Super Smash Bros. V8 - Everyone is here! Except that one character you like.

One has to bear in mind that new games tend to use placeholder stuff in early development; Master Hand's showcase notably used Pat Cashman's dying sound, as were Makiko Ohmoto's Brawl sounds for Kirby.
Match was hilarious, YouTube comments were painful.
The voice for Ganondorf is his actual OG voice actor; but we have to consider it's been nearly 2 decades since his last foray as Ganondorf
You can still hear his voice shine through some of his hurt sound effects
Some standouts:
"Ganon only won because he used items, he sucked otherwise!"
"The Zelda player should be commended for refusing to use items!"
"The Zelda player put herself at a disadvantage, she should've taken every advantage given to her!"
"Why do they even have items on to muddy things up, we watch these videos to see how the characters themselves are updated!"
They're not a tournament, you clods!
People who complain about a game before they've even gotten their hands on it should be banned from ever playing it
And sadly even that wouldn't fix all of the toxicity surrounding Ultimate's exhibition footage so far
Toxicity and complaining are just a reality of Smash at this point. The playerbase is too fractured to not piss someone off with every decision made, probably even vehemently.
This isn't just a Smash thing, it's a competitive game thing.
This may be true, but I think it's also important to remember something through all this negativity and toxicity. The entire Smash Brothers community is united by one man's vision to create a fun and accessible fighting game. It doesn't matter if you're fond of Smash 64, have a Shine-boner for Melee, trip and fall for Brawl, or still play on the Wii U and 3ds for Smash 4. No matter which version is your favorite, you've all played a game where Masahiro Sakurai has poured his heart into making it the most fun he can for everyone. I think this passion is reciprocated by fans with the numerous amounts of fanart, videos, speculation, reactions and other types of fan content that have just expressed so much love for the games and the worlds they've created.
The Smash Dojo and it's successors are websites maintained by the developers that actually reveal interesting things about each game before it's release and led to many excited fans waiting overnight just for a character reveal! What other game series could do this but Smash? What other game series would put in the effort to do this other than Smash? I'm not trying to say Smash is god's gift to mankind, but it's clear that it is special. This sense of community that we all have in playing and talking about the game is something I feel Sakurai would want the community to be like, it doesn't matter how good/bad you are or how much you've played the games, all that matters is your love for them.
After Smash Ultimate, the series might essentially be a blank slate because of the possibility of Sakurai stepping down from directing the series. But because of his influence on these games, a community has grown that truly has a genuine appreciation for the game series they play and grow closer every day because of it.
So even throughout some of the more turbulent times where parts of the community act hatefully we will all eventually come together to settle our differences in the game series we all adore, Super Smaaaaaaaaash Brothers!

And I don't think he would want it any other way.
i will always have a shine boner and i will never be ashamed. melee is objectively dope to watch
I still miss the after-match bonus from 64 and Melee. And the dark menus were easier on the eyes (but uglier of course, and Sakurai's wife is the one doing the newer ones after all).
But I still hope we get a hybrid of Melee's adventure and Smash Run or something like that. And Classic PROPER, not the bullshit from Wii U.
since we are going to have to unlock so many characters, i wonder if they are going to completely cut having to fight the character before you unlock them?
i really hope not, but i wouldnt put it past them
I had a dream (nightmare?) where a bunch of desired characters were all confirmed as assist trophies. Ashley, King K. Rool, Bandana Dee, everyone. Just imagine the online outcry if so many characters were deconfirmed at once.
I feel like they would have been more forthcoming about it if that were the case. only working off assumptions here but I think "streamlining the conditions for unlocking fighters" (how it was translated in the e3 direct/presentation) means that you will probably have to do less matches to unlock people and that it'll be more rapid fire. that'd be okay I think!
I also would REALLY enjoy getting Jigglypuff for just beating classic, rather than as one of the final unlocks.
I love the idea that you're only gonna have the original Smash 64 roster to start, but be constantly unlocking people. I'm planning a big weekend when the game comes out for my friends to come down for the midnight launch and just smash all weekend long, so the idea that new characters will constantly be showing up sounds like a load of fun. It's like when you're having a party and only a few people are there at the beginning, but then more and more people show up as the night goes on, prompting repeated cries of "OOOOH SHIT, LOOK WHO'S HERE!"
It's a good feel.
I'll probably try to make launch day myself. I managed to for Brawl, but for both Smash 4 releases I didn't have the money to do it immediately at the time so I had to grab it a day or so later in both cases.
Got Brawl some weeks after it had been released, but both versions of 4 as they were released, down to getting 4 WiiU before said console.
Will probably get Ultimate alongside a Switch, but I still have plenty of Metroids left to play in my WiiU before burying it...
Tbh, I'd rather they be confirmed as assist trophies over not even acknowledging them.
(Like I get wanting them playable, but if it's the option of they get in as an assist or they don't get in at all, I'd take the former)
I don't get what the big deal is with Ashley as a Playable Character. I get wanting a witch character, but I don't feel WarioWare is a strong enough IP to warrant more than one fighter.
It's big in Japan
plus the lolicons
i dont really understand this mindset bcuz its pretty clear rep count has nothing to do with how "strong" an IP is. if that were the case, then donkey kong and kirby wouldn't still be stuck without any newcomers since brawl. and if kid icarus can get 2.5 reps then surely warioware can get 2
Wario Ware (and Wario Land) should incorporate Waluigi onto themselves. Then we'd get 2 birds with one stone.
I am curious from what franchise the song tonight is going to be from.
And then Hat Kid can be the designated loli representative.
Please do not do this
Wait wouldn't Inkling count for that
Honestly don't understand why they haven't done this
Seems like they're intentionally not doing it
Not even Sakamoto likes Waluigi
I feel like rep count should reflect how strong the IP is, especially when they're character-heavy games. It was always the case outside of Kid Icarus and clones.
I think Kirby and DK definitely deserve 4 characters each. They're IPs that consistently stay relevant, popular and well-received, and they both have 4 established playable characters, and that's without counting returning villains (K.Rool and Marx) and less established but still popular playable characters (Cranky, Funky, Adeleine).
also
Wario Land and WarioWare are pretty big, the way I see it they're way more popular and relevant than Star Fox and Kid Icarus. I think it's kind of baffling that Wario is the only character representing those two IPs.
Ashley is probably the most popular character in WarioWare after Wario, especially in Japan. She got Mii costumes in Smash 4 so Sakurai knows she's as wanted as Geno and K.Rool.
I personally group Rhythm Heaven with Wario IPs in my head because of how much they overlap in staff, humor and design. I'd rather get a Rhythm Heaven rep before Ashley, or possibly both.
If they add Ashley, I'd like to see a new WW assist trophy like Jimmy T dancing and accidentally hitting everyone.
Rhythm Heaven could get Wrestler Interview as an assist trophy, where she goes "Pose to the fans!" and then everyone is forced to taunt.
One thing I really want to see is Assist Trophies of the characters actually on the roster. Not only would it mean that you still have a chance of seeing that character in a match as an assist even if you didn't select as one of the fighters (which is otherwise an impossibility for playable characters), but it would mean that characters who currently are Assist Trophies aren't deconfirmed for later inclusion, even as DLC for the same installment.
