Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place.
So for a while I've been trying to get a mod idea off the ground and I already know how to do some of the work (IE Mapping, SWEPS etc.) but I really have 0 clue on how to get the mod in the first place. Sure you might say to 'look it up' or something, but a large majority of the results use old software (Not reffering to the SDK). Also, if this gets more attention I might need some play-testers, feel free to ask about more info regarding the mod.
Depends on what you have in mind. If it's in first person, you can't see yourself anyway so I suppose you mean having different arm models or something, that should be possible.
But your whole post is very vague, you need to give more details if you want some answers. This is a mod for Half-Life 1 or 2? Or just a general Source mod?
This mod is intended to be made for Half-Life 2 where you play as each species of Headcrab, traversing through many familiar and unfamiliar areas. I wan't to keep people from becoming a Zombie as that ruins the whole immersion of being a Headcrab, not because SWEP's are an issue.
And as you stated in your post, yes, there will be unique viewmodels for each of the species of Headcrabs.
Okay, that's way more complicated than your average Source mod.
Here's a crazy idea that could make things simpler: instead of having a small player, make your maps scaled up; like those "rat" maps for Counter-Strike. Otherwise it might require quite a bit of scripting and gameplay adjustments, this is probably easier.
Scaling up NPC's is harder than scaling the player, so I'll probably stick with that.
I recently wrote a script for Half-Life 1 to make it so you can view yoursef in first person, uparrow zooms in, downarrow zooms out,rightarrow turns the camera right and leftarrow turns the camera left. I could try helping you with the mod, although I am not experienced with CPP, it ftat is what you are plannng. I could give you the scripts if you want. If you want to use them, it might need to be a HL2DM based mod for the player models.
As nice as that sounds, I'm going to have to pass that up as its not entirely what I'm trying to accomplish. To recap, the Mod is supposed to let you play as each species of Headcrab, 1 chapter for each of them, with each viewmodel being different according to their species. I can't really implement your idea as I don't know where it could be used. You will also be unable to go in thirdperson as it ruins the immersion of being a Headcrab, think of the SWEP's to be similar to the GMOD ZS Headcrab SWEP's, with the forelimbs being the only new inclusion.
