rammed two battlecruisers together with no simulation speed drop, on a locally hosted world
new update's pretty great
Damn, the dedicated server only uses 3 cores and requires at least 3.5ghz, and the server I have access too is only 2.4ghz, but has 24 cores
Just spent several hours with a couple of friends playing this. Went pretty great.
Had a wierd issue where a save corrupted so we lost about an hour of progress. Was like 70% through building a giant vehicle and lost it all, slightly annoying but we rebuilt it anyways. I think possibly our server host alt tabbed during a save, so it just constantly had 'already saving' message or something.
A few crashes from the host, possibly relating to filling hydrogen bottles? Nothing that hindered progress though, thanks to regular auto saves.
I finally got around to building something that's capable of flight and luckily it fits in the back hanger of the giant vehicle the others made, which was not planned at all. Tomorrow will be testing to see how far I can go/if it's space worthy. I may make a few tweaks to it though (another hydrogen tank/rear facing atmospheric thrusters)
Would've done it much sooner but I didn't realise that planet based platinum is super hard to find so you have to go hydrogen and go up and find some to mine from space. So happy to be playing this again, especially with it working at like 95%, no horrid netcode issues that I've noticed, we had about 5-6 players all doing stuff with no wierd rubber banding or wheels/pistons going apeshit.
YAY
I hope by new MacBook you’re referring to a MacBook Pro, because the plain Jane one will likely not run Space Engineers. You need a beefy graphics card and a really beefy CPU.
That thing is going to hit 100c and throttle to 2ghz every time you use it just to maintain 85-90c on the CPU
Someone finally did something I was hoping was possible for a long time now: Tunnelling through a planet and coming out the other side.

LCD's were a mistake.
I really suck at making hulls that are visually interesting without mods. Mods give me stuff to build around.

I just can't bring myself to waste space on vast empty chambers for the sake of getting an interesting hull shape.
This is probably way too late but shouldn't you only have maybe 5-10min lost? Think by default it saves multiple backup autosaves, so the last 6 saves before the most recent one should be in the backup folder.
So when are we getting a Facepunch server ?
Part of the bug causes autosaves to stop working. It seems like the first one corrupts and gets stuck in a 'trying to save' state where no more saves can be written to the file. If you don't notice until it's too late...goodbye progress
Here we go, spent the day trying to make something less boring

It's pretty formidable. Broadside rockets and lots of gatling guns. Has a pretty nice interior with lots of space, just need to find the energy to finish it.

I had originally intended to use only hydrogen thrusters -- but it was really tough (read: impossible) to get decent translation out of them without trashing the ship's lines, so I buried a 3 axis gravity drive (WSAD controlled) in an armored shell in the center of the ship. State of the art!
just building an underground hangar, nothing weird here.

I'm pretty surprised how well this works, using rotors and stuff.
I'm sure it could be made in a way that works better, but this works pretty well for me.
If you don't turn this into a fucking SWAT Kats launch bay then I'm going to be very saddened
Sorry to double dip but I finished the interior and fixed a couple bits of the exterior. Also fine tuned the gravity drive. It's still finicky but it's pretty powerful, I can change directions fast enough to dodge missiles so that's pretty good. Just an album so it doesn't blow up huge, interior pics are in there if anyone wants to see.

I think it's done, I'm pretty proud of it.
that looks nuts, programming or timers?
Programming, couldn't figure it out with timers, my brain stopped working after a point
It's really fun, can't wait to use it in MP.
I haven't played this game in almost a year, seems like now is the time to hop back in
devs still haven't fixed the fucking light offsets resetting every time a server or blueprint is loaded - has no-one notified them of it?
Most impressive thing I've seen so far is 40 people flying in Mk1 Vipers from earth to space with 1.0 server sim speed
is there a fucking bug where medical rooms stop refilling oxygen and hydrogen when an oxygen tank is filled
it's so infuriating it makes me want to pull my own eyeballs out, why does this happen
Our V2 underground base, first one was on a poopy laggy server.
Sadly no missile bays yet, currently trying to build an elevator that'll go about 1500m up inside the mountain we're building in.

I've had this game sitting in my library for years without trying it. I've got some questions for y'all:
Does spending time designing a large/cool-looking/sensibly-shaped ship hull carry any advantage beyond looks? For example, is there any point in terms of structural integrity? Does thruster angular force depend on its distance from mass center? Are there large modules that require a large platform to house them?
Multiplayer was unplayable last time I checked (on older hardware, though). Would the game, with all features, be playable now on a local network on a listen server or a moderately equipped dedicated?
I mean, you don't want to design your ships with really thin bits because they can still break off easy. Thruster placement and weapon placement is still important though, so it's still better to build something that isn't a Borg Cube.
No, thrusters are still magical and always act through the centre of gravity - there is a realistic thrusters mod, if you want.
The Hyperdrive, Refinery and a few other modules (from my knowledge) require a bit of room to house them in.
There was just a huge multiplayer update that made it go from barely tolerable to pretty damn good. It should be easily possible to play the game now on what you've described, although dedicated is always better. For examples of what it can do now, see the 'BSG Dream' post I made earlier on this page.

Terrestrial hydrogen mining outpost I'm working on. Features autodocking for hydrogen haulers.
Its been years since I last played this game, I think its time I get back into it. Planets certainly didn't exist back then, so I have to ask: can you mine them dry? And how do megastructures work now? Less laggy I hope
Last thing I was working on years ago for reference when I mean megastructure ships:

Last pic is from inside it. It *could* move, but saying it was laggy and hard to control is putting it lightly
Doesn't hurt to try again now, things seem a lot more stable than it was a year ago.
If anyone's any good at scripting hit me up, I need help building a laser antenna based following script for train carriages.

Thanks, I'll probably check it out again.
The aforementioned risk of things breaking off has more to do with accidents and combat as opposed to structural integrity during "normal" use? The root of my concerns is my time playing Empyrion. There was not much point in spending hours painstakingly designing good-looking large ships block by block since there were few interesting things you could use the space for beyond decoration. You'd get better result just slapping together the 4-5 modules required to make a flying ship on a cockpit and save weight, bulk, and time.
Would you say SE may be more rewarding in this regard?
