Super Smash Bros. V8 - Everyone is here! Except that one character you like.

the english localization is a super mario bros reference.
super mario bros
super smash bros (more than just mario)
you're giving too much thought to a japanese localization
Well, no, I mean why did the Japanese version even add the "Smash Bros." part at the end of the complete title they had already with "Nintendo All-Star Dairanto"?
It's likely referring to how they smashed several IPs into a single game. The west just slapped Super onto it because Nintendo had been already obsessed with adding the word Super to nearly everything, anyway.
What you should be asking is why they added "Nintendo All-Star" before Smash Bros.
"Dairanto Smash Brothers" is the main name of the franchise. Dairanto means a very big fight. Localized it becomes Super.
The prefix is basically saying "Nintendo's all-star characters in the super fight... Smash Brothers".
...which even becomes part of the trailer in Melee

Yes, I already mentioned how "Dairanto" can translate to "Battle Royale". But consider that there wasn't a franchise yet when SSB64 was made and given its original Japanese name. What makes you think that "Smash Bros." would be the so-called "core" of the name rather than "Nintendo All-Stars Dairanto"? Wouldn't it make sense to assume that the latter is the name they'd have originally come up with rather than the former?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the name itself, I just can't comprehend what kind of thought process could possibly have come up with the actual term "Smash Bros." for the title is all. Wish we could get a definite explanation from Sakurai like how he eventually explained that the Smash symbol means "four-player crossover".
The announcer yells SMASH BROTHERS as the logo appears in SSB64, it's pretty obvious that it's the core part of the name. The rest is just descriptive.
Bros. was probably always a reference to Mario Bros, being Nintendo's most established name it would make sense marketing wise to plug it in there.
Wasn't the "Smash" part a reference to Earthbound's critical hit effect?

Ah, could be.
Well I guess that means I have to hate it now.
Oh, don't be so uppity, I was making a joke at my own dang expense. Thought you would appreciate it.
Balloon knockback? Is that what they're calling the new knockback and how it like, starts out REALLY fast and slows down quickly?
Speaking of the Earthbound crit, I would love if they added the SMAAAASH sound effect to Ness's bat when he lands a fully charged smash attack with it
And maybe the text would pop up above him too
I mean it already appears when the Starman assist trophy lands an attack sometimes, I don't see why Ness or Lucas shouldn't have theirs.
You know, the more I think about it, the more it feels kinda unfortunate that Lucas doesn't get even a simplified version of Mother 3's rhythm mechanic
Like, any of his non-PSI attacks would gain a little bit of bonus damage if you evenly space them at the same tempo, until you change that tempo and it goes back to normal
I'm pretty sure it's actually when the Starman gets KOed.
I really hope they add Kumatora as an echo fighter for Lucas. And she swaps with Lucas in the final Smash while she's in play. Please Sakurai.
And if both are in play in the same match, Duster appears in Kumatora's, and Boney appears in Lucas'
Actually, you know what would be a cool change for Ness? Change his final smash to PK Rockin Ω
Exact same sounds and visual effect as in Earthbound
Honestly if I had to pick a third representative for Mother, I’d go with Ana from Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings.
https://wikibound.info/w/images/7/76/Ana.png
It’d be a good way of representing each game in the series, plus she’d be a better pick than, say, Ninten (who I would relegate to just being an alt. costume for Ness) since she’s the one who learns the same PSI attacks that Ness & Lucas use in Smash (including being able to achieve a one-hit K.O., which again, only Ness & Lucas can do in their respective installments).
I legitimately forgot they added that, whoops
Hey, speaking of echoes, they could always give F-Zero another rep with Black Shadow, now that Ganondorf is being made a little more distinct
Just make him play exactly like Melee Dorf
Not a bad idea. I would've said Blood Falcon, but we've already got him as a costume for Captain Falcon and I'm not really sure what we could do to make him distinct.
Considering how Falcon is basically the mascot of Smash, I think if they were to add another F-Zero character I'd want it to be a full character.
Uh... ?
I think he's referring to Captain Falcon having apparently been in Smash Bros. since its development as Dragon King: The Fighting Game.

Although not a big deal, this confirms that E3/the website launch didn't show all of the stages and that some of the presumed "missing stages" not shown at E3/on the website are still in.
I better get a stupid joke next direct that has the same scheme as the "Everyone is Here" trailer but it just shows stages followed by "Everystage is Here".
It'd be neat if they announced that they're brining back the Miiverse stage and made region-specific contests for drawings that would get added permanently to the stage.
Heck yeah. I was really hoping for Delfino since it isn't too oppressive for a traveling stage and I love Mario Sunshine.
Delfino is honestly one of my favorite stages in the game.
