That's what happens when you actually have to try to create a game instead of just fiddling around with someone else's completed work and calling yourselves a dev team.
that's really disappointing. nah he's whining about project m again
That's not what I was saying. I'm not dismissing anything that isn't an official Smash game as a rip-off. Quite the contrary; I fully acknowledge that "platform fighter" has become a full-on genre and am glad to see more takes on the formula. I'm just saying that I always knew that Icons in particular was never gonna be good.
Fun fact most of the PM team wasn't even involved with Icon. In fact I'm pretty sure the only one who jumped to Wavedash Games was Strong Bad and a few artists.
I don't get the obsession with Chrom at all. I thought FE fans were often complaining about too much of Awakening/Fates representatives and IntSys cashing in on the Husbandos/Waifus. He doesn't need to be in. He's fine has Robin's FS. We already got 2 FE Awakening reps, we don't need a third one, especially not Chrom. We got Lucina, which is Chrom with tits... oh wait. Also, how would it be awkward? They both seem like fierce, strong archetype warriors with similar physique. I mean, look. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/4/41/460px-Ike_SSB4.png/revision/latest?cb=20160420215725 https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fireemblem/images/0/00/Fe7Hector.png/revision/latest?cb=20151014150233 They could totally make him work as an Echo of Ike since all his moves involve a slicing motion of sorts, which an axe can do no problem. There's even a few custom moves from Ike in SSB4 that could work for Hector. And they could make his FS call out Lyn and Eliwood and make them all chain critical attacks from the FE game. Make them have a cameo in his victory poses too. Like Chrom. Because we don't need him anywhere else but where he is. All comfy in Robin's company.
You keep implying that Icons was made solely from Project M developers, but it's far from it. Over it's timespan, Project M had over 5 dozen members working on it. Icons only has 4 of them: Strong Bad (game direction, although he is not the lead dev, an ex Electronic Arts mobile game employee is), Warchamp7 (PR), SilentD00m (animation, although it seems that most animations are not by him) and Llamajuice (stage modeler who was one of the last additions to Project M and provided the scene with Bowser's Castle, probably the best-looking stage PM put out) I've spoken to ex-PMDT members aside from them, and I can tell you two things are a fact: -The mod was never made out of spite of Nintendo, the vast majority were legitimately very passionate Nintendo fans that just wanted to make Smash content because modding allowed them to and a lot of them were very upset that they were forcibly disbanded. One even leaked the build with the incomplete newcomers just to make sure it'd actually see the light of the day partially and several others still make Smash content for Brawl mods and SSB4 mods. Do you think that PM has complex-to-code casual mods like Turbo or All-Star Vs. because they're competitive? Stamina mode having an option to allow you to wrap around the screen? Because I can tell you they were just made to be fun, just like most things in Smash -Modding a game does not mean that you hate the base game. Almost every game out there that can be modded is modded, and the Smash Bros series is no exception. It just took longer for more fleshed out mods of 64 and Melee to appear because of 64's compression algorithms and Melee's coding being very unfriendly to inject new information into because of it's rushed and strongly proprietary formatting nature compared to later games. It's not even known if we'll see mods of Melee that can provide new animations, let alone new characters, because of this. Stop treating Icons Combat Arena as some massive mightier-than-thou escapade by a bunch of passionate Nintendo fans just because less than 1/15th of the group that modded Brawl went on to work on it, or that making a mod is inherently bad and spiteful to the original developer. They chose to mod Brawl because it has great content and had the tools necessary, not because they hated it.
What is an Echo Fighter? (Fighter ε) Echo Fighters are a different way to play your favorite characters. Echo Fighters behave almost identically to their standard counterparts, however, each have one or two small changes to set them apart. Lucina, for example, has more consistent damage than Marth, but is otherwise functionally unchanged.
what i dont understand is people suggesting chrom be an echo fighter for ike... as if chrom isn't another falchion user and it would literally make no sense to use anyone as his primary other than marth. is chrom so weak hes gotta swing the falchion like ike's big ol sword
even though icons kinda sucks, thankfully the true project m successor SLAP CITY has come and blessed us all with it's presence. may all come to know it's loving embrace soon enough
I'm no Peach expert but from the trailer it looks like a lot of moves are multi-hit where as Peach's version is just 1 hit.
oh i honestly thought peach didn't have as much multi-hit stuff. rip
I didn't even mention comp, dude. Cool your jets.
Could even be her Side B having a different travel time. Maybe the order of her Side Smash (could be reversed or have different items), the strength of certain moves, etc.
her butt bounce sends people in a different direction, I think?
Maybe she can't float but has something else that's stronger, since only Peach is shown with the ability to float in previous games.
Maybe her turnip pull isn't RNG and is instead consistent.
do you know how counter strike got started
No, I'm an invalid. I thought it, Team Fortress, and DotA just appeared from thin air with no prior inspiration. As an ignorant casual, I also believe that video games work on magic and that plywood is really just compressed peanut butter.
I actually think this is the safest bet. Peach gets to float and Daisy either has some other recovery ability or has better attacks to make up for her weaker recovery.
I'm genuinely not trying to start something here by saying this, but I really don't think Sakurai cares...
No, what I meant was that I don't think he cares about what her current meta is. I don't think Nintendo put much more thought into Invitational reps than "oh hey, this guy's recognizable among comps". Judging from that article that Steel posted on the front page, I don't think Sakurai is really focusing on serious play so much as he's just making QoL changes that casuals and comps both like so far. Even I'm looking forward to stuff like the hybrid airdodge and that easier short-hop attack mechanic. You gotta realize this is that this is the only other time besides Brawl that Sakurai had a real budget (unlike SSB64), an actual decent length of time to develop the game (unlike Melee), and didn't have to split resources between two versions (unlike Smash 4), so there's gonna be a lot of changes that will have everyone going "oh hey, that's a good idea" simply because the devs have the opportunity to focus on polish rather than spreading themselves thin one way or another. As for Peach herself, her floating has been part of her flavor since SMB2a and has even been relevant as recently since 3D World. That's why she still has it in Smash. I could be proven wrong in time, but I'm just saying doing be surprised if they go, "Well, floating isn't really much of a Daisy thing so we'll give her another ability instead".
no need to be an ass
True, but he does use his sword now. It seems he's been decloned significantly in Ultimate.
Nah, Brawl came with an ini file with comments and everything so they just had to change like 5 numbers and it was good to go
Well of course, that was the entire development process from Melee's codebase to finished Brawl. Don't you know the story? Sakurai sat down at his computer one winter night, opened Meta.ini, and dropped the RealSmashGame value down to 0 while cranking the HeinousBetrayal value all the way up to 255. Then he spent the following two years cackling evilly from his Sak-Kave, purposely delaying each night's Dojo post longer and longer so we'd all not get enough sleep for school. It would make the sting of the final game so much more sweet to him after all those hours of rest we'd sacrificed, but fortunately, there was hope, as the Gamers would fire back with their own salvo of expertly hacking into the Stage Builder and reversing those two values, freeing the world from his tyranny. Little did they know, Sakurai had already hatched his next evil scheme for Smash 4: Operation DRK-P1T...
really hope echo fighters dont have a unique slot on the CSS it'd be much better if i were to select pit, and then press a certain button instead of selecting him and it brings up dark pit's slot on the side. i think that would just be a more neat way of going about it, especially considering how large the roster is going to be this time around....
I have way too much interest in Daisy for some reason. Her inclusion was really exciting for me.
There's actually one thing they could change with Daisy that'd be fairly comparable to Lucina, in that it's just a value change, but its impact is significant: Reduce her jump height, increase her horizontal movement speed. Daisy can still float like Peach, but she doesn't need to use it as much since she has an easier time closing in on opponents who are grounded or recovering, while Peach has an easier time air chasing with floating and higher jumps, but has to rely on her float footsie game to get in.
Wait a fucking minute. This is still unplayable in the EU? I've been following the game since its announcement, and received multiple beta keys by mail that basically said in small letters "if you are in the EU you're screwed bud". Mind you this has been going on for months, but the mails also gave a procedure for EU users that led absolutely fucking nowhere. Never even got a response. As time went by it became evident that the budget, marketing and direction taken by the game meant that something was or would be extremely amiss. I was waiting for the release to make myself a fair opinion of the game and IT'S STILL REGION LOCKED? WHAT??? And I've been hearing that they've made a lootbox fiasco only EA has the secret to, and that they actually have EA employees behind the game. What an utter and complete train wreck, I'm beyond tired of this game and I haven't even gotten the chance to play it. At this rate the game won't ever hit EU before it closes down.
