CERO and ESRB are totally different.
Sakurai mentioned that it was a challenge to make Bayo not love her character while also not having the CERO of Smash be raised, which could've hurt the future sales of the game.
Magic bullets? Explosives? Lasers? Yes. Fine.
Actual guns and powder bullets? Nope!
Also, when was Shadow defined for having guns? That was one game because SEGA went "Fuck it, let's give him guns." All that game did was define a generation of (h)edgelords.
Shadow was always about this affinity to the Chaos Emeralds. Best thing they could do for him as a Echo is his FS being either Chaos Spear or Chaos Blast.
Or be lazy and make Chaos Control the same thing as Super Sonic because we all know actual slow down time won't happen as a FS.
Speaking of which... We never saw Peach's FS. I wonder if they'll change it for the better...
Shadow doesn't need guns. Legacy XP made Shadow just fine using psychokinetic darts, magic and rocket skates and you could even make some of that work on a Sonic echo by making one of the spin dashes do fire damage.
Shadow will be sonic with mewtwo's teleport and wario's bike
fellas i've got an idea for a wacky slapped together character. here it goes

but instead of the obvious "ness echo but his final smash is PK beam"
he'd be:
-animations borrowed from ice climbers for everything other than forward smash and jumps
-hammer replaced with a baseball bat
-jumps and forward smash from ness or lucas
-mewtwo's up B (Dimension Warp) and down B (hypnosis, sleeping effect instead of stun)
-toon link's forward B (there's a boomerang in mother 1)
-Project M's Lucas's neutral B (offenseup, makes the next smash attack more powerful, uses the PK freeze animation)
and there you have a much, much better representation of that character's abilities than copy-pasting Ness would ever be
My problem with ninten is how he looks so similar to ness.
Like, people post the design with a scarf, tri-coloured shirt and such from the TV ads, but afaik that's not the accepted design, just a bad localisation thing.
I'd much rather have porky or masked man as a mother rep anyway.
Ninten is alt costume-tier at best.

Mildly curious, what's the most absolute left field character you can think of that you'd get excited about? Like no characters near the top of fan polls that no one would see coming.
Was just thinking about Klonoa getting in for example and I'd expect all of 10 people to know who the hell he was

We don't need not-Ness because we already have Lucas. Ninten being his own character would be pretty redundant and I say that as a supporter for slapping pretty much anybody in as an echo fighter.
I feel like they could do enough to him to make hims distinguishable from Ness.
Feels like people forget that we have fucking Dark Pit and Dr Mario for example.
Dr Mario is in due to veteran status and Dark Pit is only not an alt costume because Sakurai didn't like series continuity by Dark Pit being able to use Pit's final smash.
Ok, Ninten also exists as an independent character from the first Mother game.
Rather you want to acknowledge it or not, Ninten and Ness are different characters in the Mother universe.
Do they look similar and have similar abilities? Yeah, but a modern take on Ninten's design can easily make him more distinguishable to Ness, and the similar moveset makes him fitting as an echo fighter.
Tell that to Alph.
We don't even know for sure if Alph is going to be just an alt or not, for all we know he might be an echo too.
And just for the record I don't actually care if Ninten becomes an echo or not, I just really don't get why people are so against his inclusion when the point of echo fighters is to add more characters that wouldn't get a shot otherwise.
Someone like Turok would be out of no where and would be neat. I'd rather have someone like Klonoa though. Smash has a lot of regular looking human characters already and I want more
cartoony fighters.
ninten has asthma, that's a personality trait
new idle animations where fatboy needs to catch his fucking breath and he just has PKThunder2 as his recovery (called PSI Teleport now, why not) instead of the projectile. you can tell he's not ness because he's constantly wheezing.
Turok is owned by DreamWorks, so if they ended up getting in that means . . . . oh no . . .

Theres also the issue of that no one really knows what Mother is outside of a niche group on the Internet.
I don't see the series having any big crowd pulling appeal.
