TF2 General Chat and Speculation Station V8 - ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Heavy Update

I genuinely find it funny how Overwatch has already hit the "Only one good update a year" stage in its lifespan.
It probably didn't help that they set an early standard for "lootbox scummery > actual balance and gameplay fixes" before they even hit their first anniversary. I remember back when people were getting salty about the dance emotes being restricted to annual event lootboxes, I was pointing out how it took TF2 an entire decade to get to the shit-tier business model OW had coming right out of the gate
Only thing to blame is the players who don't have the sense to disable it.
What an awful attitude to have. It's not the fault of the people that abuse a feature or the company that allow the feature to be abused, it's the fault of the victims of the abused feature.
I wonder why TF2 doesn't have preset sprays like L4D2 did. There's a lot of stuff that could be made into premade sprays.
To my knowledge, TF2 is the only original Source game without preset sprays (so excluding GMod, which is in essence a Source mod).
If you have the ability to prevent any form of harassment, at a point it's up to you to use that. It's different once it starts to become more serious, but images in a video game that you can disable? Disable it. Same thing with someone being racist or insulting towards you in voice chat of a video game, just mute them and be done with it. You don't have any control over other people, so use the tools you have to prevent yourself being harassed if given them. It's not like sprays are 100% used for porn or gore, most i've seen in the 10+ years of playing the game haven't been and all my friends can say the same.
The closest thing was the engineer skin in paladins but tf2 didnt have a paladins item so it doesnt really count.
TF2 has always had that old-school shooter sense of humor about it. There's literally an achievement for dominating a player so hard that they ragequit. Everyone has different standards of what's "toxic", but things like taunts, sprays, and dominations were built into the game from the start.
When you accidentally suicide, the killfeed doesn't say "BootyLicker420 accidentally fell", it says "BootyLicker420 fell to a clumsy, painful death". When the Soldier dominates a Demoman, he doesn't say "haha gotcha that time, good effort though!", he says this:

If Valve really wanted to create a safe, non-toxic environment, they wouldn't put dominations in the killfeed (or anywhere, for that matter). Taunts like the Schaudenfreude wouldn't exist and things like Jarate wouldn't have made it past the conceptual stage.
Sprays were a feature from the very beginning and there was a built-in means of disabling them in order to curb trolling and toxicity. Hell, if it was really that offensive, you could block and report the player in question. There was literally no reason for Valve to remove sprays from their servers and it's not unreasonable for people to be annoyed at that decision. Especially since sprays definitely contributed to that sense of community in the game's early years, and that feeling has become harder and harder to come by now that Valve is all but determined to kill off community servers that aren't made for farming achievements and drops.
I don't want to come off like some boomer ranting about easily-triggered millennials, but it always baffled me that Valve chose to handicap their own servers when there was literally already a button that turns off sprays.
Calling sprays creative and customizing is a HUGE stretch. It's literally just an image you press a button to put in the game. The perpetrators need to take responsibility for their abuse. Comparing humans to a fire is an incredibly hackneyed comparison, a fire is something that acts without morals, emotions, intentions, or humanity. You can't comment on human nature if you don't understand human nature.
I just want to be able to spray hot girls on the wall and backstab people who look at them like the good ol days.
I'm definitely not opposed to sprays as a concept, having them is fun. I just think it's better to tell people to stop spraying bad things over telling people to just turn sprays off. Freedom of speech and such.
I doubt because theyre not accepting them so much as they've fallen out of the public eye
we had disgaea promos in 2016 and i wouldnt call disgaea a very high-profile title
I can, I have, and just did. It's a skin deep comparison only to say that if you don't learn from experience, it's then unto you for not solving said issue.
I used my art as a spray once too. Doesn't mean much. That's why art sites, art blogs, art accounts, and steam avatars exist. Shitty "explanation". You still aren't disproving the fact that it's just a square image that people abuse to show bad stuff to other players for no other reason than that they can. Graffiti is used as an artistic and creative medium, and is probably the closest real-life comparison you could make. Just like sprays, graffiti has its place. You don't tell people that see bad graffiti to "just don't look at it" and the problem's solved.
At this point I'm realizing the point I'm trying to make is getting muddied and that there's no actual solution to the "people use sprays to spray bad images" problem outside of outright removing sprays, so I have nothing else to say. A few rotten apples can spoil the bunch. If sprays are removed players will be able to cope, it's not like most people will miss the copious amounts of furry porn art, awful images like goatse, and unfunny memes.
There is a solution though. It's called turning off sprays client side.
And you still haven't disproved the fact that it's a method of customization and expressing one's self. You've yet to prove it's only for being a square image that people abuse to show bad stuff to other players for no other reason than that they can. (Btw, disabling sprays clientside fixes that, if were it the case.)
Even if you were 100% right on what you're saying, at the end of the day, you still can disable it client side, and have been able to do so for a long time.
There is no reason everything needs to be shut down just because a few people abuse it, especially when people already have the option to hide that abuse on their own accord.
make sprays an option, disabled by default. Veterans are happy, new players are happy, the weak-stomached weak-willed gaming media is happy. I don't see why this is an issue.
the "just disable sprays lol" argument doesnt work when you consider the new player experience of joining a pl_hoodoo server and seeing a furry dog getting raped
turn them off by default and youll probably be fine though
Having them off by default is definitely the best solution, but I was talking from the point of view of his experience. It's a perfectly sound argument when not talking about new players, which was the case.
Damn shame valve won't do that though.
weak willed gaming press and media tho. Only the baddest internet badasses don't want to be bombarded by furry rape porn and goatse whenever they join a TF2 server and walk out of spawn.
Valve hasn't changed TF2's default settings in years, and they are bloody awful. Even if sprays were re-enabled on Valve servers, the probability of Valve changing the default option for seeing them is nil. Remember these two videos?

They did change them a bit in Gun Mettle, like enabling autoreload by default.
Autoreload wasn't default already?
Can't remember a time where it wasn't...
Well, autoreload was default since 2015, 4 years already.
I'd still love to get a Quake grenade launcher reskin.
I think there was a skin for the Quake gl that also had the same sounds like it but too bad you cant use that on valve servers.
Thanks for the feedback.
Originally I wanted a big wrestling belt design with an eagle, but apparently eagles=nazis.
Oh also we actually got feedback from Eric on it. The first time since robot boogaloo.
Yeah I used to use it
I have to thank you for these vids... I was wondering why my game always felt laggy in matches. Turned out a few of my setting were higher then they out to be, which I promtly fixed in my autoexec folder and now those problems have literally disappeared. I was also not aware of the Sniper Rifle Fully Charge sound either.
bad model, bad sounds, unnecessary custom projectile
talk about a bad attempt.
