Super Smash Bros. V8 - Everyone is here! Except that one character you like.

I missed that, good to have it.
Here is hoping we get a few unique team combo animations; I'd REALLY like the Mario Bros, or Fox and Falco, to aknowledge they won as a team. Or Samus and Ridley uncomfortable at being a winning team.
...
Awesome. Maybe now we can avoid things like this:

well, toon link has an entirely different bair/nair/fair, different back and forward throw, single-hit up smash and forward smash, a stall-then-fall dair, and is floatier. he's more of a campy, zoney fellow than young link
What would be nice if all THREE Links had different playstyles.
So, let's say... New Link is all about his remote bomb, with everything else revolving around that, Young Link has the lowest general knockback of all three, combined with favorable launch angles he's got an amazing combo game, and Toon Link is just full-on keep-away with the strongest bow/boomerang of the three, his fully-charged arrow becoming a ranged KO tool.
i'm sure that was the original intention. but since OG link has changed so much already, young link fills the niche of that classic melee link moveset. i'm personally thrilled at his conclusion, having loved playing young link in melee but never really getting into regular or toon link. it's amazing what a difference small changes can make
>I really didn’t want all of that careful planning to go to waste because somebody felt the need to boast about all of the work they did.
heh

anyone else notice how ikes portrait doesnt overlap with the HUD but literally everyone else's does?
If I had to guess, I'd imagine its because Ike's hair probably would have gotten cropped by the actual boundaries of the tilted square texture. The top of the other characters' heads are just below the top corner of those tilted squares (With Donkey Kong almost going over it from the looks of it)
I gotta stop opening this thread in class
Speaking as someone who played the hell out of Duck Hunt online in casuals and in For Glory Doubles, I really hope they give him a decent few buffs this time around. Extreme keep-away is all well and good, but he lacked both consistent gimping tools and a reliable on-stage KO move, mostly relegating him to either a supportive "mortar fire" role in doubles, or a vulture playstyle in FFA.
If I had to make any change to him, I'd make the knockback and launch angle from certain things like his gunman and clay pigeon completely fixed, so he can use them as combo starters. In addition, increase his run speed to at least 1.9 (up from 1.63) to allow him to actually capitalize on these opportunities more effectively.
These changes would let him confirm from range, dash in, and start chaining aerials much more easily. It'd also allow him to command much more space than in Smash4, using the can to deny one zone while using himself - the threat of his running grab or running SH aerials following hit confirm - to control even more.

A game simply can't handle this much fire.
IMO once you get past "Snake is back!" everyone else is an "oh, okay, nice."
Like, I'm not hype about Pichu being back but... Yeah I think it's really neat.
just as wil e. coyote can paint a flat tunnel on a wall realistic enough for his prey to inexplicably run through, so too can sakurai paint a flat ass to look round when viewed from dead-on
This truly is Smash Ultimate ❤️
My thinking at that moment was "If they brought Pichu back of all characters, they're dead serious about everyone meaning everyone"
Which, not to sound controversial or ungrateful but, I don't understand how it's that big of a deal?
We're bringing back Ice Climbers, Wolf, Young Link, Pichu, Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur. 7 Characters. Not a tiny number, but they're just... Bringing back characters that they cut, for whatever reason? Some of which (Pichu & Young Link, imo) weren't really interesting enough to miss.
Ice Climbers and Wolf returning is very nice, but Snake is the peak of "holy shit he's back," if not just for the circumstances of who he is. Once you get past Snake, saying "EVERYONE IS HERE" is kind of "I mean, sure, but Snake."
My view is usually "why cut characters in the first place," so to me, "everyone is here" is more of a return to what I'd expect rather than something so huge.
Like, I'm happy. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm glad we have a roster that's only getting bigger (even if only by a little bit more). I just don't think "EVERYONE IS HERE" is as big of a deal as most do, I guess.
I'll be honest, I was kinda expecting Cloud was going to be a one-off like how Snake was to a certain point (because of how Konami got since Brawl). Bayonetta I was confident she was going to return as she's pretty much a Nintendo character now.
I still can’t believe we live in a time where Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Pac-Man, Ryu and Cloud are all legitimately together in the same game.
meanwhile sony's own attempt at a Smash Bros knockoff (albeit as more of a real fighter in terms of mechanics) completely fell flat on its face and its attempts at third-party fighters were held in sour distaste both due to no attempts to really make the DmC Dante and Isaac from Dead Space meld well together at all with Sackboy and Parappa
Only thing we're missing to shaft Sony's Smash Bros knockoff even more is having Crash and Spyro in Smash.
Even if as DLC, they'd be neat. And Spyro coming to the Switch is an open secret anyway...
I've still got my fingers crossed for Doomguy.
*I* am crossing *my* fingers for the Postal Dude. Be very afraid, 'cause the angel of death is on his way.
Out of all the crossover characters we could get, Banjo & Kazooie have to be added into Smash this time around, it just seems like the perfect opportunity and time to do so.
Also speaking of Microsoft representation, why do people want Master Chief in Smash? He's never really been on a Nintendo console unless if you count his Minecraft skin and the cancelled Halo DS game. I get that he is an extremely iconic character, but personally it doesn't make sense to me.
