Actually I should mention that at the moment I would be limited to an xbox controller, would that have an influence over which would be best for me?
You'll need to do a bit of axis setup for an Xbox controller to get the sensitivities right, but both PC2 and Assetto allow you to do that. PC2 is so close to being a good game, but I think there's enough frustrations in it that it's deterred any sort of real online community. Assetto is overall a better driving experience, so I'd have to go with that.

urd did hell of a job on this thing, cant wait for the M8 GTE
Yeah, they even got the buzzing noise from the air compressor for the gearbox actuator for when you downshift. Serious commitment to detail. Also plays well with the other GTEs in both AC and rF2.
to be fair, even the kunos r8 lms ultra and r8 lms 2016 have it without sound mods, some of the GTs are missing it though thats true
I have about 5 hours into Dirt Rally 2.0 and I think I already have a favorite car, the Mk2 escort is a blast to drive, opposite lock, screaming engines, tire spinning all the time blast.
I bought the car to do a daily challenge with, and only drove it in a rekkie to try out the tunning and some minor fiddling later, I was holding the throttle down blasting through the stage, doing scandinavian flicks and doing very irresponsible things in a car I just bought in a one shot challenger.

its getting an update with a better model soon, already spoke to arch and the physics might also be getting a little revamp so you actually have to blip for downshifts, its not easy to implement the way the skippy gearbox works into AC mainly cause its a dog box which doesnt autoclutch and AC only really has H Pattern or Double Clutch cars (sequential cars are counted as double clutch with an added clutch)
