iirc, he left before Dota 2 was released.
He left to work on Dota 2, more specifically, the micro-transactions in Dota 2.
It is pretty weird that we haven't heard any kind of leaks or whispers concerning the next update yet.
I have three theories for this:
There's nothing to leak yet, hence the silence.
Insiders are getting info concerning the next update, but with an actual NDA this time around.
The TF Team has recognized how ravenous we get when we get leaks of information, especially leaks that indicate the update should be right around the corner. Perhaps they're keeping quiet this time so that doesn't happen?
valve deliberately leaving traces and hints toward updates is their signature move. To claim they avoid that at all costs is silly.
working on the same game for 20 years might be the reason
Robin also helped on the Steam Controller, which I'm glad that it exists.
I'm not saying they avoid it at all costs, just that they might actually be being quiet this time. Unless they legitimately aren't doing anything at all, which I genuinely doubt, their silence lately is unusual and could indicate a shift in how they communicate with us.
I don't think he outright claimed they withheld information simply because they don't want us to see it, I'm pretty sure he just said that they're withholding info simply because they don't want to get emails from 251251351`35135 different people asking "HEY UPDATE WHEN 2NITE THE NITE?!?!?!??!?! THIS IS WHAT I WANT IN THE UPDATE:". Last time there was a small leak (VNN's email), Facepunch talked about it for weeks, which resulted in many people emailing Valve about the shit they wanted in the game. I'd bet that that got pretty annoying, especially since it seemed as if they put in overtime for that update.
People are going to be angry when an update takes forever to launch either way.
you are the same person that said that the developers change on a constant basis thus we shouldnt expect the same actions, so this argument is kinda moot.
I mean, even if the devs change out frequently, I don't think that would affect Valve's philosophy regarding community interaction/intentional leaks and teases.
The more silent they are the more content they're working on.
Good ol' Valve
Found myself watching old TF2 vids of Star_ and Jerma, they did another video together recently and it took me on a little nostalgia trip
Your Eternal Reward and the KGB are a bit weird now, don't see what was wrong with them before. I did miss the gameplay though, its got that smoothness shit like Fortnite doesn't
KGB literally haven't been touched in the past 8 years since their release
god bless
yep KGB is still the same meme as ever
GRU got nerfed because it removed heavy's main downside if there were medics or medkits on the map
YER was supposed to get buffed but they overcompensated with the downsides
Fun fact: the Short Circuit has been rebalanced on average every 319 days since it came out.
like every weapon
It's boring. There's no skill index that comes with it, either you're close enough to hit it or you're not, and either you get a kill and get crits or you don't
Enemies that let themselves get killed by a a boxing gloves heavy could probably be killed more efficiently by your primary instead.
That's fine, I'm not saying you can't find it fun. It's just a boring weapon design-wise.
shit sorry! not KGB, the GRU
the only skill indexed melee in the game is basher jumps. plz stop with this nonsense
Should I even bother pointing out how there's been an entire class designed around skill-indexed melee since the game release, or just leave it at your comment
the act of clicking the knife isn't the hard part of spy.
at any rate, "skill indexed melee" is an hilarious implication and tf2 certainly isnt pvk2.
your heresy would be forgiven if it weren't for insulting god tier kgb.
Would people play Arena mode if it were to come back to Casual?
TF2's class-based gameplay just isn't suited for Arena. I doubt it'd see much more play unless some modifications were made to it. However, I absolutely love all the maps that are exclusive to Arena and really wish KOTH variants were made/added to the base rotation, especially since TF2's current KOTH base map rotation is so shitty (looking at you, basic Viaduct, Nucleus, and Sawmill).
skill-indexed doesn't just mean "do you do more than click".
arena sucks
people dont remember arena sucks because people havent played it, what would happen is that people would play it for 1 (one) day and then its dead because arena sucks
Why did Valve discontinue the Territory Control gamemode after Hydro? Nathan Vetterlien streamed recently, and, as a joke, he added Hydro to the map rotation. It resulted in a fun 10 minute match full of exciting gameplay. The only gripe I have with that gamemode is that the matches can last for a long period of time, depending on the skill of competing teams.
probably because it's pure hell to design and map
