Its so fucking true it hurts. Dota2 got Figma's and I'm hella jealous.
It's sad that even licensed TF2 products are delayed over four years and turn out to be mixed to horrible in quality.
We would be better off with Takara/Tomy tbh >.>
I don't think Takara/Tomy does licensed figures, but I could be wrong. Their engineering on the Masterpiece line of Transformers figures is nonpareil in the industry, however.
I'd imagine the licensing for NECA is cheap. Probably why they can sell the figures for so cheap as well - $20 is pretty damn cheap for figures with lots of articulation and the accessories that the TF2 figures have. Also, this is personal preference, but I'd take the $20 Portal 2 Atlas/P-Body figures that have basic articulation and LED eyes over the figmas of them. The Nendoroids also look pretty good, and come with actual portals as well.
I would like some non articulated TF2 figurines that have a similar size, quality and price point as Amiibos.
It's weird how low-quality most of NECA's TF2 stuff is, considering their other big licenses (Predator, Aliens, Gremlins, Godzilla, Pacific Rim, etc.) are all excellent figures for the price point. I got the Heavy and the only thing I dislike about him is his neutral expression; figure I'll get a Medic for him once that final wave drops in October, but I really have no idea how they screwed the pooch so badly on those figures, you'd think designs as cartoony as those in TF2 would be super easy to sculpt and paint, especially since anyone with a copy of the game has access to each of the player models for reference. I remember there being issues with their Left 4 Dead figures too, where the toys themselves looked great, but they insisted on releasing the Boomer and Smoker first instead of any of the survivors, so the line pegwarmed and was cancelled due to "lack of interest", despite people constantly tweeting at them for a Bill or Hunter figure.
Do the Superhero action figure line thing where each left 4 dead figure comes with a piece of a giant Tank figure and you have to get all 8 (the original 8 survivors, Smoker, Hunter, Boomer, and Witch) to make the full Tank, along with each coming with a specific weapon. I'd fucking love a Bill with a combat shotgun.
I mean, Valve's not innocent when it comes to making boneheaded decisions for their games either. Teleporting hasn't been an issue since they disabled big zeds from teleporting way back when, and the resistance system has been massively toned down from the backlash when it was released. Also, I didn't like the Zedconomy update either, but $30 is not "full price" (not even counting for how often they put the game on sale) Martial Artist was axed because the current bezerker we have now was what they were going to do with martial artist, until they realized that EA zerk was bad, and needed a complete overhaul. TF2 has it's fair share of stinker cosmetics as well (Ticket Boy comes to mind easily) E-DARs haven't been a problem since they summer beta ended lol, and they even said they're re-working the upgrade system and even explained how they're going to do it. Most of, if not all the issues you listed have been addressed at most, a month after they were introduced, and with a comprehensive explanation on what the issue is, and how they're going to address it. Valve on the other hand would remain silent for 6 months (at earliest), and -maybe- fix the issues they've introduced.
I really want to see Valve release a list of the top 100 least used cosmetics, they already showed the Wanga Prick is the least used weapon.
I remember when item set bonuses were still a thing, and for whatever reason the wanga prick didn't count for the Saharan spy set, despite being the exact same weapon
I guess the visuals are different? Wanga Prick doesn't really fit with the Fez and L'Etranger.
You mean the Portable Mercs blind pack vinyls that came out years ago? Because that is exactly what you are describing.
Eh, I'd drop $12 on a 3-5 inch figure that's basically a 3D printed version of an in-game model before I drop $18 on a blindbag that has a random chibi-style vinyl figure in it.
Good luck. Unless they outsource the entire production to a chinese company and basically try to break even, you aren't going to get anything beyond medium-quality tiny chibi sculpts for less than $20. Nintendo can only do that and make it successful because A. They're Nintendo, and B. They have a history of designing toys as well as games, and even then, the paint isn't always the best quality.
Player : Oh my gosh, TF2 community is so toxic, wtf Same Player in-game : lol get rekt you shitstain ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
I just want good quality, articulated TF2 figures. So far the NECA line has been a bit of a bummer, with the Heavy being the best figure of the line. Definitely need the Figma approach.
"toxic" is the newest panic word to shift the blame off your own attitude/mistakes. it no longer means anything in videogames and I hope it dies down soon. all hail "oof"
This is also late, but I'm pretty sure somebody posted an announcement of those 3 figures last thread or the thread before that one, because there was a discussion (namely me saying something) that the Medic didn't have glasses on his sculpt.
I'd like to see the TF2 team take a look at some halloween cosmetics and remove the restrictions on the ones that don't look absurd.
what you think doesn't look absurd might be for someone else. you'll just create more whining for the stuff that are left restricted.
Eurogamer just put out an article about the recent toxicity issues in the TF2 community.
There was an academic paper/book I remember reading in CogsSci called Sound Play: Video Games and the Musical Imagination by ethnomusicologist William Cheng and all the associated jargon. Among other things, it analyzed the Maria and Draco opera from Final Fantasy VI, the use of a cheery 50s soundtrack in constrast to Fallout 3’s post-apocalyptic world, and an entire chapter on the use of the microphone in Team Fortress 2 ranging from squeakers, insults, griefing, and “Ralphie”.
Ralphie?
Valve's office structure is one of those things that sounds cool as shit only to people who have never had to coordinate a task that must be completed on time before. I only coordinate a tiny department in a shitty retail store and yet I can tell you that if you let people do what ever the fuck they want in a workplace you're gonna end up with severely shitty results.
On the set of servers I run, the Lenny face (and most variations thereof) sets the player on fire and covers them in jarate. It also suppresses it for every player except the one who spammed it.
did JI break the afterburn? that would be funny since the IgnitePlayer input doesn't work well anymore since the change.
Some dude already mentioned it, but TF2 promotes a "toxic" environment. There are dominations, the characters openly trashtalk each other. And that's kinda fine, as long as it stays tolerable. I don't do any of that, but tolerable toxicity is calling the Sniper that taunt killed you "fucker" in chat (imo) - when it however comes down to racism, actively harassing a person etc., you clearly have passed a line and that should be obvious to any person with 2 braincells. I just read one of those articles and saw the author that talked about their experiences in the workshop censor the word... "bitch". A word that even the bloody soldier uses in-game in a domination line. Can't help but raise an eyebrow, because basic banter is something that'll always be part of online gaming, not like that's a bad thing. Y'ar still playing a game where you actively kill people in the most brutal ways possible.
Imagine having skin this thin that you get offended from tf2.
I love servers with plug-ins like that. I loved how the Slag servers would censor certain words and play little jingles when they were censored. Adds a little bit of personality to the servers. This is only related somewhat - would you be able to tell a layperson how much the servers cost you monthly to run? I imagine rates are different based on where you get the servers from
