Apparently, 5 of the top 8 at Shine 2018 for SSB4 were Bayonetta with GFs being Bayonetta dittos. Zack ragequit the community after losing to a Sonic and his disgusting EVO behavior while using Bayonetta and several players like Void are now quitting because of Bayonetta, while the community is complaining that she ruins the meta and is hurting the scene.
Man, but why do those other games ban overpowered characters? Hmm . . . . . .
If nothing else it's convenient Ultimate is coming in as Smash 4 2.0 right as 4's competitive scene seems to be self-destructing. I get the impression that most 4 players will smoothly transition into Ultimate.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just flat-out ban Bayonetta from the get-go if she's as bad as she is in 4 with all of the bad blood over the character.
Bayonetta, ZSS, and pre-patch Diddy are all part of the no fun allowed squad. I hated getting hit with the same super easy to perform and easy killing combo ZSS had involving her grab (or was it side B) followed up with an up-B, I remember that fucking combo could KO most characters at 80%
I wonder what Sakurai is thinking when making Bayonetta. I'm sure it wasn't his intention of making her overpowered but creating her to be a 1:1 like in her game pretty much begs to be broken.
You know and option that would be cool? Able to disable fighters in the CSS.
Meta Knight in Brawl was banned for soooooooo many other reasons
Like, where do you even fucking start
So, would you take this starting roster?
Total starters: 28 + Miis
64: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Ness, Captain Falcon
Melee: Peach, Bowser, Ice Climbers, Sheik, Zelda, Marth
Brawl: Meta Knight, Pit, Zero Suit Samus, Wario, Pokemon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Olimar
4: Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Mii Fighters, Palutena
Ultimate: Inkling
I'm trying to come up for unlock criteria for the remaining half of the roster; to be honest, older Smash games really motivated you to beat Classic with everybody...
We might still get Celica as a Robin Echo, but yeah, Awakening does not need 3 fucking characters. If we don't have a new Xenoblade character at launch but we get 2+ FE Echoes I'm gonna be more than upset.
I do believe Chrom was FAR more popular of a request than Alm.
Shadows of Valentia seems to be the least popular of the 3DS FE games. Being a remake and so and so...
It'll be really sad to me if we don't get an Advance Wars rep. I mean it's very unlikely we will but it was a hugely successful and popular franchise until it just suddenly stopped for no reason.
Especially given how many fire emblem reps we have when FE owes its existence to Advance Wars in the first place.
Man Chibi Robo would've been cool as a fighter.
A lot of Brawl assist trophies definitely seem like they could've been popular enough to include as characters but got looked over for some reason. Advance Wars and Golden Sun in particular were pretty big deals back in the 2000s and if they had gotten newcomers maybe they'd still be around.
Ness is the Today's Fighter post, in honor of the anniversary of Mother 2. So it's about halfway done with characters with 15 weeks left to go.

Awakening has 2 echo fighters and 1 newcomer and it's the most important entry in the series because it literally saved the series from being completely cancelled and the series has been extremely popular since then with the 3DS games selling very well and having a very successful mobile game. I don't think it's unwarranted to have the 2 primary protagonists, one of which was heavily requested and easily slots in as an echo, and a very easy echo in Lucina , is really unwarranted.
Anyways just my 2 cents. I don't think FE has too much representation when so many of the characters are easy to implement clones to be honest. Like yes there are 7 FE characters but 3 of those are basically Marth (Lucina, Roy, Chrom). It's not like Pokemon where hardly any of the characters are clones except Pichu. So implementing all those FE characters didn't really "take away" anything from any other series being represented.
People would be less prone to claiming over-representation if it wasn't also the case that 6-out-of-7 are swordsmen with down B counters and the 7th is a swordsman with magic.
Also, Corrin is one of the most hated Fire Emblem protagonists after Eirika, who comes after Eliwood.
Give me sami as a Snake echo and I'll be happy
Hating on Eirika is a new one to me, there is no way that more people dislike Eirika's writing than Corrin's from the way people have reacted to both.
People dislike Eirika?
I've never ever seen anybody complain about Eliwood.
The only lord I've really seen get a ton of flack outside of Awakening and Fates is Roy for his in-game stats and arguably being too plot-centric but, well, that's obviously not why people enjoy him being in Smash.
Eirika being a naïve Fire Emblem lord is unforgivable in certain people's eyes, apparently. I think Ghast reflects upon it.
Maybe they don't complain about Eliwood because they don't feel there's anything to say about him! To many, he's "the generic, idealistic lord" and thus the focus shifts to either Hector or Lyn, or both even. Eliwood's much like Lyn subject to getting screwed over when leveling up due to not standing out in the trio, and some seem to believe he's unrealistic after witnessing his father Elbert dying on him (and this is also true for Ninian, whom to his ignorance was that dragon the sword Durandal urgently wanted to slash. He gets saddened after unwillingly making her die, but in scenes afterwards the idea is he knows he cannot falter, or he'll never get to avenge his loved ones).
sooo... anyone expecting travis touchdown being revealed in tomorrow nintendies showcase?
I don't see why it'd be much different to the previous nindie showcase, just a few indie games shown off. Don't expect a smash reveal.
as much as i'd like it, i'd be surprised if he made it into the game as a trophy let alone assist trophy or playable
Or Frederi-- oh wait.

I won't tiptoe and straight up say I hate that FE has as many fighters as it does- and even if they all had unique movesets and weren't just Chrom but slightly different I still wouldn't be that happy. I think it's legit stupid that it's got nearly as much as Mario at this point and if we go with personal feelings I don't think it deserves that many. When it was Marth and Ike I was happy. I thought Robin was cool but Lucina, Roy, Corrin and Chrom could vanish and I wouldn't miss them for a second.
Like they're here. They will never not be here but it annoys me that instead of a new rep from Kirby, or Zelda or any more prolific series we just get more characters from a series that I don't personally think is nearly as famous or good.
I enjoy Fire Emblem. I've played a ton of them and made jokes in the past but I'm drowning in the characters at this point and I think it needs to either stop or cut the fat. I don't need 5 slightly different marths or whatever.
Don't believe 4chan leaks.
If they turn out real party but don't do it to yourself.
I get that might not be the case with you, but I think most people would be a lot more accepting of Fire Emblem's overabundance of reps if there were more than three out of seven that weren't simply Marth or his clones. Like, this one pic I found sums it up.

There's only four unique movesets out of all seven reps. Half of the reps who aren't Marth himself are just "more Marth". Even Ike is skirting the line by also having a Down+B counter and a charged sword attack for his Neutral-B, and now that Chrom (an otherwise full Marth clone) shares Aether, the line blurs even more.
I'm tired of FE fighters because they all look the goddamn same.

Marth and Roy were fine in Melee because it was just the two of them, and they stuck out in a good way. I get that this stuff is popular in Japan but I personally don't see the appeal in every single rep from the franchise having the same anime face, body type and hair with minor differences.
Yeah, that's another thing. A handful of blue-haired swordsmen (and Roy) as the Marth-likes, and the most different two - both appearance- and moveset-wise - are both white-haired avatars.
At least the clones don't take long to develop...
while this is true i do feel like a big factor in this is smash's current art style. a lot of the realistic proportioned humans have extremely similar faces. zero suit, palutena, shulk, even bayo would suffer from this if it wasnt for her glasses
