They haven't said anything about cutting those titles. They just start with NES titles. Reggie said that Virtual Console is now called Nintendo Switch Online, so there is a good chance that we'll get other titles as well. Especially considering that there is a working gamecube emulator on Nvidia Shield China which uses the same graphics chip as the Switch.
While you might be right, you may have to understand my cynicism as a long time Nintendo fan, and watching them squander VC not just once, but three times at this point. On Wii, it took them over half a decade to finally get a decent selection, and then when the 3DS and WiiU came out, they started from scratch on both systems again. Not to mention VC took ages for many requested titles to ever make it to market, and many major games never even got released at all. Yoshi's Island for the SNES never got a proper port until the SNES classic, just to name a huge example. Nintendo has done the legwork twice over at this point. It shouldn't take a very long time.

NintendoLife is saying a direct will happen at 7pm EST tomorrow: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/09/rumour_yet_another_nintendo_direct_to_air_tomorrow_switch_online_details_incoming
It's real, here's the YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMt0PzmXosU
Nintendo Everything seems to be the only source for the Direct announcement, I can't find any of the Nintendo channels saying anything about it. I'm not doubt it, per say, but it's odd to not see anything anywhere else.
So is that in eight hours? I'll have to get up early if that's the case.
i wonder how long they are going to spend talking about online? My gut tells me 10 minutes at most.
huh? the youtube stream literally says 31 hours
31 hours to be exact.
A day and 8 hours, so around 32 hours.
I bet they're gonna talk none about it, and might get more info next week. I am expecting a Smash trailer at the end of it, and I don;t know what else 3DS they gonna announce now, probably a remake that should have been in the Switch. For Switch games, I'm sure they're gonna talk more about Daemon X Machina, Super Mario Party, The World Ends With You, Diablo III release date.
I bet they delayed the Splatoon update for the Direct. It's timing is too perfect.
I hope that both the splatoon update and the fw 6.0 update are released after the direct. And i wish we get concrete information about the initial 20 nes games for the paid online and the frequency in which they will be adding more games. Dobut it will appear in the direct but it would be nice if it does.
Bah, they just gonna be adding like 1-2 NES games per month, and after 3 years, then they start adding SNES games.
That's why I'm not subbing. Online Smash isn't that important to me right now and I'm not supporting the same business practices they've had since the Wii.
give me fire emblem or give me death
Why am I not allowed to have a portable N64.
I can see it now: we have a big announcement for Animal Crossing, several minutes dedicated to it, with Isabelle running through the whole thing. Then, at the end- "I'd love to keep going, but I have another appointment with the mayor" And then the smash logo hits
