"Prior to joining Valve, Jay ping-ponged around the industry working with very nice people on games that were worked very hard on and then shelved forever." Hmmm
maybe if you charge them head on like an idiot The Splendid Screen is if anything the better option due to the higher Charge rate, and higher charge rate means more mobility and more kills. Charge from the side, charge from places they don't expect you - you are a budget spy with massive mobility that can go for chain-kills with the Persian Persuader, even if you get hit and that can incredibly easily disengage when caught after a kill/ in general given just finding a medium ammo pack basically nets you a charge somewhat instantly Tide is obviously the other option but I prefer Splendid given the raw amount of power and consistency you have in charges
Ok, but can you trimp with the Splendid Screen on any map other than Degroot Keep?
yes, not as universally but yes

didn't you admit at some point you only play this on nocrit servers? obviously that makes the persian a straight upgrade there. at any rate we're still only discussing about the worst "subclass" in the game.
any easter eggs so far?
decals for radioactive waste? wow source 2 right there.
yeah there are some little easter eggs but nothing big
I used to - but given those servers died long ago for reasons already went over, even on servers with crits enabled that have good players on em(thg) it works, though, because why the fuck would I rely on crits - and even if Id just get a kill and then die because I cant charge outta there
Well, now we can safely say the comic won't be in an epistle form.
Wouldn't mind it if we got a TF2 campaign mode in Source 2.
I'd be more hyped for that than for Portal 2
Source 2 tf2 isn't that nice. They just ported a shitty brush based map over. I dunno why people are freaking out
Well aren't you just a ball of sunshine.
New content is new content. It's not like we have much to choose from. I prefer discussing this new map thing over the millionth random crit discussion.
Guess I'll post a couple of bootie ideas I've had laying around. These are pretty rough, more general concepts than anything else. A: Give the booties a new movement mechanic or other ability that synchronizes well with the charge, activated with special attack. The idea is to turn full demoknight from a knockoff spy to something with more depth, or at least give him something to do other than be useless when his charge is depleted and enemies are more than three feet away. I'm not sure what this could be, maybe a high jump to give him some vertical mobility? Or how about a directional leap like a weaker thermal thruster, to help him either stay in melee range with enemies, juke around during fights, or jump away and escape? If that pairs too well with stickybombs because of how well it keeps enemies at a distance, you could also add some sticky-specific downside like lower secondary ammo or something. There's a lot of options to what this could be, it doesn't have to be a straight movement ability. It's fun to say "we doomfist now" but you could also do something similar to that old Brawler class concept. B: Alternatively, cannibalize some or all of the stats from the Persian Persuader (either new or old), put them on the booties, and make the persuader do something else. Not only is what the persuader provides - making charge easier to come by - so essential to making melee-only demoknight work, but it's also a literal straight upgrade when you're running boots and shield, giving you very little reason to use other melees. Why don't we make persuader bootieknight the base bootieknight instead, letting you pick other melee weapons on top of that for a wider range of playstyles?
are you aware that the more a tech is developed and worked upon the more accesible it becomes over time? if a company has any interest and has the resources to invest in pushing VR as a new platform with money out of their own pockets thats valve, for sure. if VR was still held exclusively by Oculus we'd still have motion-sickness inducing headgears that go for $700. In any case, I can understand the frustration of not seeing that ammount of resources directed towards TF2, but to say that kind of shit comes off as a rather ignorance-fueled crybaby.
Cardboard VR is the future, man.
you realize VR maps are not directed toward the fanbase of the content that's used for the map, correct? lest you would see this on the blog.
Adding on to this, they changed the ITFSystem_440/GetWorldStatus API to add the following parameters (beta_stress_test_event_active is old): { "result": { "beta_stress_test_event_active": false, "event_match_group": "k_eTFMatchGroup_Invalid", "event_expire_time": 0, "active_client_version": 4620606 } } So the fact that this public-facing API returns this data indicates that they plan to use it.
The exciting part of source 2 TF2 is the potential new codebase and optimizations. Why the hell would I care about a VR demo just using TF2 assets?
It's not at the expense of those fans, either. If the VR development wasn't a thing those devs wouldn't be working on TF2, it's not happening in spite of TF2. Complaining about them working on something "out of reach to the majority" is silly, because there's more to the development of games and gaming-related tech than maintenance and shitting out updates. As painful as it is to not have much focus on something you're a fan of, there's every future benefit to focusing on long-shots like VR, and evidently most devs at Valve find that more important than maintaining a game like TF2. There's not much reason to complain about VR development.
when its taking 100% of the company's attention? hell yes there is
...It isn't taking 100% of the company's attention. They literally just released a steam client revamp as well as a (small) Tf2 update.
sorry then, 95%. You know perfectly what this meant.
Hot take: Take out random crits and replace them with the Quake Team Fortress Powerups that spawn at random locations throughout the map.
man why valve in this VR shit its not like the money is gonna used to develop TF2 or anything
they made a monopoly with digital game distribution , and with the money made from that monopoly they'll use it to make a monopoly on VR tech and games.
Because what validates a video game is its comp potential right.
