I feel like Rathalos itself is the extent of Monster Hunter representation seeing as it crosses over all the time. It appeared in games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear, so I wouldn't be surprised if its presence is just another use of an iconic character.
Not to mention, franchises such as Bomberman and Shovel Knight are already in without playable fighter representation so it's not unheard of.
You can actually play as Ryu in Monster Hunter World. https://youtu.be/TwfUQd-BFRE
Unofficial poll over on twitter ended: https://twitter.com/SSBUNews/status/1037437559343865856
How the fuck is Sans even that high up. I know it would be epic if he was in but. More wanted then Phoenix Wright and a Pokemon rep?
i dont see how in the world phoenix wright would work in smash. His entire marvel playstyle pretty much relies on the existence of fixed screen borders from which his specials can seamlessly emerge. He's also got the whole evidence mechanic or whatever...
Memes and no other reason. If they used popular results, it's a 50/50 chance of being osmething people actually want, or the ironic meme choice. Don't ever got o or use polls for actual choices.
I've learned not to question how a character can play anymore when Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt Dog was added. Sakurai can turn anything into a fighter.

those characters actually hit you with their own limbs. virtually every tool Wright has is comical and detached and even in marvel 3 looks kinda ridiculous and out of place. And that's in a game where deadpool can hit you with his own health bar. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/272579/dbe13c4b-8927-4320-aab3-2d0ddd483872/image.png
Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer and even Villager worked and aren't fighters to begin with. Phoenix's moveset can work in Smash easily like his B be him grabbing evidence and depending on what you get you get different attack, Side-B summoning Maya to do an attack, A attacks using his evidence sheet to damage people, air A is him sneezing, and the final smash is "Objection" that works similar to Bayonetta, if they're above 100%, they get a Guilty verdict (instant-KO)
he pulls out a gun and shoots you to death there easy. On a actual serious note I'll be shocked if they don't pull a Smash 4 with this direct. End with a new character then announce a smash focused direct down the line.
thats not even mentioning that without supers, Wright loses almost all his character
If they announce the Smash Direct for October, it makes sense but I'm sure they will hold out until November to talk about everything else left to talk about unless they do 2 Direct, one for the new mode and another for whatever else is there, aside from newcomers of course.
Probably blashpamy in the Smash Thread but I just hope Smash doesn't take up like 10-15 minutes again like the official revealing direct did. I like hearing info but would much rather keep that for Smash focused directs.
yeah, I hope the direct doesn't hang itself up on smash, I'd like for them to give us detailes on other games as well... as long as one of them is animal crossing.
Reminds me of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovqYktZQKh0 Also, he has a rather solid moveset in UMvC3. If they could, I'm sure Sakurai can. He already did it with Duck Hunt, ROB, G&W, Wii Fit. Pheonix would be a cakewalk.
For the Direct, I only expect one reveal, usually all of my expectations were uplifted since E3 and i'm hoping this happens but otherwise my focus is mostly on if there's games i can play while Ultimate is coming out in the last month. As for who could be revealed, I'm probably calling Skull Kid or a Pokemon. (Maybe just maybe Geno?)
Gonna guess Bandana Dee because even though I want him he's a bit of a smaller reveal compared to the likes of characters like Geno and Banjo.
To be honest, I'm just being wishful thinking. If we get another Capcom rep, it for sure it's gonna be Street Fighter as it's the easiest to implement.
I'll have to watch the Direct at work and god forbid if the character reveal is hype or I'm gonna lose my job.
you've missed out how phoenix became one of the most powerful characters in the entire roster as soon as people realised what had to be done. the only reason why you did not see more comp phoenix s because people started looking at him once the game's scene was practically dead. people asumed phoenix was useless until someone figured how powerful he could get. you know, just like megaman.
last I checked phoenix wright is still considered low tier
they could expand phoenix's moveset by giving him moves based on other characters (psyche-locks, coffee, von karma's whip, etc) sakurai isn't averse to stuff like that, just look at ness's specials. the only one of those he can actually use is PK flash. the rest are learned by other characters
phoenix 100% would absolutely work if sakurai wanted him to.
I would unironically love White Mage as a character, the one from the sports games.
I mean, I would be a-okay for him to fight using constant summons, kinda likes a crazier version of Zelda.
Yes Mallow
so would a sim just cause you can stretch to make a character fit doesn't mean it's a good idea
