I don't even particularly want Ninten in the game, I just wanted to counter the common prediction that he'll be a Ness echo by people who probably haven't even played Mother 1. if they add a new Mother rep it should be someone who's not a protagonist.
Ness and Lucas are more than enough rep for PSI users, and that leaves:
-Loid
-Teddy
-Jeff
-Flint
-Duster
-Salsa
-Boney
as possible choices. I'm gonna rule out Boney and Salsa (although i'd main boney in a heartbeat)
Teddy and Flint could both work as echo fighters. Teddy would be perfect as an echo of Ganondorf who's a bit faster, has his sword moves replaced with a katana and the magic effects removed from his attacks. Flint could be similar but with a big old plank of wood as his melee weapon.
Jeff (with a Loid echo) and Duster are the two that would be really great and unique. Jeff has all kinds of things to use for attacks, battle weapons like the bazooka, bombs, bottle rockets, the HP suckers, shield killer (depicted in Mother 3 as a sticky hand,) and he could have a mechanic around repairing his weapons to upgrade them temporarily, something like that. Bubble Monkey could even appear as a recovery. Loid is an easy model swap because he had most of the same abilities.
Duster's one who has an actual chance, because he hasn't appeared as an assist trophy like Jeff and he's conspicuously not in Lucas's final smash. Lucas's moveset already represents him too with the rope snake and his attacks primarily consisting of kicking (which is how Duster fights in Mother 3) but he has his whole arsenal of thief tools like wall staples, smoke bombs, the siren beetle, scary mask, hypno-pendulum and the tickle stick. You could do some fun stuff with that.
Anyway Mother is really good pls Sakurai
Marina Liteyears from Mischief Makers. Not a chance in hell, but it would be nice.
Only for the best taunt in the game

I'll pitch in as well even though neither of these characters being in Smash would make any fucking sense at all

Tbh, I'm not even entirely sure if many people in the FPS community remember the game that the second character is from
now that simon is in, i think one of the best picks for a 3rd party character would be ryu hayabusa from ninja gaiden
i feel that the era of the nes is near perfectly represented in smash and that ryu's inclusion would round it out nicely
I want this only so the announcer has to say "Ryu" again with a different inflection.
If Isaac gets in, we'll get the same thing since he's Robin in Japan. Or maybe they'll just reuse Fire Emblem Robin's voice clip since that Robin also has a different name in Japan.
Reflet, iirc.
Actually Bill Rizer from the Contra Series would be perfect I feel. No idea what they'd do for a move set but he fits the bill perfectly in that he's from a well known franchise that started during the NES era which pretty much every third party except Bayonetta fits. Only problem is, he's yet another Konami rep... but that shouldn't matter right? Also you could even have Lance Bean as an echo since they've both been in pretty much every Contra game and use the same weapons.
Think about it you have the flame thrower, machine gun, spread gun... it'd be perfect, IMO. His standards attack could just be being able to shoot in all directions with the normal rifle while special attacks use upgraded weapons. Kinda liike megaman but you can shoot up, crouch and shoot, etcetera..
Probably not gonna happen but I kinda want it to happen just so there can be an official Nintendo game that has every character from the original Super Mario Crossover game that was popular a few years back, lol.
Mr.Driller, incorporating elements from both Mr.Driller games and Dig Dug since they're both canonically in the same world.
and no, he wouldn't inflate the whole cast. Mashing B could spawn an enemy from Dig Dug and inflate it, exploding and inflicting damage.
it's pointless to hope for a character based on how you think their moveset would be since Sakurai generally comes up with interesting gameplay first and then digs through nintendo's library of characters to find someone to slap onto it
though I don't think that's the case for third party characters, unless Sakurai just magically came up with a whip user who swings bilaterally with long-reaching disjoint, an arcing axe, holy water, and boomeranging cross, and realized he was thinking of simon belmont the whole time.
It's hard to tell sometimes cause characters like Fox have almost nothing taken from their games, characters like Robin feel like a sort of mishmash of ideas and tools with no cohesive gameplay archetype, characters like Kirby and Link are very explicitly based on their games of origin, and characters like Lucario are very explicitly inspired by something else entirely.
Decoding Sakurai's though process is damn near impossible, but it's a safe bet that your first party character will play nothing like you'd expect, while a given third party character probably plays exactly like you'd expect
I think it would actually be really funny if the retro rep they add (if they even add one) is Ayumi Tachibana from the Famicom Detective Club. She was considered for Melee but Sakurai decided against her because she's a literally who. Which is ironically why I think it'd be funny to have her included. That and she's so normal compared to the rest of the cast.
I'd like to see Ayumi because she is so utterly normal and unremarkable that she would have to have a bizarre moveset.
A Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger where each color is a different ranger.
A modification to the above. Just put in Tommy and each costume is the different Rangers he has been.
Everyone knows the best Smash characters are the weirdos.
have the cooking mama series got anything in Smash before?
Here's a new addition to Dolphin that will be great for Melee/Brawl/Project M netplayers.

They also wrote on their blog that this system may allow them in the far future to implement dedicated servers. Once that happens it'll be amazing, however there's a lot of stuff the team would have to do if they want that to happen, such as a trick to avoid having to require servers to host the ROM which is a big no-no.
I wish there was some way for netplay to not use splitscreen
I'd love to somehow have a dozen players in one match of timesplitters, or play co-op without dividing the perspective
This is actually how SM64's multiplayer emulator works. It keeps transmitting opponent positions and makes a model have their coordinates and poses.
. .. . . . the catch is you need a person who knows the ROM like the back of their hand to pull this off and it really isn't good for competitive titles.
Playing through The Messenger is also making me crave Hayabusa in Smash.
Him having both his classic blue ninja design and modern design as a costume would also be cool.
lucky for us isaac will never get in
They'll just have Ryu Hyabusa also listed as Ryu so you can have a 4-player battle of Roy, Ryu, Ryu and Roy.
Some of my biggest hopes right now are Phoenix Wright (another Capcom rep), Isaac and Monster Hunter/Palico. I'm not holding my breath for any of them though, and honestly the roster is already so strong that most characters that really deserve it are already in. I'm mostly hoping for more remixes from these series because the ones we've heard so far are so amazing
I'd give my left nut for Arthur from Ghosts n Goblins, I feel like a character like him would be a perfect fit for Smash.
Saw a nicely-done chart comparing the various Smash game newcomer counts, so thought it was worth showing here:

Should be interesting to see how echoes make this number compare on release, especially if DLC comes later.
they did say not to expect too many newcomers after all, but seeing how disproportionately small the newcomer roster is now compared to previous titles, I'd say we could expect at least half a dozen more including echoes
