Also what the fuck is this "Windows Leak" I heard about?
there was an image recently that showed what looked like a windows server environment with images for the smash bros blog
potentially spoilers, so be warned for anyone that cares about that.
we are happy to announce that we have reworked the smash online system - introducing the mandatory smash online app! Play with friends by sending them your 32 randomly generated smash code!
I don't even expect them to sweeten the deal at all. They already have millions of people defending paying $20 a year for internet that isn't worth paying for. NES games that everyone and their grandma owns on 30 different systems and emulators and cloud saves that are disabled in games that are gonna need them the most. So why would they make it better?
im paying day one because they are taking splatoon hostage, and i bet im not the only one
I play Splatoon in bursts, I can take a break until Smash comes out. I'll reconsider paying at that point.
marketing, same reason why they just came out with the 7-days-free-trial stuff
I don't like P2P turf War so much that I'm willing to pay for it.
If dedicated servers roll out for Splatoon, Nintendo has my money without hesitation but until then they can eat a dick.
Marketing has been non-existent. It's been contained to twitter posts only and even then it has only been stuff like "Wow you can now take turns playing with your friends in Super Mario Bros. 3 ooooonnnnnnllllliiiiinnnneeee" I get the feeling they are trying to launch online with as little exposure as possible.
You also have Pokemon next year that will use the paid online. That covers lots of people that Splatoon and Smash doesn't.
Whenever I get the urge to play Splatoon 2 again I'll likely buy the Octo Expansion and use that to hold me over. I hope this online service proves to be a failure until Nintendo actually offers something of value, but kids and intense fanboys will likely cause it to be at least a modest success.
you're partially right that, until today, nintendo completely ignored its online service that is to be released in only a week or so but that doesn't mean that the press or online sites didn't cover every little bit of new info that came out (or that they discovered themselves): negative coverage exists, just look at this week cloud saves situation
we know for a fact that switch online will take a portion of tomorrow direct time so it makes perfect sense, from a business standpoint, that they'll try to "bury" it under a reasonable stream of good announcements
Well, like I said before, maybe some people will move back to Splatoon 1 for a bit when Switch Online rolls out, even if Miiverse is dead.
I never did make my way up to S+...
I’m so glad I went into BOtW completely blind, i’m in love!
Did you at least know what the game generally looked like beforehand, or where you completely blind on that too?
The Wii U was already a dead console and Splatoon 2 improved on the original greatly. Might as well just bite the bullet and pay the twenty bucks.
Why the hell would Nintendo be using Windows Server 2003? That's gotta have major security vulns by now
I wouldn't be surprised if it's powered by hundreds of hampsters running on wheels.
And that's exactly what Nintendo is betting on. Everyone biting the bullet.
Even though I think this is fake lots of Japanese businesses stick to old hardware for long periods of time. However I read that apparently someone could tell that it's just the classic skin on a newer version of Windows. Also the yen symbols in the file explorer urls are what happens when you set up languages incorrectly on windows from english to japanese.
This isn't a new thing companies do. It's more secure than newer versions because nobody makes new viruses/trojans/etc for older versions of Windows.
I'd imagine they'd *want* to target older versions that are still in use, since they'd be more vulnerable due to lack of security.
not to mention I'm sure exploits found on new versions exist in older versions somewhat often, so it can target everything.
pretty sure older viruses can still fuck over modern windows too, if you bypass security and defender and etc so it runs.
Just be glad that it isn't a Windows 98 machine. I've met someone a few years ago who told me that on a business trip to Japan he saw certain computers at the company's building still running Win98 because they couldn't afford to turn them off for long periods of time and didn't want to bother changing it. I wonder if it's still like that now.
