Are all splatfests normally this stupid?

New splatfest art, and I have no idea what they're trying to say.

I'm going for Fork probably, but that Marina art is great
Did Pearl steal one of Marina's crop tops?
Not really a spoiler, since the time has long since past, but I will regret posting this if they end up adding them.

That mask is fucked
is it true that now you'll need to pay to get online and play this game even if you already owned it?
As of next month, yes.
I might end up buying the online, but getting a few friends together and splitting the cost of a family plan is also an option I believe.

I can't help but feel they didn't think the splatfest titles all the way through.
how long do splatfests normally run for? is it a one day all day thing or does it go on over the weekend?
Exactly 24 hours. So from this post like 12 hours and a bit left to complete it.
Could these colors be any more paler unless you're on the shifty map
Well I just got "This connection is unstable/a communication error has occurred" 5 matches in a row, and my internet is otherwise fine, so I guess I'm done for the day.
Can't wait to have the privilege of paying for this "quality" service.
I don't think I'm gonna make Spoon King tonight cause I get a good 4-5 matches in before everyone turns into an absolutely colossal steamroll
win 3, lose 10
Shamelessly went for Pearl just to get this one over with

Yeah I went with fork just because I knew it would win. Didn't really have a preference either way and I didn't want to lose 3 splatfests in a row.
The dialogue for the results made me feel guilty though. Poor Marina
Honestly, I expected fork to be more popular. I generally use forks more often than I do spoons.
Here's the unused dialog if Marina won

I went with fork cuz there's kind of more you can eat with a fork than a spoon.
Dumb choice tho.
I pick spoon cause I like Marina better and I'm tired of the "mayo lol" meme power Pearl has
But I managed to make Spoon King before the night ended so that's nice
almost everything you need a fork to eat you can use chopsticks for, spoon has more unique uses.
I picked fork because I guessed (correctly) that it would be the less popular choice. And lately, the team that wins the popularity contest seems to get the shaft in skill allocation.
Making a choice on such cynical terms sucks the fun out of the "x vs y" competitive angle.
I disagree when people say the Splatoon 1 scoring system was better but I don't think the one we have now is great either, Ideally, you'd consider the current scores and average them instead of counting imo,.
Team wins and solo wins, tiebreaker is popularity. Seems reasonable enough to me.
has any splatfest ever ended with one girl taking solo and the other taking team? I feel its always 2-1 with Pearl taking both solo and team wins and Marina taking popularity.
Honestly it's hard to find an even ground with splatfests. The more popular team will have more "bad" players and more chances of mirror matches, meaning the better players are less likely to win in matches that impact the ratings.
Also, the cake vs ice-cream, scifi vs fantasy, money vs love, front vs back tp, warm vs cold breakfasts, film vs book and 5 japanese splatfests were split between solo and team wins, being the ones where the more popular team won (not counting the few where all three areas were won by a single team).
