Its a decent arcade game ruined by a shitty microtransaction, rng wheelspin card system that directly ties to performance. A gameplay mechanic tied directly to fucking rng with a paywall.
in my experience, the post-drama changes to the speedcards made it so that I never, ever had to buy packs to complete the story or even finish up builds. It's still a shitty, terrible system (I'm pretty much convinced that the cards are rigged considering the sheer number of repeats I kept getting) but I only ever had to grind cards to beat the story maybe once. Once you beat the story mode, though, there's not much keeping you there. The online is pretty much dead save for freeroam, and that's pretty skim on actual gameplay. Payback was two steps forward in terms of bringing back good stuff from previous NFS games such as vinyl customization (completely free, too) and having a mindless but delightfully goofy plot, but the monetization scheme basically got it review bombed at launch. It's much better now, and if you can pick it up for free on Origin Access, I reccomend doing so since you won't have to pay any more than your Origin subscription to have fun.
I got it for Christmas and I had a bit of fun but it didn't grip me to keep playing. The handling is servicable but not satisfying, performance customization is so incremental that you barely notice it. The visual customization is great, without it I think I would have dropped the game way sooner.

i thought the new horizon 4 update added a 12 race championsip, i cant see it
I literally jumped on the payback bandwagon because of my underglow fetish. The game is fine and I have around 60+ hours in the game, but it's just so dead and the game feels so isolated. Also bought the damn ultimate edition so I wouldn't miss any DLC but with EA they always have another card up their sleeve.
A small little thing which I only just noticed in GT Sport despite playing for a year: Often in actual motorsports, on the last lap and when the leading driver has a sizeable gap to second place, they’ll often pull to the side closest to the pit wall and slow down as they pass the control line for the last time; so they can wave to their team who are hanging over the pit wall and their team can wave back. I recently did a 30 lap endurance race in GT Sport and had a decent gap to second. I thought fuck it, the game is just going to give me some credits and that will be that, so I’ll pretend that I’m a real life driver just this one time. So I slowed down as I passed the control line on the last lap, and noticed that the pit crews (which normally just stand around in pit lane) were actually hanging over the pit wall and waving their arms in celebration. I never noticed that before, often because it all looks like a blur at speed. That’s crazy attention to detail.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gpcfmFT3jo Onrush is free for PS+ users this month. I played a few rounds online and it seems pretty fun. It's team based but you still progress through the levels as long as you perform well yourself so you aren't entirely brought down by trash teammates.
I've wanted to try this, just never got around to it, now I can, aswell as soma to be fair
I only played the Onrush beta for a short while, but honestly, it felt as much of a racing game as GTA V is a racing game; there’s more of an emphasis on the combat than the actual racing.
here!!
Bought the Classic car pack for R3E and I've been driving the DTM 1992 cars, it's such a fun series I can't get enough. The sounds and the agressive driving with the AI that can bang doors with you without being unfair makes for a fun time, the performance canyon between the merc, e30 and the V8 cars it's amazing how it's all somehow balanced and fun.

Rant time: I cannot wait for developers to get over this stupid trend of ‘force the player to start at the very back of the (20 car) grid, and require them to get to first place within a mere few laps, to progress through the game’. It is infuriating design and is absolutely insulting. One of two things is going to happen: either the AI is going to be dumb as dogshit and you’ll get to first place easy, so there’s literally no challenge, or the developers are going to seriously misjudge the player’s capabilities, and so you might start in 11th in a MiTo and be expected to overtake cars including an NSX and an A110 in only two laps. Not going to happen mate. It just reeks of lazy design in the AI programming. I don’t want to feel like a driving god; I want to feel that I earn my victories. It is not fun to be constantly crashing into the AI because the AI are so dumb that they go through corners 50km/h slower than you, nor when they drift all over the road on straights and your options to pass them are to either crash into them to push them off of the road or go off-road yourself to get around them. But the worst thing is that it reinforces the ‘win at all costs’ mentality that many players have when they race online. I don’t understand how Gran Turismo 3 can have a qualifying mode for races despite only having 6 car grids, but a game like GT Sport (with >20 car grids where you are often forced to start right at the back) only offers qualifying mode on some online races, and not at all against the AI.
Trend? It's been that way since I started playing racing games.
But it hasn’t always been like that. Yes you would start at the back of the grid by default in Gran Turismo 3, but in Gran Turismo mode you could qualify for a better position. And even if you didn’t qualify, ‘back of the grid’ was merely 6th place; 1st place is only a few seconds in front of you. Compare that to GT Sport where you often start 11th or 16th, which can be a literal minute behind 1st place. If it’s a six lap race, you’d be expected to be >10 seconds faster per lap than every other car, which is just complete bullshit. Older games like GT3 had you race against equals (more or less), but almost every newer game treats the player like they are some super special racing god, and the AI are just disposable bumper cars. It’s tiring.
It’s not so bad to overtake many cars if you’re doing eg a 30 lap endurance race. But starting at the back of the grid and having to climb to 1st within only a few laps, as is the case in many motorsport franchises these days, necessitates driving dirty to win. And then people take that behaviour with them when they race online. I suppose I’m more of a ‘long game’ player; I enjoy it more when games have qualifying modes, as well as championship systems where you can lose a race here and there but still win the championship overall. It’s just a more pleasant experience where you can enjoy the track and refine your driving technique without the stress of passing the entire field, as opposed to being required to brute force to victory. Yeah GT3 perhaps wasn’t the best example. It seems very hard to find a car that is perfectly balanced against the AI; if the car is marginally too fast, you’ll get to 1st by the end of the first lap easy. Otherwise, you’ll probably never get a podium. Still the best Gran Turismo game by far though
another trash shot i made lol https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4882/45392618915_a73b7f6e72_o.png
Was playing Project Cars 2 before on the Nurburgring, managed to hit a bump while accelerating in an old formula car so that I did a complete backflip I was fucking astounded

BallisticNG is finally released BallisticNG
I am trying to get back into racing games again, starting with Horizon 4. Would the Logitech G29 be a good wheel for pc? It seems to get good praise
The G29 is pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend using a wheel for Horizon. It was made with controller in mind and some otherwise undriveable car setups with a wheel become manageable with a controller.
I should clarify that I would also like to play other games with it like Assetto Corsa. What would these undeliverable situations be with a wheel? I’ve read that things like blipping the throttle actually kinda work so that’s nice
I just recently got a G29, it's very similar to the driving force gt but a lot quieter. I got it quite cheap though so there might be better value ones around.
I've had a G29 for about 6 months, it's a nice wheel and it's arguably the cheapest way to get 3 pedals + H-shifter. It's no T300, but the extra buttons come in handy

Yeah that's the thing, I've always liked racing games but haven't really played them for years. Just recently started again and that ''itch'' is there, I'm just afraid I'll use it a weekend and I'll never touch it again. They go for around 190 euro's new and about 150 used over here so
