I don't remember what interview it was, but Nogami invisions a world where the Octopi and Squids live in harmony, but doesn't think the Salmonids are included.

I think that'd be weird as hell given the fact that the lore is already steeped in imperialism, prejudice, and war, and the Salmon Run mode is literally about an opportunistic CEO recruiting children to fight in a genocidal campaign against creatures defending their home and their young.

For God's sake, the game itself calls it sketchy.

Didn't one of the sunken scrolls indicate that salmonids will bring ragnarok and destroy everything or something like that, and that is why they must be kept at bay?

There's also stuff in the Salmonid Field Guide that says they inhabit restricted ocean zones, unauthorized contact is strictly prohibited by law, and cities without long-range ink attacks would fall before the fury of their rushes. Their society is also incredibly militaristic and aggressive in their conflicts.

I doubt they'd want to play nice with the Inklings and Octarians. If anything, they'd burn Inkpolis to the ground if given the chance.

I love seeing how games develop from concept to a final product, and it amazes me how open Nintendo's been about Splatoons development. You can even see them using a Mario 3d World map as a placeholder in the bit where Miyamoto's playing.

Look at all those lovely gear sets. They'll announce the winning set in March, and it will be added to the game in May. I'm hoping that the West will get access to it, but with all the gear only the Japanese get with special codes, it throws doubt in there.
