you can harass your Chao to make it align itself toward the Dark side, but giving it excessive affection lets it come more over to Hero.
You would also be able to buy special fruit with rings that would give higher concentrations of Hero/Neutral/Dark attributes without making them lose affection for you.
I just really want them to do anything with the concept of Chao Gardens again and it feels like a Pokemon Go-esque way would be the best way to approach it.
there's probably a copyright reason why they can just revisit chao gardens in general other than SA 1&2.
That is damn impressive. Short of one or two things it feels 100% like Sonic 3.
I think some fans claim that the guy who made them, who carried his ideas and 'tech' from Nights into Dreams, left Sega and took the rights to that code with him or some shit, so outside of re-releases of those same games SEGA would have to redo it from scratch. And modern Sonic Team sure as shit isn't up to snuff for that.
But that's just unconfirmed rumors I see going around for years, nothing concrete.
How is sonic forces anyway?
got it on the swich but haven’t started it yet
How would I describe it.... 'lacking'? If the game is twice its length it would've been mediocre, but then it's not, pacing and plot feels half-baked.
I did kinda like the direction they were heading in terms of characters and tone.
Switch version is pretty awful in terms of framerates. Haven't tried it myself but I've heard it barely hits 30 fps.
its the "everything that was wrong until Generations and Mania came along" in one single package.

Also, someone’s making a pc version of the Tiny Chao Garden from the GBA games:

I forgot how cringe the usual panel Q&A can be sometimes.
Nonetheless there isn't much news outside of Team Sonic Racing (and a short) out of SXSW. Don't think the vid is up yet as of this post.
Oh yeah, forgot that was today. So, is the short related to that racing game, or is it something we should actually care about?
yeah it was a ~5min 2D animation for Team Sonic Racing. Its part 1 of a 2-part.
It should be mentioned that season 2 of the Sonic Boom TV show is now available to purchase digitally, as said at the SXSW panel.
No, it really is. I checked. Go buy it if you want. I recommend it-- season 2 is a step up with multi-part episodes, funny jokes, and a slight increase in visual quality.
my big brain was reading that as "the sonic 3 renders" and i was like
what
Can I just say I love seeing the characters so expressive like this? Sonic has such an expressive design I'm really happy they're finally using it to its fullest.
Since no one bothered to link them yet, here are the two other TSR-related videos from yesterday:

Music track for a Bingo Highway related track. Not too surprising since if I'm remembering correctly that was a stage in both All-Star Racing games.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyuunXb4gCc
A video showing off the customisation options in the game. Have to say I'm impressed, considering in the first ASR game I don't think there was any customisation options at all, and ASRT only had mods.
They seem to be pushing hard for the game, seeing it in this state bolsters my confidence that it will at minimum rival All Stars Transformed in terms of quality and fun.
Still wished it remained SEGA all stars tho.
yeah this latest showing has made me much more interested. hopefully we can at least get some other Sega characters as DLC later
I'm glad they kept the Flip system from SASRT, but i'm a bit scared of the team system.
I'm still upset they ditched the All Star part of it.
That video contains what I hitherto thought was impossible:
Sonic being cool in a non-cringy way.
The one thing putting me off this game is how many characters it has. 15 is like, extraordinarily low given how many characters there are in the Sonic universe alone. I really hope there's DLC later on.
for a racing game, 15 is a truckload of characters. combined with the amount of customization each car has, its bound to be a nightmare to the game's balance (if any) if they add more along the road.
Erm, have you seen a Mario Kart game?
What world are you living in where 15 characters in a big-name franchise game like Sonic in 2019 is considered a 'truckload'? This is literally the lowest amount of playable characters in a modern Sonic racing game to date. Sonic Riders had 16 characters in 2006, Zero Gravity had 18 in 2008, and Free Riders had 19 in 2010; S&ASR had 23 - 26 characters (depending on how you count exclusives and including DLC) in 2010, and All-Stars Racing Transformed had over 30 (including DLC and the platform exclusive characters) back in 2012.
you telling me we should aim to get gold sonic, gold pink amy and sonic wearing a bowtie as characters? what kind of weird timeline is this one where people wants more sonic friends in a sonic game.
how is exactly having more characters adding any more value to the game when the focus is on the cars?
I can understand the need for representation of other sega franchises, but it seems they're dead set on this being a sonic-only game unless mentioned otherwise.
yoooooo I really don't mind more characters like Babylon Rogues, Sticks even.
who the fuck is playing a sonic spinoff game for the cars
