Super Smash Bros. V8 - Everyone is here! Except that one character you like.

Man, imagine if instead of slow reveals until launch, they host a direct at the start of December... And reveal the full 75 to 80 character roster in one go.
Maximum launch hype while also giving leakers the finger.

It's bizarre knowing this is the first thing we'll see ingame
If that's the case, then we'll definitely be unlocking characters at a breakneck pace
I'd rather keep some as a surprise, honestly. But given the leak-obsessive nature of everything and the visibility of news everywhere that's basically an impossibility.
i think 64 secret characters are also gonna be starters in ultimate
the direct didn't really make it clear but it did imply the opposite. I imagine the n64 unlockables are guaranteed to be the first ones you will unlock
just rewatched the direct and you guys are right: they initially show only the starting roster of smash 64 and even sakurai mentions it
Probably gonna do it chronologically, going through each game's starters and unlockables in turn before moving to the next game in the series, if they don't just stick to the numerical order entirely (with Echo Fighters coming with their originals). Although this would mean that Ultimate's own newcomers would be unlocked last, which would be a shame.
I know they would never do it, but it would be fun to have like, Super Smash Bros 64-style models for everyone, with certain characters like Cloud using models from their original games instead, and fun stuff like that.

Ridley is still up on Amazon, Wolf is gone.
the amiibos come out on the same day as the game... so amazon's gonna charge me over 92$ before tax on december 7th :V
I like how Inklings are all wibbly wobbly. I mean, it would be horrible if they looked any more realistic but it works as a cartoon squid-y thing.
Ultimate might possibly be the very last time we hear David Hayter voicing Snake for the rest of our lives, given how Konami discontinued the main series.
...and, of course, he goes out in a blaze of glory by narrating Codec calls about Wario using his farts to fly.
just as Kojima intended
he played the long cutscene game
I hope the Codec calls are back at least.
Imagine the Codec calls for all the new third parties too - especially Cloud, what with Snake and Cloud both being prominent Playstation characters.
Well everyone, including modders, always seem to interpret having to port the Popeye Lego Man world model, but yeah, I figure the battle model was the intent behind my idea.
didn't konami have him come back to voice a guest character snake for bomberman though
Let's get a three-way conversation between Snake's codec, the Starfox crew's calls, and the Kid Icarus cast's conversations.
And then they can all collectively shit on Chrom for not getting in again.
...and, of course, he goes out in a blaze of glory by narrating Codec calls about Wario using his farts to fly glorified Bomberman costume cameos.
Snake: "Otacon! It's-!"
Otacon: "How... How is this possible?"
Snake: "You know who that is, then?"
Otacon: "Wha... Well of course I do, Snake!"
Otacon: "I'm certain of it, that can't be anyone other than Cloud Strife!"
Otacon: "Cloud was destined to just be another soldier, bred and built for battle."
Otacon: "Not unlike someone else you know."
Snake: "You mean Raiden? Hmm... I guess they do have a lot in common."
Otacon: "It's been ages since I last saw Cloud. And here, of all places!"
Otacon: "The last time we crossed paths was all the way back on the-"
Snake: "Otacon, hold that thought! We can reminisce sometime later."
-END CALL-
Something tells me Chrom's going to be Ike's Echo Fighter this time. And that he'll be more than happy to rub it in Viridi's face.
Chrom as an echo fighter really doesn't make sense with his playstyle.
Not that I want a second Marth echo, but it'd only really make sense stylistically if he was based on Marth or Roy.
(Plus I am still hoping Hector is an Ike echo because the GBA games need more representation and Awakening has more than enough relative to the rest of it's series.)
Hector would fit better AND be a reverse Marth/Lucina.
Think about it. Ike's sword does all the damage along the blade so if Hector uses an axe, the head part could deal more damage.
Basically, Hector would be a "tipper" like Marth. I could see it work.
Or just give us Oswin. A heavy-armored knight beefcake with an actual tipper spear.

Speaking of clones, it doesn't seem that Icons is doing so hot at the moment:
https://twitter.com/NyxTheShield/status/1017952301066145792
What's that? Didn't know that it's out already in Early Access and has been for 3 days? That's just the powerful marketing prowess of a team with a $6 million dollar budget and arbitrarily locking it to North America, only.
It's got such great features as:
-Loot crates
-Content in the crates includes playable characters and literally-functionless filler that is most closely comparable to trophies
-Locking 4 out of 7 characters behind either a $25 paywall or grinding for hundreds of hours if you don't want to play the 3 base characters (none of which are the not-Marth or duo tikis that people have favored the most). You can also pay $40 instead to get additional colors and some loot crates.
-Not releasing outside of NA for a while, because a global community is not a priority after years of development, apparently, and they estimate it will be months before EU gets servers
-No peer-to-peer gameplay online, meaning that using proxies isn't an option for those people even though this would have been an acceptable workaround for the above
-Requires you to log in online to play offline at all
The decisions in regards to the business model and usage of online are legitimately mind-boggling and are harming a game that already has issues on it's own merit, but apparently, it's more important to get that loot crate dosh rolling than allow people to easily play your game's character roster.
I'm glad games like Rivals of Aether and Slap City exist, Icons can fuck off.
Even if the game didn't have those terrible decisions, the fact that animates kinda janky and has abysmally dull character designs and art style would have sunk it anyway. It's as visually unappealing as it gets.
Apparently they got ex-Riot guys to do the character designs I believe because I guess they figured it'd have mass-appeal or something, but I can't believe that in three years of development nobody sat down and said "hey maybe our character designs are fucking lame".
Anyone who hasn't should try out Slap City. Its got jank reminiscent of 64, and is a lot of fun.
