you can also pick up a cheap used G27 or G25 they are better than the G29 (IMO!) while they arent that good for Forza Horizon or the likes you can now get into Assetto or DiRT Rally
owner of g27 here, got for 150 and was a good investment so i can vouch
The center axis of my G27 is pretty much dead. I need to turn 3-4cm before any game or software recognize it. Makes it terrible for F1 games when you're on high speed and need to make slight adjustments.
My brother drunkenly bought a Fanatec Formula Carbon so I got his G27 since he didn't need it. I have yet to set it up though.
yeah your FFB Gears are worn out then, only way to fix it would be to replace the gears but i dont think you can get them seperately
That is actually a pretty good idea. I can get those cheaper so if I do feel it isn’t really something I use a lot, at least I wouldn’t have spend a lot of money. Why would those not be good for Horizon 4 if I may ask? Something to do with the lack of buttons on the steering wheel?
It seems to me that most of the time when you start to oversteer in FH4 you need to immediately go to full lock to recover, there isn't much of an in between or exact angle to correct with like in race sims. It's still doable with a wheel but just nowhere near as effective as a controller.
Read upon it, seems like almost everyone with a wheel has that issue in FH4. I guess a thing like that would be patchable right?
Probably, but it's been an issue since at least FH3 so I wouldn't count on it being fixed soon.
wheel support is extremely rudimentary, the simcade driving physics dont help much either, ffb implementation is basic at best (mind im not expecting iracing or assetto tier ffb) wheels dont self center in oversteer at all, simply put the driving physics are the biggest factor that make it rather unenjoyable
Yeah that makes sense. Sucks though, because FH4 for me is more interesting just because of the setting. I like the open world instead of pure standard racetracks. Would be nice to have both the open world and great driving physics of sim games but oh well. Still, would it be too optimistic for me to think the developer could’ve spend just a little bit more time on just a working implementation of a wheel in FH4? I mean, I get the fanbase isn’t necessarily a hardcore simracer, but still, they are 4 games into a series
I use a G920 (same guts as the 27 and 29) with FH4 and it's fine, but you can't use the default FFB settings you gotta tweak and feel it out. For starters the 'damper' is set stupid fucking high, and the 'center spring' (it's not a spring) is set super low. So there's a heavy static force (that has nothing to do with the actual FFB) by default and you have to wrench the wheel like you have no power steering in an old boatmobile. I have it set up so that it's fun enough for me, but out of the box it's really bad. The driving feel is so much better in FH4 than FH3 but you'd never know it on the default settings, when I played the demo I was not impressed.
Raceroom's latest patch added singleplayer multiclass racing (very fun). With the amount of cars that are in Raceroom now, you can do all sorts of fun combinations. Georg Ortner, who works for Sector 3, was streaming it earlier. https://youtu.be/WCvSuvK9RfM
>not playing racing games with a controller
just wondering, is wheel support also fucked in Forza Motorsport as well? Or is that working properly? I bought a g27 today to see if I like it, otherwise I’ll just resell it.
FMs wheels support is lightyears ahead of FHs
oh damn i don't have the most current games, will carmageddon do? https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/950721532666580097/275D4D16B88909B884AB5B1F88E29E3CF1642B29/ https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/946217298759977866/BFC2C6591485F8170945CAE4E386020A6A2E1A18/ https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/946217391654204197/E0D438A9C06BC73F4F39D8FABCB14638C3836B29/
Don't you dare mock my boy Grandma Driving and his masterful keyboard work. Also wheels tend to be the better experience over controllers in most racing games, Horizon is just casual as fuck and designed for the xbox in mind.

The only game I play keyboard is Trackmania. I don't know how or why
If you want a compromise between a controller and a wheel, the motion sensor function (tilt to steer) on the DualShock 4 works... surprisingly well. It takes a while to get used to but actually is quite precise, and you don’t have to worry about setting up a wheel, pedals and shifter. Only problem is that eg PCars 2 seemingly has in-built minimum steering damping, so eg you could have steering damping set to 0 in the settings, but the on-screen wheel will have a bit of delay compared to your actual movements. However, that is an issue exclusive to PCars 2; doesn’t happen in other racing games.
I don't have alot of money to spend on shit, I just want force feedback, the logitech driving force GT should be good enough right?
Yeh if you're in a budget go for it
I've seen DFGTs and G27s on craigslist for under $100. If you can live without the clutch and H-shifter the DFGT is just fine.

Hows the new Forza expansion? Should I get it? Looks fun for only $17 or whatever it is
I used a DFGT for a good 4 years or so, it's a good wheel, only downside I would say is that it's quite loud
It's quite fun though there aren't a lot of roads in it comparatively (though the ones that are there are pretty good). Island is pretty, carlist is so-so (but subjective). You get quite a few mil credits throughout the island if that's what you want as well.
beat NFS:U for the first time today 😎 can't believe it took me pretty much a decade to do so :v that 7 lap "enduro" race can go screw itself GOD that was terrible
