Reskins with unique models confuse players looking to identify what weapons their enemies are using.
A lot of top contribs have an insane amount of items in the game that they worked on, most of those items being directly purchasable (added more than ~2 years ago). As an example, you're a top contributor. You have over 70 items in the game, not counting Robotic Boogaloo and medals. You've worked on over 70 items, the majority of these were released years ago (your earliest contribution was the Manniversary update, which came out in, what, 2012?) and therefore are directly purchasable. You also have worked on over 300 items. If the TF team wanted, they could literally make 2 more cosmetic updates solely dedicated to items you submitted to the workshop, and they'd still have items left over. We're not talking about top contributors, renowned for their skill in modelling/texturing/etc and for being in the workshop item game so long. Contributors like you are an exception, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you or BANG! or any of the other top contributors even had to worry about finding jobs in the future should TF2 dry up. We're talking about johnny brightface, who just spent 20 hours making his first ever cosmetic, dreaming of one day being able to sustain himself off the less than 10 cents per chest he gets if the item were to get into the game in its current state. If he's lucky he'll make a few hundred bucks.
you're making a hell of a lot of assumptions about how this whole thing works
Then explain it to me.
Like, make things, make them good, make lots of 'em, you'll get stuff in the game, you'll get paid. Keys also no longer expire so you can always get paid. Plus, people generally have basically no reason to buy weapons or hats from the Mann Co. Store, so I don't see a problem with hat makers only making money with key sales.
Its funny you try and tell me this, a contributor, how much you think we make.
Honestly I wish people could stop trying to "balance" the classes they don't even know half shit about.
that hasn't put a stop to all the current unique model reskins in the game, now has it? instead we even get paint that make stock items look like unlocks at a distance. Guess it isn't a problem to valve.
We haven't received reskins in two years, with the last being the Prinny Knife.
is that because valve learned a lesson, or because they're just no longer interested, or lazy, unwilling or many other adjectives?
I doubt they stopped making reskins simply because of the existence of War Paints, I think it's simply a matter of not knowing which weapons to reskin, and how to reskin them (I.E What do we make them look like?)
most of the models are made by other people. They just need to do the promo and import the stuff.
I mean, there shouldn’t be any attempts to suppress creative ideas or feedback. But, the problem is when people expect thier inexperienced or bad ideas to be taken seriously.

without sharing specifics as to avoid breaking the workshop legal agreement, as a concept artist and minimal percentage cuts, I still made a pretty hefty amount from some of my earlier items. TF2 item making is a completely sustainable income source, provided you actually have plenty of items in the game with good % cuts, even with just key/crate sales. That said, things certainly have changed a lot in terms of payout since they stopped adding things directly to the store. It should also be noted since it is a royalty based system, that it can be incredibly inconsistent anyways, and you should probably look into a real job on the side.
I cannot raffle a key or similar due to issues, but have this. Rate disagree for a chance to get a Deep Cover Operator painted zepheniah's greed/ MGS3 reference. Winner will be announced later this week.

Well damn, that’s just lazy. At least make a credible sounding valve employee?
A credible Valve employee wouldn't bother contacting anyone.
that brony name really sells it, seems legit.

Was looking at the Love and War update + SFM the other day and it made me think; how can a team producing all that greatness resort to the current state weren't in now? It's too sad to think about really
very simple really. it's not the same devs. but they don't want you to know this.
Afaik, Eric and Dave have worked on TF2 and only TF2 since it came out.
who we actually need is robin walker and mike booth
Awful unproductive corporate structure that's great for the workers but downright poisonous for consumers. But we've went over that a dozen times now.
why are they breaking the GC on a saturday? it's not like they're doing anything important on a saturday
I'm grateful we have two programmers at least. When did Robin leave? Would be funny if he's worked on other stuff longer than he worked on TF2 after launch.
