That song sounds great. Can't wait to never hear it because it'll probably be locked to Pac-Land.
This looks new.

He makes some valid criticisms of the game and goes into why it's still the best one.
I hope at least they will give us Pac-Maze in Ultimate, so we don't have to play on that horrible stage to listen to Namco music.
It's a shame they said they're not bringing back literally every stage like they are characters, especially considering they've got already got the vast majority of 'em in already. I would've loved to have all that previous content in one place; no Smash game has ever really done that before.
(And seriously, bring back Board the Platforms, ya bastards.)
I hope that they kinda just.. go crazy with Echo fighters if they're finally going to acknowledge them as just clones. Dark Samus????
I unironically want Funky Kong as an Echo Fighter. Just change his up B to be his surf board and disable the carrying mechanic in his grab.
Dry Bowser, Funky, Hilda, Dark Samus, Birdo(?), Galacta Knight, Ninten, Blood Falcon, Louie, Raiden/Liquid, Shadow, Isabelle, Medusa, Chrom, Octoling, Ms. Pac-Man, Zack, Jeanne, Ken, Proto Man/Bass, could probably do something with Shulk but a lot of candidates for his would probably constitute a spoiler...
...then he wouldn't be an echo fighter.
You could probably just make Funky Kong by adding a shit load of weird flourish to DK's regular attacks
Just now, I got a wild idea about how to integrate Chrom into Smash. Be wary, however, I didn't play any game of a Fire Emblem franchise, and thus don't know if shields exist in this franchise.
Just give Chrom a shield, and tie his arsenal to the breakable weapons system, just like with Robin's case. And make him actually use shield for a Shield command and some of his attacks(For example, you can make the final hit in Standard Attack combo a shield bash). Holding Shield button will degrade the shield and eventually break it, but Chrom won't get stunned if his shield breaks, he just loses shield(read further for what he loses along with his shield). If his falchion breaks, Chrom will pull out much weaker(but unbreakable) Bronze Sword, and if his shield breaks, he can't shield at all, or use shield-bash attacks! Of course, his armaments will recover with time, just like in Robin's case.
I'll be honest. I was okay with having a unique fighter from FE as a newcomer originally.
I really don't want another FE rep. When your series has as many fighters as fucking POKEMON, and isn't even close to its popularity, I think it might be time to give other franchises a shot.
He'd already be more unique than Lucina who's a confirmed Echo Fighter so yeah he would be
Unless you mean the surfboard changes him too much
yes hes saying having entirely different moves will make you not an echo fighter. pichu and dr. mario make this pretty clear
Awakening is also grossly over-saturated at the current moment. It'd be a lot more acceptable to have 6 FE characters (or more) if half of them weren't from just the last two games in a two decade history, and it's particularly annoying to see yet another character from that already oversaturated time be proposed by people when Lyn and Hector are easily the most popular FE lords not in Smash, not to mention other more interesting choices like Sigurd on horseback, Caeda on a pegasus wielding a spear, Ephraim with a spear or Anna as a catch-all with a mixed moveset. Celica would also be nice.
Just . . . . not yet another swordsman with Falchion, please. He's probably going to get in anyway just because of the trailer joke instead of because of his actual qualities, which just makes it worse considering the above.
I think you guys are really overestimating who is going to be an echo fighter or not. Remember that echo fighter have 1:1 the same animations as their counter parts, taunts aside. Trying to make characters like Dark Samus or Funky who animate and even stand completely different than their "base versions" wouldn't work as echofighters.
Though characters like Hilda and Ms. Pacman would actually work because they are mostly the same as their "base versions" and would be able to translate better into an echofighter.
Doesn't Daisy have a much more peppy idle animation, suggesting that idle animations are not included in the 1:1 status?
I guess idle animation was the wrong word. Posture I think is more appropriate.
Trying to make Dark Samus into an EF of Samus wouldn't work because she animates nothing like Samus does (Samus is more controlled and Dark Samus is moves more erratically) and doesn't even fight anything like Samus from the games she's from. I mean just look how DS moves and fights in Smash 4, she is wild and spraying phazon everywhere.
Dark Samus would make more sense as her own character than an echo because of how actually different she is from Samus, despite her appearance. (Funnily enough, the SA-X would make more sense as an echo than Dark Samus because she literally is a 1:1 clone of Samus. )
I kind of take back what I said about Funky now that I think about it, and think he could actually work as an echo.
Samus barely even fights like she does in her own games to begin with, I wouldn't put it past them to make Dark Samus a Samus clone and people would prefer that to no Dark Samus to begin with, since a unique Dark Samus seems mostly out of the question barring an unusually high amount of catering to westerners, which hasn't been the case for any previous Smash.
I just think making Dark Samus into an echo of Samus wouldn't make sense since she's nothing like Samus besides general appearance. Playing Dark Samus as an echo of Samus wouldn't feel like I'm actually playing Dark Samus because of how different they are. It would just feel like I'm playing the Dark Samus color palette of Samus with slightly different properties.
It would be like if Ridley was an echo of Charizard. Sure they're both fire breathing dragons, but neither of them or alike in anyway besides that.
Daisy being an echo is fine because it still feels like you're playing as Daisy.
Dark Samus being an echo of Samus just wouldn't click. Have any of you wanting that actually SEEN how they fight?

I still say Dark Samus would work if we transferred Samus's P.E.D.-powered Hyper Mode abilities to Dark Samus, who is practically made of Phazon anyway. Pretty much all of the Hyper Mode stuff in Corruption was just juiced-up variants of your standard abilities at the cost of using HP as ammo, and I think that would perfectly fit in with the "same moveset, different attributes" philosophy that Sakurai seems to be taking with Echo Fighters. Give her basically a Pichu relationship to Samus's Pikachu, with stronger versions of Samus's moves that also damage herself - although we could potentially give her a Nosferatu-like leech-life ability in her grabs to help counterbalance that, due to what Hyper Grapple does in Corruption. Same animations, same frame data, but now with bright blue particle effects, higher offense values, and a self-damage flag.
While I admit it wouldn't take advantage of some of the truly unique abilities Dark Samus canonically has - like those Phazon tendrils or some of the crazier attacks she started using as the two of you kept getting into rematches - it'd be true enough to her character both in terms of the Phazon flavor and the entire plot point of "she's outright more powerful than Samus, but also far more unstable" that it would work. It's only further supported by the whole "use Hyper Mode too recklessly and you'll literally turn into another Dark Samus" that was an actual gameplay mechanic in Corruption, and how unlocking new Hyper Mode abilities was always triggered by your Phazon corruption level rising (a.k.a. becoming more like Dark Samus) after conquering a Leviathan. Hell, the whole purpose of the P.E.D. Suit was to help the Galactic Federation/Samus match the Space Pirates'/Dark Samus's Phazon-enhanced abilities in a less hazardous manner, so it's plausible that if Dark Samus stuck to Samus's fighting style, the Hyper Mode abilities are what she'd be using anyway.
Except that's a clone, not an Echo Fighter.
And if Dark Samus feels more like Dark Samus as an assist than as a character, there is something wrong there. Because they nailed it as an Assist.
However, I may expect to see Sylux in Smash if them turn out to be significant for Prime 4. After all, Dark Samus faded from existence in 2007.
Dark Samus also has the added appeal of being an actual Metroid, and that'd be neat to play as. And Metroid has, what, 3 assist trophies in 4?
Well what would you consider the difference, then? Is an Echo Fighter more or less like the template character than a clone?
Dr. Mario isn't one because he is a pre-Smash 4 character and already had a number. Dark Pit and Lucina were added as palette-swaps like Alph and only split off late in development, and were never considered "full" characters despite taking a character screen space.
Regardless, this is an argument we've had before and there isn't enough info either way to definitively say what constitutes Sakurai's criteria for an Echo Fighter, because we only have two veterans and one newcomer (the latter with limited gameplay info so far) to go off of and for the veteran Echo Fighters at least, we're not certain why they're classified that way compared to other veteran clones. You have your theory and I have mine, but neither of us know for sure yet.
I'm aware Dr. Mario was originally planned to be a costume in Smash 4 just like Lucina and Dark Pit, but those two were newcomers. Dr. Mario was already a Melee veteran. I could make the argument that the reason he's not an Echo Fighter and they are is because the team decided that the odd case with Smash 4's clones meaning that only characters that debuted in Smash 4 are eligible for retroactive Echo Fighter classification and anyone from an older game already has a number of their own, even if they could otherwise be called an Echo Fighter. Again, we don't know for sure; you can't outright discount my theory yet even if you find it implausible. We'll know in time.
why not dark meta knight, we got him as a dude in the new kirby update, why not in smash
