I just reached Chapter 3; and for some fantastic reason after deleting all my old custom outifts, I can only save two outifts now. This can't be intentional. What the hell is going on with my game?
Drawing right into Dead Eye is the coolest shit. Found the perfect group of targets to test it on too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmwVkJHV7qI
My dad threw a stick of dynamite into the group, killed all of them but 2.
Can you upgrade how many outfits your horse can hold? I have too many ideas for different contexts. Also, do all stores sell the same clothing? I've only been to Valentine and Strawberry but both their stores had the same thing
Possible spoilers. Linked photo of Van der Linde gang at a set point in the game. Anyone notice that Arthur looks a bit short in this picture? Sure he's built like like a linebacker but he's got some stubby legs. Also he's closer to the camera than Dutch is but Dutch looks taller. I also just noticed that Arthur's hat is really tall almost as if he's compensating or something. If anything that makes me love Arthur even more, he looks like 5' 8" and can kick anyone's ass.
am I crazy for thinking Max Payne 3 is a really solid game and I still play it today? I get it's a bit of a step away in the story from the first two but god damn it's probably my favorite single-player shooter game. I'm really enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2, only problems I have with the game is the fact that I can only play it on an Xbox One right now and not on my PC, I suck with controllers.
Funny you mention that, I recently completed another playthrough of it just a few months ago. It's my personal favorite in the series! I think there's no other 3rd person shooter game that surpassed Max Payne 3 for me in terms of gameplay. The shooting, euphoria physics and level of environmental interactivity/destruction is still one of the most exciting, intense and visceral I have played in a game. I wish the game received more maps and stuff for its co-op mode, and heck just a standalone Dead Man Walking mode like the first two had. My only real complaints with Max Payne 3 is how relatively short it is in the grand scheme of things, coupled with the amount of cutscenes that interrupt gameplay especially in the first half. But despite that it's still really well paced and is one of the most fun and exciting single-player campaigns to playthrough. The modding scene is surprisingly semi-active, with a prominent one being a native trainer that allows spawning of AI, and can be set as friendly, neutral or hostile. Makes for some fun make-your-own shootouts in the different levels. Porting maps and stuff work but it seems to be pretty unstable and complicated at the moment. I'm really hoping someday the path for fan-made campaigns is possible. Max Payne 1 & 2 will always have a spot in my heart for its writing, characters and story but I found myself replaying Max Payne 3 more often because of the gameplay. It lacks the charming writing from Sam Lake and Remedy but what Rockstar did was pretty good as well and had me rooting for Max the whole through, and the ending being a relatively happy one, is well deserved for Max. I'm pretty happy how RDR 2 actually feels closer to Max Payne 3 gunplay-wise, and I really hope it does come out to PC eventually since I can see myself enjoying it even more than I already am with more fluid mouse controls.
I kinda hate the bounty stuff. I accidentally bumped into a guy while I was sprinting through Saint Denis and got a $10 bounty for "disturbing the peace". The fact that you HAVE to pay to lose it just sucks. If I eventually get bored and want to go on a rampage, I'll have to pay like $500 unless I save scum beforehand.
By the way guys, if you aren't using the compass, you should consider it. With waypoints on its just as easy to navigate but you get to immerse yourself in the world rather than playing "GPS: Wild West Edition"
So apparently some guys over at GTAForums found this in the credits of the game. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1236/d6901d77-13d5-4670-a6b8-d53b373a48d2/image.png This is so promising for a PC port, not to mention Linux support as well. If it's a good implementation this game should run fucking amazing on PC.
Found this horse up in the Grizzlies. Near max stats and is classed as an elite. Need to think of a good name for her though. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1751/0e1d24e7-a462-45bd-b5c9-513dccfb7e17/image.png
I got that horse yesterday. I wasn't too impressed until I had to run away from the law during a mission. She sprints so goddamn fast. I called her Blanco.
So I finished the game's story yesterday, 100%. And I gotta say, this is probably among my favorite games of all time now. Easily. The complexity and variety, the god damn length and size of it all is simply astonishing. It topped every other Rockstar game I've ever played. And it's the first time I actually kept playing an Open World game after finishing the story because there's so much more stuff to find and the gameplay is still incredibly enjoyable. The amount of little secrets and mysteries blows my mind, even if it's only in form of unique hats and the occasional weapon. So far I've found the pirate hat and I know there's also a viking helmet around somewhere. SPOILERS BELOW, BE AWARE I really loved all the characters, good and bad. Their developments presented in this game are really well done and the story had some twists that really surprised me. The extreme tonal shift midway through the game really got to me and I felt the group breaking up and people dying or leaving left and right to be pretty sad. Especially the trust and friendship between Dutch and Arthur slowly breaking apart after what happened on Guarma, too. Speaking of Guarma: I never expected a fucking tropical island adventure to be in the game, literally had me go "What the fuck" in awe every few minutes while playing it. My next plans are going to be living in the mountains for a bit, camping and hunting up there and looking for whatever little things Rockstar could've hidden deep in the snow.
It’s a lame name, but using my current naming convention i’d call her snowy or frosty. my horses are as follows: dusty (tan palomino) American standardbred rusty (red bay) mustang woody (brown red) shire
What's the best way to bring in animals to pearson for provisions? Does it matter if they're skinned or not?
Always skin the animal first, so you get their pelt and meat. iirc, if you just bring in the animal, it just counts as a single carcass.
I just had this hilarious poetic moment happen to me MASSIVE SPOILER!! DO NOT WATCH UNLESS YOU'RE ATLEAST UP TO CHAPTER 4!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0eOWLlF6rg
Is there an in game compass? I know there's a watch, but a compass might be neat since I'm tired of hitting down and seeing all my stats when I just want to see which way a mission is.
ok that's what i was doing, christ how much meat and bodies do you need to donate to get up to gold from white? I probably spent two hours last night just bringing in animals and never got to gold
I found this on the subjective tropes page for Red Dead Redemption 2 on TV Tropes: The new law mechanics are a serious headache. For starters, wanted bounties are now much more expensive, and with how much less everything pays (except for dangerous activities like robbing banks or trains) it can become difficult to pay off said bounties. In addition, the game makes it really difficult to exist in areas that have bounties posted, as lawmen patrol the trails and will attack on sight. If your bounty is high enough, super persistent waves of bounty hunters will spawn in to track you down while resting, making it almost impossible to stay in one place while in a bounty zone. The bandana also does nothing, it seems- despite equipping it well out of sight of the A.I, citizens will still seem to be able to know that it's Arthur Morgan specifically who robbed them and not one of the dozens of other crooks in the area. As mentioned in Guide Dang It! on the main page, there's actually a lot more steps required for a complete disguise then the game deigns necessary to tell you. All of this wouldn't really be a problem, since it adds to the fun of committing crimes and having to deal with the consequences for doing so. The problem is that the game will force bounties on the player in certain story missions, forcing the player to pay out a bounty that they likely didn't want to have. The absolute worst example of this is the mission to rescue Micah, which slaps a whopping $300 bounty on the player once the mission is complete. At such an early stage it can be difficult to pay off, and it's likely that the player will divert several dollars to freeing up their forced bounties over the course of the story rather than buying more interesting things. Since basically everyone in this thread is experiencing the game but me (as of now), would you agree with the above? Hey, I may as well reinvent myself as a Far West handyman for hire and live my digital life as a (slight) law-abiding citizen
Nope, not experienced that at all. The stuff I loot off bodies from various encounters is already enough to cover my bounties, on the rare occasion I actually get one that "sticks". Make sure you have a completely separate outfit that you only use for robbing. You should have 3 slots on your horse, so one for cold, one for hot, one for robbing. Wear that outfit, wear a full hood preferable, use different or non-customized guns during your criminal activities. And either use a different horse, or no horse/temporary/stolen ones. It's even explained in the game's Help section; just the bandana isn't enough; anything you use can be linked to you visually will lead to people identifying you as "Arthur Morgan". If you do this, then the bounty doesn't stick. Unfortunately, once you do have a bounty, these rules kinda go out the window and the tally rises regardless of how you're dressed. I've literally put on my "crime" outfit, walked into the bigger town in the South East (Dennis something) and started mowing people down. Walked out with my moral meter all the way to the left, but no bounty.
Yeah if there's two things I have issues with in the game, it's that the tutorials are still terrible and the wanted/bounty system is utterly stupid. The tutorials are especially disappointing because the game starts out with some decent step-by-step tutorials, but they gave up on them before you even get a few missions into chapter 2 and go back to their terrible "here's all the info to do this thing in a small window in the upper left corner of the screen" method of tutorial. The wanted system is just nonsensical, you get reported for the most asinine reasons in the game. I came across a guy robbing a stagecoach and killing a woman, who told me to get the hell out of here and then started shooting at me. I shot back and killed him and got reported for murder and a bounty on my head. While in Valentine, one of the dogs in town ran in front of my horse while i was slowly walking and stopped suddenly. I got off my horse to try and defuse the situation with the sheriff, but he came to the scene with his repeater in hand and opened fire after i tried to talk to him. I managed to avoid being killed over something so trivial, but also earned another bounty in the process. You can tell Rockstar thinks their wanted system is hot shit, because they force that crap onto you during plenty of missions, even early on and even when you're doing completely legal things like debt collecting. All it has really done for me is make me completely skeptical of any random encounter i come across and wonder "do i really want to have to spend more of my money paying off bullshit bounties by engaging in this random event?" Most of the time I'll just ignore them and continue on to what I was originally setting out to do at the time, and I think that's the larger issue, that the wanted/bounty mechanic is actively pushing you away from engaging in what I think are the potentially more interesting parts of the game.
Since we're on to topic of the wanted system, I might as well share my current list of things that put a bounty on my head: Bumping into someone on horseback while in a town (this happened twice) Having a dog run in front of my (barely moving) horse Getting jumped by bandits and shooting back at a straggler who was trying to off me from a distance The last one was the real icing on the cake - getting penalized for that was beyond stupid. I'm crossing my fingers that either this get addressed; or this gets modded out in the hypothetical PC release. Trying to play a 'morally good' character is being more trouble then it's worth at the moment.
I'd paid off that bounty within an hour of getting it. The bounties can be annoying but it's nothing that just adjusting your playstyle to can't fix. You get tons of cash through the story, and very little reason to spend it so I don't think it's a big deal, don't bother buying guns either as you get them through the story more or less.
I'd rather spend the money on upgrading the camp than bounties though
You'll get more than enough to do that too. I have upgraded most things in the camp. I still have 2,000+ dollars and I'm not even up to chapter 5 yet.
you eventually get like $2000 after one of the story missions. That's more than enough to fully upgrade your camp.
Ah cheers, didn't know that! I've only been slowly exploring so far
I wish you could clean your weapons at the campfire along with all the crafting stuff.
I had a calamity of errors earlier. Riding along, accidentally jump over something into two other horses with riders who then start shooting me because we all crashed into eachother. I kill them, loot them, someone shows up and is a witness. I chase them. Finally get them, another witness appears: kidnapping. Chase after them, accidentally collide into them, the guy dies. These horses are very resilient and also incredibly floppy.
