TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V8 - ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Heavy Update

I'd play tf2 more IF SV_PURE WAS SET TO 0.
I don't think Valve devs play the game with any mods, all of Jill's screenshots are with the default hud and 70 viewmodel FOV.
I’d prefer to by have furry porn sprays and swastikas slathered all over my tf2 experience.
That is the first thing people do with custom content, is find a way to be toxic with it. Besides, this game has enough art style breaking and ugly crap in it’s visuals anyway.
You can turn off sprays in your own console and I'd like to be able to use mods again without wondering if my game will crash.
You could just disable sprays yourself.
“Just ignore it bro” is not a legitimate game design solution that addresses toxicity.
People have proven over the last 10 years that the main use for sprays and user content is to pervert the game into something unrecognizably toxic and inconsistent.
This is not to say that what changing what *you* see is inherently bad- custom huds and crosshairs and whatnot are a big part of any online game.
But you can’t just enable these things and “hope” people do not abuse them, because they will, and they have, and as a result these things are gone. Case closed. Blame the toxic people, not valve.
Best option in my opinion is just give the player tools that revert things like decals and sprays to their default images.
In this case sprays would return to just being invisible.
It could be enabled by default to prevent newer players first experiences being that of porn sprays and swastika objectors.
Enable them but have them disabled by default, so that the only people who see them are those who are specifically looking to have them and know how to enable them.
Valve is just going add pals sprays as the only sprays that work on their servers. You all know they're never going back to the old days of anything goes on Valve servers.
A Valve employee has a few test groups on their profile, and one of them used this picture as a test announcement, and no one can figure out where this image is from.

Honestly I completely understand Valve's position with regards to sprays.
It's not really acceptable for a game developer to allow someone to just plaster furry porn on the walls inside official servers.
Like, that's just not going to be possible moving forward. Not for a game as visible as tf2. It's not happening.
Same with sv_pure; the fact that you can create any material file you want, you could make player models be treated as UI elements, and make legal wallhacks.
It could just be an art mockup.
What does that text even mean?
That's just Hokuto's Balloonicorn fan-art plastered on some asset flip it looks like:

Probably because that would be dangerous to the ears of everyone on the server
I've probably told this story before. A number of years ago I was on one of Lazy Purple's Silly Servers. The map was koth_airfield. I wasn't doing much, because I was waiting for a group of MvM players to get their shit together. I was just wandering around as medic, healing teammates who injured themselves doing stupid things. KOTH Airfield's mid is not very interesting. It's some red rocks, a point and buildings on either side. The blue base has a fairly large wall. It serves as a default spray location. The children (and LPS is full of children, many of whom have no idea who Lazy Purple, the man, is) were doing ...some kind of roleplaying. It involved a lot of squeaking over the mic and making a totem out of heavies. I looked behind them there was a spray of ...a dude eating shit out of a toilet. I'm old and have been on the internet for over 25 years at this point. In that time I've seen plenty of horrible things, from usenet binaries to stile project to 4chan. In spite of that, I momentarily felt my dinner coming back up. After a minute of regaining my sense of self and beating back the nausea it occurred to me, the children were completely oblivious to the shit eating spray directly behind them. They wanted to make a "hoovy tower" and scat porn didn't enter into their concerns in the slightest. I really do wonder about future generations. LPS has a plugin that shows the user name of the person who sprayed it. I reported it and his steam ID (via status in console) to an LPS admin who was on my friends list. I then exited the game and deleted the contents of Steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/materials/temp.
Yeah, it's a good idea Valve removed sprays from official servers.
If TF2 sprays have taught me anything, it's that there is a variety of furry porn in existence.
That was just some third party balloonicorn art.
Yeah, the reasoning behind blocked sprays goes back to when the game first launched. Team Roomba all the way back in 2007 showcased in one of their griefing videos ( this one in particular, bare in mind they actually censored it so it's safe to watch )back then putting up sprays for the sake of disgusting people.
The only way sprays would probably ever be allowed again is if either they only allow their own sprays on servers, or they go the route of paid sprays that people can buy like they did, or were going to do for CS:GO I believe? I forget if they ever went through with that honestly...
Or rather than fuel speculation, Valve could simply make a two or three sentence statement on the matter. Typing sentences seems to be hard for them, though.
I've noticed that the steam console displays some warnings related to tf2:
[S_API WARN] SetStat() failed, stat Demoman.accum.iBlastDamage does not exist - needs to be first configured on the Steamworks site
[S_API WARN] SetStat() failed, stat Demoman.max.iBlastDamage does not exist - needs to be first configured on the Steamworks site

[S_API WARN] SetStat() failed, stat tc_hydro.accum.iPlayTime does not exist - needs to be first configured on the Steamworks site
+57 additional stats related warnings
Are these warnings new? Any idea why valve might have stopped tracking these stats in particular?
I can't find them on steamdb either
Well, there's your medal update.
This. I haven't touched comp because I had such a bad experience when it was in Beta back when Meat Your Match was announced, but I'd gladly drop a few bucks on some sort of paid pass if it guaranteed me a keyless crate every level or so. I honestly feel like that carrot on a stick mentality was one of the reasons I sank so much time into Overwatch; the better I was, the quicker I'd level up, the sooner I'd get a lootbox. So I had incentive to keep playing and keep striving for something better, despite all of the numerous flaws inherent in that game in terms of balance and map design.
TF2 can easily stand tall on the stage (despite its age) if Valve would only give players some incentive to do something beyond casual.
Tonight is the night

There was a time when I'd all but quit TF2 and put all my time into Overwatch. Now it's getting to the point where I haven't touched OW since Jungle Inferno. OW is a fun game, but I'm realizing I only really flocked to it because it was clear Blizzard was going to support it when Valve was content to ignore TF2. Now the tables have turned, where OW is balanced to cater to the lowest common denominator and you can get banned for spamming voice lines or sprays in a threatening manner. It's like the Planet Fitness of class-based shooters. Meanwhile I can roll into TF2 with half a bag on, dominate someone, and leave them with a killcam of the Heavy literally pointing and laughing at them.
All it took was a single update for Valve to turn the tables in terms of which game is considered "dead". People are interested in what Valve has to sell, they just have to be willing to sell it in the first place.
A follow-up to my achievements/stats situation: they've returned without me having to go to Steam Support. I've got the impression it was related to the warning messages that zoox posted last page and that they might've been broken temporarily. Anyways, all is well.
Can't wait till eventually half of game's size will be useless medals
