Kinda like waiting for Star Citizen, except this wasn't crowdfunded and the developers don't come up with a shitload of features every week to try and grab more money jokes aside, why is it taking so long? I feel like this is going to be one of the biggest updates like that one where they added like 3k items or so to the game
I remember thinking last summer that i wanted to play Terraria again but deciding to wait for the new update. I was like "hmm it'll probably get released this autumn or maybe even earlier, i'll wait for that." Now it's almost a year later and i still haven't played Terraria and i can't now because i've waited this long so i can wait some more. I'm not bummed out about it though, they never set a release date and the fact that they're still working on these big free updates kinda spoils us to begin with.
It's not meant to be like a huge update right? Just some QoL changes/improvements?
That's how it always starts

Is this like an expansion, or is that the name of the new patch they've been working for a long time now?
It's just the name of the patch. It was 1.3.6, but it got so big that they turned it into 1.4, and they decided to give it a name as it's the last real update. There's more details in their announcement post.
I'm liking those UI additions.
I remember when Terraria was much newer and the end game tier was like, I think Ivy Armor, it gave you huge magicka boosts so you could fly around forever with rocket boots. Then I come back many years later and it feels like a totally different game. I was playing it normally and got to the old end and then suddenly "Oh, welcome to hardmode." and it blew my mind that the game changed so much that what I remembered wasn't even half the game anymore. And now we're about to double the item pool, get new bosses, a new difficulty, and tons of other shit. It's gonna be like a whole new game again, and that tickles me.
Well now I feel like a fool
Well now it's not that far from over, isn't it? That game probably had the most amazing update history ever, can't believe it was dead at one point. Anyway, https://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/external/Ds-XjHgMtMUxV-jQEdlDHvcP5-U9oCg-w3773xhx7s0/https/media.discordapp.net/attachments/198093588280639488/587829560683266070/image0.png That's all they had to tease really.
I remember when Terraria first came out, it was my first game on Steam after I watched the Yogscast play it. People said it was just a 2D Minecraft, but I think it's undoubtedly become much more than a "2D Minecraft clone", which it never really was supposed to be in the first place. I think.
It evolves far beyond 2d Minecraft by the time you fight your first boss.
Wow, been smashing out some hours in Terraria again this past couple of weeks and now it looks like I should have waited a bit. Such a good game.
Hopefully they will improve item management. I played with like 3-4 major mods and managing all the items and loot that they added was a pain in the ass.
i've heard that one before
Didn't the announcement call it the penultimate update. That means there's one more after this.
The announcement messed up. It's the final major update. After this Relogic will finally get to work on their second big title, which could be Terraria 2, or something else.
So since apparently facepunch is going down for good, i made a new thread on knockout: https://knockout.chat/thread/604
