There should be a change in the culture. Honestly, I think if TOs just got on stage and on the mic before they start top 48, top 8, etc. to remind people to be respectful it would do a lot. Like how cinemas tell you to silence or turn your phone off before the show. Maybe then MVD wouldn't pull his attention away from the set to tell the crowd to stop, and Captain Zach/Lima probably wouldn't dick around out of spite for the crowd.
Oh don't get me wrong, I was just going off of what I've heard from comps over the years in regards to "they're there to win" and such. I don't actually subscribe to that mindset myself. Again, I'm not big on comp stuff, everyone knows that, so I don't really have much to say on my own part either way, I'm just a bit surprised people are more mad at this than I thought they would be.
I know, but we're here already talking about a situation where the crowd disrespected the players, and the players disrespected the crowd. Sportsmanship and common courtesy already failed here. Even though it should be intuitive, when we're dealing with thousands of people in a single room together, it really can't hurt to remind people to be conscious of their behaviour.
I don't mind people playing Bayonetta in Smash 4, nor do I have any problem with people playing who they want in any fighting game. If you feel like you can play a character comfortably, or you think that a character is the best way to play the game, so be it. Even if people don't like that character. However; If you feel like the crowd is already against you during the most crucial event for a game, that is basically going to be the last one at an extremely important worldwide tournament, then please for the love of everyone, don't use that an excuse to mess around. Its not even like they were constantly taunting each other after each stock, or disrespecting each other throughout the set. They were literally playing around at certain points. And then to get mad at the end when the audience gave a reasonable negative reaction? It's worse that people are defending them too, with some of the lamest excuses being 'lol just mad cause they winners' and 'they were still doing their best though' and obviously 'but the crowd was being mean too'. Like this tweet, I love Keitaro but man this is a stupid ass comparison. https://twitter.com/KeitaroTime/status/1026173040999247872 The whole situation makes me glad Smash Ultimate is coming soon, not because Bayo is getting nerfed or whatever, but to at least give a fresh new start from that stain near the end of Smash 4's history.
Hm. Doing some searching around out of mild curiosity, looks like traditional FGC players are pretty pissed at Smash comps as well. I found this thread on SRK that's from the point I linked to onward got pretty angry.
Honestly i'm not surprised if some people are looking into collusion or accused them of it.
I don't think there was, personally, I think they just got fed up with the crowd. Again, not making any statements on whether they were right to do so, but I don't think it was out of collusion in any case.
Zero could saved us from this

ultimate can't come sooner
I remember him doing almost the exact same thing with Zero Suit Samus at Smash 4's pre-release tournament prior to E3 that year.
my tumblr feed is full of people saying that smash is a shit game and everyone who likes it are idiots, because of this shitty final match at evo that's very reasonable and totally not goofy at all
Well okay, Smash Direct this Wednesday. That's gonna be fun.
SMASH DIRECT ON WEDNESDAY MOTHERFUCKERS
oh god i've never been this hype about melee in a long time OH MY GOD LEFFEN DID IT BAH GAWD
𝐁 𝐈 𝐆 𝐁 𝐀 𝐍 𝐆 𝐋 𝐄 𝐅 𝐅 𝐄 𝐍
That was a pleasant surprise out of nowhere! I'm hyped!
I shrieked when I saw the news about the Smash Direct. It isn't too far out, either, so the wait should be completely manageable. I'm ready!
I really hope they decide to keep track of character winrates in online matches, and base character balance changes on that So, say, if Bayonetta has a 70% winrate (ludicrously high), they can watch various captured replays of her wins to determine WHY she wins so often, and alter it
Oh wow, there actually is a direct coming. E3 was like, a month ago, I sure wasn't expecting anything for like, another month.
I am surprised we are getting the Smash direct right now. I wasn't expecting a Smash focused one until October.
Gotta get that Hype Train though. Now they better talk about Single Player on this direct.
Watch them not announce any characters at all.
Here's half an hour of gameplay mechanics for no reason
I wouldn't care if it was just single player content being shown off.
Also more characters you want as playable, but as assist trophies!
yep, its them
Even that would be pretty nice for some people, since there were still a lot of unanswered questions as to how certain things work. For instance, we only know that the rage mechanic has been toned down because high-level players got their hands on it. What other big yet subtle changes are there?
I just want to see Young Link's final smash.
If there's one thing that really makes me hope they'll make Pichu, you know, a character this time, it's how much fun M2K has with him every chance he gets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEcQqOWWdbQ
