Wavedash while you wavedash.
to be fair im pretty sure this was available in melee as well wavedashing also provides the ability to perform actions while advancing or retreating
I kinda hoped that they'd add wavedashing back now that airdodges 'decay' with overuse. So you could use your defensive option to approach but if you screw up you're in trouble with less ways to get out. Maybe have them count as more than one air-dodge? They could even have a specific input for them like they do for shorthops; jump + dodge while holding a direction.

Imagine playing as a character who most of his moveset consists of riding a motorbike. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fantendo/images/8/89/ExciteBike.png/revision/latest?cb=20140714110231
Every Smash game since Melee lets you do it, just not until a certain frame. I assumed you meant like Marvel wavedashing.

smash 4 and brawl dont let you do it until the initial dash animation has ended, but i thought melee lets you cancel the initial dash into buttons and specials as well as shield and dash
the whole reason wavedashing is even a good thing in melee is because it enables more options than just dash attack when moving. In Smash Ultimate you can do any move out of a dash so wavedashing isn't even necessary anymore.
The cancel rules for initial dash are the same except for being able to turn/dashdance at any point. You still can't use any normal except dash attack and for some reason you can't down b. Technically dash into shield is the same, but Smash 4's absurd 10f buffer will make you roll instead. Melee does let you cancel the run skid animation by crouching and holding down while running makes you automatically start skidding then crouch on the next frame. That's probably what you're thinking of.
I don't personally think they're out of place, but other licences have such great characters that could very well be in Smash and seeing a lot of Fire Emblem characters when you know you could have something different instead is frustrating. I'll be less disappointed if they release anothe character with this "anime" artstyle if it was someone from another franchise. And that doesn't also use a sword to fight.
Super Smash Blog update featuring Final Destination Not sure if these are the same pics we got before, but just in case they're new: https://i.imgur.com/yenLWX4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UCkg8Rl.jpg god it's fucking beautiful
Being able to space quickly and precisely with dashdancing/wavedashing is also important. Melee's strong offensive whiff punishing makes it riskier to try to wall people out and rewards you for threatening your opponent enough that they feel like they have to throw out an attack.
Also shield pressure is bonkers in Melee. Between shieldstun and wavegrabbing, it's easy for more passive/defensive players to repeatedly wind up in "retaliate now or die" situations. Really, Melee just has a lot of traits inherent to it that encourage intensely aggressive play, which is something the FGC favor in competitive settings because it's more fun to watch.
I would love to see more Metal Gear or FF, even something that's a pretty old and obscure Nintendo character, like Duck Hunt Dog. Someone from Sonic or Animal Crossing or Earthbound would be quite nice, and why not another license altogether ? I get your point though and I'm not against FE heroes, I'd just prefer something else, but that's just me.
What, "doc kid"? That's a term the competitive scene uses for players (usually younger ones) who were introduced to the Smash series through that Melee documentary. Heh, okay, that got a laugh out of me. Alright, five years then. 21 vs. 26. Wasn't trying to pick a fight or anything, just saying I thought he was younger than me by a good few years.
What I liked about Wii Fit was Sakurai seemingly being annoyed by thousands of character requests and he just went and made Wii Fit Trainer a character as revenge.
Yeah, I thought the Wii Fit Trainer reveal was hilarious. It also sent the internet into a predictable (and completely intended on Sakurai's part) fury, which was highly entertaining itself.
Oh. I'm not going to lie, that went completely over my head.
Because Zelda has not only less characters total, but also only 3 of them actually are unique characters (until ultimate kinda changed Dorf) Fire Emblem getting more characters is kinda ridiculous
https://mobile.twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1037339567630639109?s=19 We might get a character announcement.
3DS MAN Unfolds A World of Hurt!
You post this, but Virtual Boy could make a goofy ROB tier character, or heck, a ROB echo.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did talk about Nintendo Online, they announce a NES retro fighter for Smash Ultimate. Maybe that Mach Rider concept being a reality.
I mean I has no negative emotions towards her but also no positive. Just a "heh, alright." I welcome new, unique characters and don't see any reason to be upset with her.
More like " 3ds, Just won't die'
Why are people disagreeing with your post? I think expecting a small Smash focus even in this general direct (like one character announcement) isn’t unreasonable - Smash For WiiU/3DS also had newcomers revealed in general directs. Like, yeah, obviously don’t expect a big blowout of new content like the August direct, but one newcomer reveal is a reasonable prediction.
They will probably talk about the special editions and controllers of Smash Ultimate, and maybe new amiibos? I'm not really expecting much but a new character would be an absolute surprise.
https://sourcegaming.info/2018/09/05/no-such-thing-as-bad-music-in-a-great-game-sakurais-famitsu-column-vol-562/ Some series require us to pay a lot of money to use their music since they’ve given the rights to other companies. Some series don’t allow us much choice since securing the rights to use music on a worldwide release is pretty difficult. That means we can only include a few songs. Despite all those limitations, I feel like we’re working really hard with Smash. Good chance this is why there's only two songs for Final Fantasy.
new famitsu column, this time on ultimate's soundtrack “No Such Thing as Bad Music in a Great Game” Sakurai’s Famitsu C.. Some series require us to pay a lot of money to use their music since they’ve given the rights to other companies. Some series don’t allow us much choice since securing the rights to use music on a worldwide release is pretty difficult. That means we can only include a few songs. Despite all those limitations, I feel like we’re working really hard with Smash. The amount of energy we’ve spent dealing with rights issues is about a hundred times as much as you would on a normal title. In the final round of a tournament for Smash for Wii U, the point where everyone should be as riled up as can be, The Roost theme started playing. Even if you set a song to a low frequency, it will still come up every once in a while. I included it because I thought it was a good song, but that incident made me think I should be careful not to include too many songs that didn’t fit the occasion from now on. This time, the Castlevania and Mega Man series were both very popular, so there are a lot of new arrangements. Fire Emblem also received a surprisingly large number of tracks thanks to one person in particular.
