I would like to see the crossbow get reworked into applying a non-stacking regen buff (of the same healing total) instead of instant healing. It's not skilled or fun to shoot 150 hp at people stood still every second, and that's what the meta is like at the moment. It promotes passive play, whereas regen can promote active aggression, especially if you can apply it to full hp players. And it's less stupid when you're in a scout 1v1 and the safely out medic is just pure spamming in you're general direction and gets a lucky 150 heal or 80 damage on you which instantly wins the fight, because regen can be outdone, say I've hit a meatshot and the scout gets arrowed, I still have 1-2 shots to hit 100 before I lose the fight. The other scout tries desperately to jiggle as much as he can. It's way more interactive that way, in my opinion.
Medals are effortless to add so they'd still add them even when development stops, it might really be that there's some engine limits nearly met. What if medals were seperate items, but in the files one model with a bajillion seperate submodels, like how the bottle's broken and unbroken versions are part of the same file.
Soldier's first medal was bound to the player model as a subgroup. I wonder if that would've made a difference had they stuck with this method. Other than the player files being comically inflated to a thousand mbs each.
100% the latter. You remember around the time of the Blue Moon update when the item server was down for multiple days? One of the biggest lessons that Stock Fortress 2 taught was that the removal of the crossbow hugely slows down the speed of the game. I have never played a single game frame of competitive TF2, but I do read a fair amount of forum threads (/r/truetf2, tf.tv etc.) I saw multiple accounts from comp players describing how much more cautious and and passive they had to be pushing through chokes without the possibility of a healing arrow following them in. All 3 syringe guns need work. Stock is useless. The Blutsauger is good for being a goof and killing terrible pyros. It's arguably a straight downgrade the rest of the time. The Overdose was sort-of OK before they "rebalanced" it to make it +15/-15. TBH, the only way it will be viable is if it gives a passive speed boost (even if that includes a reduction in max HP similar to the Vita Saw.) The Crossbow is "stock" for a good reason. It fundamentally improves the game, at all levels from pants-on-head 32 player pubs to the highest levels of comp sixes. It also makes medic (the least rewarding and most frustrating class to play) a lot more fun. Solider, Demo and Sniper mains love to brag about their ability to predict enemy movement and land shots. Try predicting the the erratic movement of your idiot teammates and hitting them with an arcing projectile -- without the benefit of lag compensation. I say this as someone with nearly 800 hours as a pub med: do not fuck with the Crossbow. Balance around it. If it gets nerfed significantly, you can expect to see even fewer medics in pubs than you already do.
Crossbow barely arcs just fyi
This? https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Gentle_Manne%27s_Service_Medal how are the rest of the medals done that different from this one?
does it not strike to you as odd when claiming an entire class depends heavily on a single item and anyone playing said class without said item is just gonna get bored to death / game literally unplayable? that's alot of disregard to meds not running crossbow. Maybe the reason newer people don't play med is they're being told they're gonna get bored? I used to think the sheer surviving and ubercharges were fun enough to play the class.
Exactly how he said, the medal isn't a model that gets attached to the playermodel, it's a subgroup like the Soldier's helmet or Scout's dogtags
the service medal is a bodygroup on the default soldier model, while the rest of the medals are separate models like every other cosmetic
i feel like its worth mentioning that regardless of how anyone views the syringe guns at this point, the stock one is fuckin' scary in the hands of someone who has mastered the arc of the projectiles. -40 shots, relatively fast firing speed, all-at-once reload, wielded by a self-regenerating class the thing shreds people who weren't expecting the attack, or if the wielder is good at tracking and prediction
Uh.... The simple solution is to have ONE medal item with "Season 1-20" styles? That would save up so much space.
this is prob a extreme suggestion but how about homogenizing the medics guns so all syringe guns alt-fire shoot a "super needle" that is a inferior bolt that maybe costs half a clip and has no damage ramp-up but non-stock syringe guns have a different effect for their super needle varient, stock's is just a no ramp-up bolt, blut's apply a bleed and overdose's applys a mad milk effect. its difficult to balance around the crossbow because of how different it is from the other primary weapons syringe guns.
No, as everybody has mentioned in this thread the past 4 hours, the crossbow is difficult to balance around because it provides utility, ranged healing, and consistency, not because of "how different it is" The Gunboats are incredibly different from the Shotguns, same with the Banners, doesn't mean they are hard to balance solely because of that.
Calling it subgroups and not bodygroups probably was the source of my confusion. Anyway, little poll, do you think the sticky detonation bug delay will be fixed? Agree - this year Disagree - next year Funny - never
it'll get fixed the same as the rocketlauncher not responding when clicking mouse1 at a very specific time during reload (never)
where is the option for in 5 years like the gunslinger ones or for "repeatedly fixed but it still breaks"
Update on that fake TF2 item scam: Developers have found a way to mask the name and icon of the game the fake items are actually from, so there is now no feasible way to distinguish them from the real thing. And to make it even better, although Abstractism was taken down, more games like are suddenly popping up. There is salvation however, as somebody has already made a web browser plugin that detects and highlights these fake items within a trade: GitHub
Thanks, Valve!
If Valve wants to end support they should just come forward and tell us.
They can't outright end support for TF2 as that would bring the longevity of CSGO's and Dota 2's economies into question. This uncertainty would lower the value of items and therefore less money for Valve.
Well that's just too darn bad; if they didn't have the wherewithal to maintain a live service over a long period of time due to their absurd company culture, then they deserve to lose money.
Just getting the extreme speculation over the whole Medals thing out of the way now. Worst Case Scenario: Valve announces the end of Support for TF2, because they absolutely cannot add anything else to the game without completely fucking over the source engine. Best Case Scenario: Valve announces the public beta for TF2 Source 2, which would effectively rid the game of all of its current "engine limits" problems.
@The Jill , please, just tell us if you're working on anything major for TF2. You like the game, we like the game, you have the ability.
i'm morbidly curious what would happen if we go through all of august without a update.
Same thing that happened last year, people were a bit dissapointed and then moved on.
A bit late on the fake items thing, but I really wish in-game trading was still a thing. Yeah it was shit, being limited to only 8 items per trade made trading for rarer stuff take a lot longer and were riskier if they had the intention to scam you. But like now we have the steam trading, while convenient it also puts 10000+ other games tradable items thrown into the mix. Its a mess. I've been playing Warframe a shit ton recently and that game has in-game trading that isn't done via the crappy steam trading integration. Its faster and easier to use than the slow steam trading. I really wish in-game trading could just be updated and re-enabled to have more trade slots.
We’re going to warn our players, please make note of this anywhere people trade.
There's now warning pop ups if you trade items from a game you never played and if a game is new on Steam. We also started requiring approval for app name changes, and have more planned to address this sort of problem that we couldn't get done in one day. We are hopeful that having to dismiss two warning dialogs will be sufficient to make people think twice about trades containing forged items, but this is not the end of our response, and we'll continue to monitor, of course. source
I find it interesting that it's Drunken F00l posting about it. Still remember the Golden Wrench fiasco...
I mean, it makes sense. He's kind of the go-to guy about economy exploits...
